First time at Verde River will not be the last!!

Very impressed!! The facility is top shelf from start to finish. The staff was incredibly friendly, especially considering we were guests at a semi-private club. The course was fantastic in all regards - layout, design, conditioning, and scenery. This course is a little more forgiving off of the tee than say Troon or Quintero, but that maybe even added to the appeal as we did not spend much time looking for balls. We teed as a twosome at 8:30 and never saw another group all day. The greens were fantastic and the bunkers in awesome shape. This is a premium course without the premium price tag. Play it while you can before it becomes fullly Private.

Great greens and an good layout

Camelback is a course set in the valley with views of camelback mountain from most holes. The Ambiante course is a solid layout, however many holes have a sameness to them. The greens were in awesome shape, much better than the other courses I played coming out of the overseeding process. I enjoyed the course and put it in the solid second tier behind the big boys in town (Troon North, We Ko Pa, Quintero).

Solid desert track!!

I was looking for a great alternative to the top end courses with top end prices. Legends Trail fit the bill. The course design by Rees Jones was solid. Very good layout, topography, and views. If you drive it straight you can score here. If you are crooked off of the tee it is all you want.

The only difference between this course and the big boys (Troon North, Quintero and We Ko Pa) is the green speed, bunker condition and the fact that the houses all look the same and some come close to the course in places. Tee to green, it is a good test in good shape and a pleasure to play.

If you are looking for a very good course at a moderate price, it is a good choice.

Difficult but fun!

A great layout in an awesome setting. It felt like playing a round in a nature preserve. No houses, and no developments of any kind around the course distracting from the appeal of the course.

The difficulty of the course is around the greens. Many sharp edges that repeal the ball away from the greens and towards hazards and trouble. Slight mishits are really punished as a result. If one is playing well and hitting fairways and into the proper section of the green, good scores can be had. Miss a little, and you pay the price. Short and intermediate putting is fair, long putts from the wrong green section are a real challenge. It is fair off of the tee.

The greens were awesome - fast and true. Probably in the 11-11.5 range the day I played. The remaining course conditions were solid as well. Bag staff were quite friendly as were the folks in the pro shop and the starter.

A must play if you are visiting the Ft Myers / Naples area.

Mediocre from start to finish

Just a very mediocre experience all the way around. From restricted flight floating range balls off of a mat, to a very average layout, it is hard to give this course more than 3 stars. The course has 18 holes that are simply not memorable. Two days after the round it was hard to remember more than 3 or 4 of the holes given the sameness of the design. The highlight is that the greens were very quick and quite smooth. I would give the greens a solid 4.5 out of 5 rating, and the course layout a 2.

Mediocre sorry to hear that. Stoneybrook has hosted major college tournaments large junior events and Champions tour qualifiers . Sorry you did not like it.

Playable and fun

This course is a true desert layout, vs a desert - mountain course. Not a great deal of elevation change, but it was interesting and fun nonetheless. The conditions were excellent, pace of play good, and layout enjoyable. I enjoyed playing a course that was not incredibly difficult off of the tee for a change. Desert existed on both sides of most fairways, but the landing zones are a little more more giving than most in the area, and the desert areas were such that you could find a few errant tee shots. The greens were quick and true. The fairway bunkers were very challenging as they were deep and caused challenges getting the ball up over the high lips.

Overall, I enjoyed the course and layout. I put it in my top 5 in the area not because of its scenic appeal, but because it was a good track that was enjoyable to play.

Tremendous views, excellent golf

A great place to enjoy the day. With mountain views everywhere and not a home in sight, it is a great setting for a relaxing day.

Coore/Crenshaw seem to pride themelves on using the land as is with very little earth moving. The advantage is that the course looks like it has always been there. The downside is balls run from the fairways through the rough and into the desert without mounds or hills to keep your ball in play, and the sightlines off of the tee are a little more challenging.

The conditions were great, as the greens were fast and smooth. The bunkers were just ok. Not nearly as bad as the Cholla course (rocks, stones and pebbles), but they are still not stellar.

The only thing I did not care for regarding the layout was that the holes were either very short (300-320 yards par 4's) or crazy long (470-500 yard par 4's). I played the 6800 yard tees while my son played at 7,000 yards. One par three was an easy wedge at
115 yards, while another was 256 yards.

I know this is nitpicking, but I did find it a little unusual. Otherwise, a great track that is fun to play and worth a vacation round in great weather.

Awesome layout, tremendous views, substandard bankers

This is a great golf course. The scenery is stunning, with mountain views everywhere. It is the kind of course you want to play while in Arizona. The condition of the course was excellent from tee to green with the exception of the bunkers. The bunkers were hard and full of stones, pebbles and rocks. An unacceptable condition given the price you pay to play. I have heard they plan on a bunker refresh later this year, but it is too late for me. This would be an easy 5 star rating with good bunkers.

The layout is fun to play, and yet very challenging. It has a great mix of holes with tremendous variety. The greens were a joy to putt, as they were 12 - 13 on the stimp and very smooth. Have fun.

Unique course, but a real treat!!

What a fun course to play. Not sure I would choose it for my home course, but what a treat for an occasional round of golf. We caught it on a 45 degree day, but still had a great time.

The layout is truly unique and is visually intimidating. However, it is less difficult than the architect makes you think it is from the tee. It has several blind shots from the tee, several elevated greens with false fronts, and even a hidden green. However, you can shoot a score if you just relax and trust your game.

My son and I both played the tips and he shot 71 to my 74 the first time we played the course. The conditions were very good, the staff very friendly, and the day worthwhile. If you are in the area, play it. You will remember your day at Tobacco Road! A great place for a group of guys to visit on a golf trip.
