Carlton Oaks Lodge & Country Club
Played On 09/14/2017Nice surprise
We booked this 3-4 days in advance and did not know or notice the greens were going to be aerated. We were not happy when we arrived but even thought the greens were punched and sanded, they rolled well. Not bumpy just a little slow. Fairways were in really good shape and the course was fun to play. We will be back.
Salt Creek Golf Club
Played On 03/10/2017Great Greens
We have not played on such nice, challenging greens in a long time. Really fun. Firm and fast with lots of slope. Unfortunately I cannot compliment the fairways. They are so firm and so short. They slanted heavily to the right or left. The ball rolls like it would on a green so be wary. I don't know what kind of grass is on the fairways but we have never experienced them before. We recently move to San Diego from Palm Desert where the grass is lush and soft. Maybe this is winter grass on this course? We have played other courses in SD and have not played on this type of grass. It was a lovely day and very interesting views. It is worth a try but bring lots of balls. You will loose many to the rolling off the fairways into canyons and deep weeds.
A challenge for seniors and a 5 hour round
Pace was slow and turned into. 5 hour round. Fairway grass was long as was the ruff. Not sure why. The greens were in great shape and so were the fairways except they had little to no roll because of the length of the grass. Our problem at over 70 years old was pace of play and in the ruff too often. We were pooped by the time we were done. We will be back for sure because all in all we think it is a great course. Lots if hills and ups and down hills. Beautiful views, friendly staff ( although we wondered where a marshal was to speed up play) We did have someone coming around with cold water. Maybe he was the marshal. Don't know.
Escena Golf Club
Played On 08/25/2016Beautiful course, beautiful views
It is a real pleasure to play Escena. The course is challenging enough with out being intimidating. They keep the course in great shape. Summer is hard on every desert course so the few dry spots are expected. The club house and the restaurant are something to see. Mid-century modern and beautifully maintained. The restaurant competes with the top Palm Springs restaurants. Excellent!
