The 500 Club
Played On 08/13/2021Great little course
From tee to green, this course was in great shape! The course is well-manicured and there were no blemishes to note on the greens. The course is not terribly difficult, but they do have fairway bunkers throughout so landing it in the fairway is a priority. Lots of elevation changes.
My only recommendations for improvement are for off the course amenities. The restaurant is closed between 3pm-5pm. We made the turn at 3:30 and were starving! There's not much of a selection in the pro shop either. They don't even have gatorade; just sodas. Oh, and there's no driving range to speak of. Well, there is one but it's hitting wedges off carpet. Don't bother. There is a putting green, though. Overall, it's a great little course and a good deal on the wallet! I will definitely be going back!
Quaker Creek Golf Course
Played On 10/09/2020Not bad...not great either
Quaker Creek is a pretty wide open course that's in decent but not great conditions. I would say that it's good for any of these situations: playing with your kids, a casual round, you don't care too much about the green conditions, you don't want to spend too much, or you want to swing away so accuracy isn't really required off the tee.
Quaker Creek Golf Course
Played On 08/21/2020Not a bad little country course
My review is consistent with the others. Pros... price and the course is in good shape from the tees through the fairways. Once you get around the greens, that's where the course is lacking. The bunkers are full of swarming hornets and are not being kept up. The greens are really slow, full of pitch marks, and a few are suffering from bald spots and weeds. The course is wide open so good for players who have trouble keeping it straight. Clubhouse is a trailer so nothing fancybbmy review might sound negative but I'll say this ..the course is in the middle of the country. But it's better than what you might expect. It's not just a cow pasture with 18 holes. It's a decent course. The rough is not talk but it's thick so it can be penalizing. I got it on a hot deal so it was worth the price. Oh, and as others have stated they don't seem to be taking covid very seriously. And if you all want your own cart they charge extra.

The course is in great shape. Faom tee to green, the course is well manicured. Greens rolled beautifully and were quick. Course layout is nice with turns and elevation changes. I like that they offer green tees...a mix of white and blue for those who want to play more than 6,000 yards but less than 6,500. Staff was incredibly friendly and helpful with tips to play a few holes as this was my first time. But won't be my last! An hiur+ drive for me but I will be returning regularly!

The course was in great shape! I played poorly but that had nothing to do with the course. From tee to green, the conditions were well above average.
Lions Municipal Golf Course
Played On 06/07/2017typical muni
I was excited to play the course based on the recent reviews but was disappointed for many reasons. First, it's a short course...6,000 yds from the tips so you're not going to play through your bag. I should've done my research before booking. Second, the greens were in bad shape. They were super slow and bumpy. I'm not sure when they were last mowed or rolled. They were bumpy overall and then because of the heavy public traffic, there were lots of unrepaired ball marks on every single green. Third, pace of play was slow for my liking especially since it's such a short course. On a mid-day Wednesday, it took about 4.5 hours to play which might be acceptable on a longer course on a weekend but I thought it was too long. We were a foursome and had to wait on every shot.
On the positive side, the fairways were in good shape. Although it's short, it's kind of narrow so it's not super easy. The rangers and drink cart made regular rounds so that was nice (although I wish the ranger would have sped up the pace a bit).
In summary, it's a typical muni course. Don't be fooled by the high marks on this site. If you're comparing it to other courses, you'll find much better places to play.
Hill Country Golf Club - Lakes/Creeks
Played On 07/07/2016Great Conditions But...
This course is always in great shape. From tee boxes to greens, it is difficult to find a better manicured course in the area. However, it does have a few flaws. The biggest is the layout of the course. While there are 27 pristine holes, quite honestly, it feels like there was only enough acreage for mabye 20. Most of the holes play very short so you cannot hit driver on several par 4s and even some par 5s. Because of the lack of acreage, they've had to gimmick up the course. There are trees that block greens and even fairways, a very short par-5 that is in the shape of a horse-shoe (as well as a very short U-shaped par 4), etc. You can easily get around this course hitting irons off the tees, which is a real shame because as I said, the conditions are great. The practice facilities are excellent but they charge $20 if you want to use any part of it. That's right, $20 just to putt. The clubhouse staff is helpful but I wouldn't exactly say friendly. The guys who run the carts and the girls who drive the drink carts are always friendly. Based on all of that, then lastly, I think they're over-priced. You can find a course with similar conditions and a better layout for a much better price (see Canyon Springs and others). Hope this helps!
Hi "GabsDad" Thank you for your feedback as this is how we continue to improve our operation and experience for our guests. I am glad hear your positive comments on the conditioning of the course and the service of the staff. I am sorry you did not like the layout of the course. Unfortunately, this is out of our control and we strive to have the best manicured course and provide the best service possible, thus providing an overall positive golfing experience. We hope that you will give us another try in the near future. Thanks Mgt

Okay, I know this course gets high marks by a lot of folks but I have to think that's because they played the course when it was at its worst back in the 2012-2014 time prior to shutting down. It was a total wasteland back then. So to see how it is now, it is markedly improved. However, it is nowhere near a 4 star course. The course is still completely dried out. The ball bounces and bounds forever (which I know a lot of folks like!), but it also bounds and bounces off of greens. Speaking of the greens...the course has not fully grown in yet so while the greens look nice from a distance, once you are on them, you can see just how thin the grass is on the greens. This would be a good course for beginners/high handicappers. They've cleared out plenty of the trees and brush so it's wide open. But because of high handicappers playing there, the pace can be painfully slow at times. The staff is incredibly friendly and work hard to earn your business. That's a big bonus for me! The practice facilities are decent. Because it's so dry, they've had a hard time maintaining green grass on the range. They lost the original putting green so they put in a make-shift green off to the side. It's dry and hard and on an incline so it's not great. A for effort but C for effectiveness. I feel bad writing this review because the folks over there are so nice but I want you to have a proper perspective of what you're getting. Hope this helps!

Played On 04/22/2016Good but not great
The course is in much better shape than it used to be...but there was nowhere to go but up considering the miserable conditions before. That being said, it's not as great as everyone says. I think their reviews are based on the improvements that have been made rather than an objective, memory-free experience. The layout is nice but the grass still needs to grow in quite a bit. It is thin pretty much throughout the course, including the greens. Please don't get me wrong...it is vastly better than before. So before it would have been 0 stars; now it's 2.5 in my book.
Thanks for your review and feedback about your time at the course! We are always working on improving the conditions, like you said, no where to go but up! Hope to see you again.
Alsatian Golf Club
Played On 12/17/2013Nice for a public course
I play Alsation fairly often for two reasons...it is close and it is inexpensive. The course is wide open and short. It is fun to play because there is a driveable par 4 and the par 5s are mostly reachable. It is a good place to work on your game. If you drive the ball well, you will have nothing but short irons to the greens. You can actually score well by simply driving the ball well. The greens are typically fast which I like. Some of the negatives: because it's a public course in a rural area, it has its locals who play in fivesomes or even sixsomes, which of course means a slow round. If you play here, be patient! Another oddity...the clubhouse is after the 10 green not 9. Not really a problem, just strange. I chose to recommend this course but it really depends on what you want. If you want short and fun, this is it. If you want a challenge, play somewhere else.
Canyon Springs Golf Club
Played On 11/01/2013A Must Play
Awesome course if you want excellent conditions and a real challenge. Beautiful layout, elevation changes, and you will use every club in your bag. Greens are very quick so you want to stay below the hole! Very unique holes and narrow enough that even the shorter holes are a challenge. LOVE THIS COURSE! The only downside I can think of is you cannot hit driver off the first tee.
Thanks, Brandon. Unfortunately, I am just visiting Austin so it was my first & only golf experience here. And you're probably right, I could see how I might appreciate it more if I lived here and played other courses in the area. I could then see Lion's as being a nice change of pace. Thanks!
Muny's conditions tend to be better in the spring than the summer and yeah, it's one of the busiest courses in Texas, particularly this time of year, so pace can get backed up. Nothing about your review surprises me besides the comment that you "can't go through your bag." One of the things I like most about Muny is all the decisions you can make on every tee. You could hit zero drivers or 10 on any given day depending on wind and strategy. Anyways, it's a course that grew on me after a few rounds, so I hope you can give it another try sometime.
