Arizona Grand Resort
Played On 12/02/2016Four Courses in One
This course was interesting and fun to play. I felt this course offered four different styles. The first four or five holes had resort style to it. Holes werve close to the actual resort. Then the next four to five holes had muni style to it. Holes were surrounded by houses and condos. Then you get to back and get a target desert style of course. The I felt like the last style was like a mountain style course, with elevated tee boxes and up hill approaches to greens. For most part the course was in good condition, but there were a few spots that were dry. This course does not have a true driving range. They have some hitting mats where you hit balls into a net. The putting green is next to hole one. The carts do not have GPS, but the resort offers a free app you can download. I wish I would have downloaded it because it would have been helpful on hole layout and club selection for the holes you couldn't see the landing area or the best line to take. Pace of play was slow that day, but had fun anyways.
Monument at Troon North Golf Club

As we were checking in staff informed us that the Pinnacle course was the more challenging/difficult course compared to the Monument course, also located at Troon North. Even though I have not played the Monument course I would agree the Pinncale is the more difficult out of the two. You need to keep the ball in the green stuff or you will be hitting the ball out of the dirt, rocks or bushes. Great warm up facilities, unlimited balls to hit, putting greeen and a chipping green, which I'm starting to expect from top notch golf courses. A great desert course. The best condition course we played in Scottsdale.
Ocotillo Golf Club - White/Gold
Played On 11/30/2016Lots of Water!
This course had some type of water on 16 of 18 holes. When I watched the flyover of the holes, on their website, I was worried my ball count of balls in the water would be high. The fairways were wide and it was easy to keep the water out of play. Water only came in to play if you had a very poor tee shot or gave yourself a long approach shot, where water was guarding the green. For me there were a few holes where tee shots were target golf and some holes where I could swing for the fences. The beverage cart came frequently, like two to three times per side. The course had a decent range with unlimited golf balls to warm up with before the round. The course was in great shape. The only thing was the greens were very slow. Fun course!
