Greens with the undulations, were extremely challenging when putting down hill, with the wind & grain. However, they ran pretty true so no complaints!
Rancho Park Golf Course
Played On 10/25/2015Long time between rounds....
First time back to play Rancho in 20 years....did not remember how hilly it was but I will remember how unfriendly it is to walk. There are no mown areas to walk from the tee box to the fairway, which means you will have some heavy pushing to do if you play from the back tee boxes and use a cart.
Course is in good shape for a muni and the greens play reasonably fast, considering where the pin placements were located when I played.
We were a twosome and got stuck behind a 3-some who would not push the 4-some in from of them. The 3-some let us through and the 4-some got the message. We played the front in 2.75 hours and the back in 2 hours after being let through.
I'd play it again, but riding this time!!
Westchester Golf Course

Easy course and you only need driver on a couple of holes. Be careful of wayward shots from other groups because the course is crammed into a small area and the people that play here are weekend warriors at best.
West Fork Golf & Country Club
Played On 9/02/2013More resort target golf than Links.
The course has recently been sold so it appears there might be a period of transition. The greens are fairly consistent but there is an infestation of a crab grass type weed on many of the greens, which can be challenging to putt through. Take water because there is little on the course and we saw the cart girl once. Pace of play was reasonable until we caught up with a twosome who had caught up with another twosome on 14 and they were dreadfully slow. Slow because they would tee off, clean and and put their clubs bag in the bag and then sit in the cart for five minutes. On 18, one guy actually walked from his cart to wedge on to the green, then walked back to replace the wedge and grab his putter. Not the courses fault, but we saw no marshals around - having at least one roving around would at least give everyone the idea that play needs to be relatively sprightly.
Houston National Golf Club

Starter very friendly and got myself as a single and the two guys I was paired with off to a good start. The members look like they run things as they like.
Texas National Golf Club
Played On 7/13/2013Short, tree lined, accuracy required, small greens
Don't be fooled by the short yardage on the score card - try and leave 100 yards for a full shot in as green-side is not all that for chipping. #15 has very hard fairways - I planned for the 100 yard approach but my five wood travelled 265 yards - it is usually only a 215 yard club for me.
