Rose Hill Golf Club
Played On 02/22/2018Improving
I played here several weeks ago and was not impressed...however they are doing a lot of work on the course. They have redone most of the bunkers on the front and are working on the back.....will be resodding several greens and really working on others. This is a fun, interesting course that the new management is trying very hard to put back into top shape. The staff and pro are first class...they are building their clubhouse so still in a trailer...but friendly and helpful none the less.
Hilton Head National Golf Club
Played On 01/22/2018Much improved
I played this course frequently this summer, but not in about 4 months. Stumbled on this Hot Deal and jumped on it. They course is in outstanding condition -- and was a joy to play. Greens were medium speed as they have been overseeded -- but not too slow. Ball rolled true...fairways rough were in solid winter shape. Bunkers have been improved since the summer...
This is not the hardest course -- wide fairways make driving easier...but it is a fun course and green complexes can be challenging. We had a wonderful afternoon of winter golf...with a temp of about 73.

This course is in great shape right now...the greens are fast and the fairways smooth. I try to play it every week and see the challenges in it every time out. Don't miss this one if you come to HHI.

Played On 11/01/2017Getting Better Each Week
Both courses at Palmetto Hall are improving all around. Most people do not realize how much hurricane damage they sustained...you can still see effects on the sides. However, the course itself and greens are in excellent shape -- play it back and you will have all the course you want.
Cart attendants, pro shop employees, starter and cart girl are all top notch and extremely helpful.
I play here a couple times a week and just love it.
Eagle's Pointe Golf Club
Played On 10/24/2017Improving conditions....fun course
I played here back in June and the conditions were not good...much improved under new management. Bunkers and fringe areas much improved....greens are better but still some weeds in a few. They are trying to get it up to speed.
Hot Deal makes a great buy...

Played On 09/27/2017Upgraded to 5*
I have played here a few times...loved the layout but condition were less than spectacular. They have improved dramatically -- fairways and greens are wonderful and now they have reworked most of the bunkers -- this is one challenging golf course. You had better know where your tee ball is going!
The best deal in the Hilton Head area by far.

Played On 08/21/2017Getting better and better
I have played this course at least 12 times...and it gets better each time. Greens are spectacular -- the rest of the course always has been. Bunkers are hard sand, but I don't mind that.

Played On 08/14/2017Superb Course and Conditions
I have upgraded this course to a 5 Star....it is in superb condition, the greens are smooth and roll out and the course is well manicured. The only drawback is players who do not rake bunkers. The bunkers are firm -- but I like them that way. I play a number of mid-range (price) courses in this area and this is as good as any -- and better than most.

Played On 08/07/2017Really good course
Course was in great shape. Breezed around in2 ½ hours. Outstanding layout with some hidden trouble. The greens were aerated a week ago but were very smooth and puttable. Plenty of room off the tees...a second shot golf course.
Island West Golf Club
Played On 07/28/2017Needs work
This is a good layout -- Zoeller design -- that needs work around the edges. Good fairway grass...but the rough was out of control. Very wet from recent rains, but the course does not drain well...lots of "mud." Some of that is due to the rain, but also lack of care. Lots of weeds growing in flower beds...cart paths are virtually destroyed in many, many places.
Greens were actually fairly quick and true...except in a few spots where they were burned out. Not a problem today.
Staff are friendly -- but no beverage cart or ranger.
This course gives you the impression they are on the economic edge.
Great price, though! I would recommend as a place to work on your game.

Played On 07/20/2017Good course and value
i try to play this course every week on a Hot Deal -- it is really a great value. Fairways and rough are outstanding...greens have improved every week since I moved here the first of June. Beautiful marsh scenery on holes 7-8. Staff and rangers are very accommodating...

Played On 06/09/2017Good course at great value
Played on a Hot Deal -- great value. Greens were punched but I knew that going in. Excellent layout...best be hitting the driver straight. Fairways were a little high due to 2 days of rain -- no run on the tee ball whatsoever. Played the blue tees @ 6200 -- a lot of that yardage is in 2 long par 4's and 2 long par 5's. The last par 5 -- 15 I think -- was incredibly long and tight -- large trees eliminate the left side approach.
Good challenge...lots of fun.
Lakewood National Golf Club - Commander Course
Played On 05/27/2017New Course...needs some changes
This is a very challenging course...wide open on the front but much narrower on the back. 14 good holes...but 10 and 11 need reworking. No place to drive the ball into the prevailing wind. Greens have numerous dead elephants -- be prepared to be creative in your chipping and putting. A couple other holes seemed to be overly "tricked" up...
All in all a challenging day of golf -- a course that you need to play several times to see exactly how to play it.

The more I play this course, the more I realize how difficult it is -- and respect it. The fairway bunkering is right where your driver wants to go! You have to hit 3 wood or lay up in some way. Lots of fun...fairways and greens are fine...these folks need rain!!!
Heritage Harbour Golf Club
Played On 04/21/2017Good course...great value
Played this course back in January...amazed at how much it has dried out in the ongoing drought. The fairways and greens are great...watered well. The greens were a little slow but not as slow as in January. Course not for big hitters but for those who can hit it straight. If you can accept that the fringe areas are either dead or dying -- and that the fairways are very firm...you will have a good day.
The value is incredible...20.00 for green fees and cart? Unbelievable....
The Highlands Golf Course
Played On 04/18/2017Good course...needs rain.
Sarasota is having a drought -- and the course showed it. All the ponds were extremely low...the fairways and greens were good but the rough was nonexistent. The greens were slow -- about 8 or so -- or I would have given it a 5 star rating. Bunkers, etc., were in excellent condition...raked and smooth.
It is not the longest course...we played it from the blues -- about 6400 yds. Lots of well placed bunkers and doglegs make it play longer.
Would love to play this course with faster greens...
Waterlefe Golf & River Club
Played On 04/13/2017Wonderful Course
I had never heard of this course, but found it on Golf Now as highly rated. It was outstanding...greens were smooth and running at 9 they said. The fairways were perfect...rough was nonexistent as they have had a drought. Attendants (Jeff and Kevin) were superb and very helpful...cautioned me to hit less than driver if I could -- which I did. They were right...can be tight in places...but driver is not needed if you can hit a 3 or 5 wood 225 or more. (I played the black tees -- about 6300 yards.
I played as a single, hit 2-3 balls into each hole and took my time behind a 3 some and 4 some. Still played in less than 4 hours and was very pleased. I will definitely be back...

Course is in great shape and is challenging. Links style but with good fairway bunkering that presents a challenge. Greens are well bunkered and sloped. My only complaint was that the greens were slow...had not been mowed that day. They were at most a seven. On the whole a positive experience. Will go again.
IMG Academy Golf Club
Played On 04/17/2015Wonderful course
I found the course in great shape, greens were running at least 10 on the stimpmeter; fairways were solid, not much rough yet and the bunkers were all good -- full and raked. Course has plenty of tees and is well laid out. Wide fairways, but bunkered so as to challenge. I will play again when in this area.
