I wish I could give more than 5 stars in the “Value for the Money” category. It is such a beautiful, interesting, and well kept course. It’s so good that it’s becoming my new home course in spite of being 45 minutes away. The greens are always in excellent condition and they are as challenging as it gets around here. If you haven’t played Royal Hylands you really won’t regret the drive.

Excellent condition and beautiful scenery. The service at the pro shop and starter shack is top notch. The layout is a little bland as to be expected with a resort course but make no mistake, it's harder than it looks. No rough seems like a bonus but it also means there's nothing to stop your ball if you're a little offline. You're either taking a penalty for water or palmetto. I would recommend leaving your driver in the bag on most par 4's. The elevated greens are tough to stick and tight bermuda uphill chips are not easy. I played here twice during my vacation in SW Florida and really enjoyed it both times. Definitely worth a visit.

The only downside is they never seem to keep an eye on pace of play. There was a foursome backing up the whole course. Otherwise, beautiful course, challenging layout, always in great condition. I'd love if they put in new tees somewhere between the whites and blues. Big jump from 5900 to 6600. Tees that play around 6300 would be ideal. Anyway, this is easily one of the best in town. Even when it's a slow round I still really enjoy my time there. I love the difference in course style between the front and back. Links/prairie style layout is boring for an entire 18, same for woodland style, this one has both.

It's about 25 minutes outside of St. Louis but worth the drive. Very memorable layout. Conditions are okay. It looks well manicured but the greens are incredibly slow. The rough is so easy to lose a ball in. Rangers do a good job of keeping pace up. Would play again.

8 minutes after teeing off on the first hole, the starter approached me and said "we need you to play in 4 hours or less." We were all on the green by this point. I explained that we were playing at a good pace, but he argued that we had been on the hole too long. We finished the opening par 4 in 10 minutes with a foursome. That is a solid pace according to anyone. Your employees should be more hospitable, especially to make up for your dirt traps and crab grass infested rough.

As advertised on every review source, pace of play here is pretty awful. Otherwise decent layout, pretty good condition, enjoyable course for sure. Greens are very true to Pete Dye style. Even someone with a solid short game (unlike me) will have a tough time around and on the greens. I would go back for sure, you just have to manage your expectations and prepare for a 4.5 - 5 hour round. The price is certainly fair for what you get.

Love this course. Tee boxes, fairways, and greens are in excellent condition. The greens were the fastest I've played. Layout is very fun with many memorable holes. This one is worth the money even when paying peak-time fees. A must play.

Fun layout, excellent condition, friendly staff. This is not a very talked about course but it should be. Some of the fairways were being revamped on the front 9 but they rerouted some holes around it and you can't blame a course for making improvements. I can't wait to go back when it's all complete.
Hickory Bend Golf Course
Played On 03/24/2017A 9 hole course not targeted at avid golfers. No real fairways or man made hazards. With the exception of green placement I wouldn't say this course was "designed". You will find yourself hitting off dirt or sparse grass off the fairways sometimes. Consistently uneven tee boxes. Super slow greens. Always wide open so a great place for practice.
