Downing Farms Golf Course
Played On 8/2/2013Great deal!
Decided to drive the 45 minutes from my house to Downing Farms, because $13 for 18 holes is quite the deal. Turned out to be well worth the drive, because the course was delightful. Challenging holes with scenery all around. No need to play conservatively, as the course is completely engulfed in wildlife rather than houses and parking lots. You may lose several balls through 18 holes, but if you look hard enough, you can find as many as you lost. This was a great place to play, and challenging for a beginner like myself. I will be back!
East at Maple Lane Golf Club
Played On 7/29/2013Be careful, even when driving your car near this course. (EAST)
This review only covers the EAST course, as there are two other courses on the grounds of this club.
However, the East course was somewhat dreadful. The first three holes are poorly put together, and extremely cramped. On the first hole, if you don't have a 250yd drive, then you will have to first hit an approach shot... into a flock of geese. Then, be ready to cross two unsteady bridges on foot, as well as having to bring the clubs with you that you'll need for the next two holes, since you can't take the cart on those bridges. For 3 of the next 6 holes on the front 9, I hope you don't have any pull on your drive, because you'll hit the ball into traffic. For the other 3, I hope you don't have any hook on your drive, because you'll hit the ball onto another fairway (very cramped). In fact, I would stay away from the front 9 of the East course completely.
The back 9 was much, much better.
Hampton Golf Club
Played On 7/7/2013An easy course that isn't for beginners.
I'm a new golfer (this was my 6th round), and I decided to play this course for the value. While it wasn't a difficult course, I was playing very conservatively because it is lined with houses and apartments. The greens and general surroundings could use some work, and be aware of the cart paths- I may consider walking next time because of them. The staff was extremely nice and very helpful.
The Executive Nine Hole at Bald Mountain Golf Course
Played On 7/2/2013Good for beginners, but not the best around.
I am a new golfer (this was my 5th round), and I played this course because of the value. DO NOT PLAY IF IT HAS RAINED IN THE PAST 24 HRS. A good chunk of the course was practically flooded; my shoes were completely drenched after playing the first hole, and my approach shots were all on the fairway. 7/9 holes were pretty fun to play, especially as a beginner, but in general the course could definitely use some maintenance. For the price, I would look elsewhere for 9 holes.
