Needs some work

The traps are generally terrible. Coming through on the back nine after 2:30 pm, there wasn't a trap that didn't have wet sand in them. Couldn't play them as true sandshots because there wasn't enough dry sand go blast them out. Ended up "picking" the ball out of the sand like a pitch shot.

The course (fairways and greens) looks beautiful and plays great

Fairways and greens are beautifully green and in good shape. Putting a little slow, probably because still in after over-seeding mode, but a reasonable speed. The greens seem to receive shots quite nicely.

So I have reviewed this course before, and the worst part of the course conditions are the traps. Hard dried out sand (dirt mixture?). So, don't hit into them, LOL.
Quite often, the ball is sitting up on the top of the sand, so I just do a chipping stroke to get the ball out.

The layout is fairly simple with a lot of up and back holes. If you don't hit it straight you may find yourself in desert conditions, but almost all holes have enough short rough so that you hit the ball just fine without worrying about damaging your club.

There are about 3 holes with water to challenge you that way, and the white tees play at about 6200 yards, There is only 1 par 3 that is long at almost 200 yards - the three other par 3's are middle irons off the tee box. They have 2 sets of combo tees, easily marked on the scorecard, so you should be able to find the right set of tees for your ability/length.

I like the course for play-ability and moderate price.

The course has fabulous practice areas with a driving range, large putting green, chipping areas and greens, and practice sand. Come early so you can take advantage of those areas.

Course is in good shape

The course has been in good shape all this year (Oct - Apr).
Other people have mentioned that the greens are hard and hard to control roll out. They seem ok to me, but I find very few ball marks so maybe they are slightly hard.
The fairways and greens are in good shape.
One thing I noticed today when I played is the infiltration of poa annua on the greens because of the more recent hot weather. Much worse on the front nine than on the back nine. I worry about it, because the greens at Mountain View were completely saturated with the poa about two years ago, and have been pretty much unplayable since. I hope they solve this poa problem.
Today's round was about 3:50 and was a delight with very little waiting during the round.

Wow, first time playing and I loved it

I love the 3 nines concept. I had a nine out in the trees and then a very open (newer?) concept nine. Greens and fairways were in excellent condition. The water ponds gave just enough challenge that it made you think about club selection to try and navigate them.

The course is in great shape

Been playing here all winter and the course is in excellent shape.
Every once in a while we have a slow round (4.5 to 4.75 hours) but today's round was right at 4 hours.

5 hour round, and cart path only

I understand “cart path only” because of the recent drenching rains but the combination of that and 7/8 minute starting times created a really slow round, 4 hours and 55 minutes.
Grrr.
I’m going to say what I always say when a round,is that slow - the course that just takes your money and then puts out a new group every 7/8 minutes, and without any marshaling to try and help speed, things along has poor course management, and doesn’t deserve to be given any praise. And, no beverage cart!

Super terribly slow round

5 hour round. Boo!
I hate courses that gladly accept your money but do not reciprocate with marshals.
“We have a lot of people on the course today so it’s going to be a slow round.”
Well, if you know you are having a record day in tee times, why not spend an extra buck or two in helping to speed up play a little?
I think courses owe this to their patrons.

Terribly slow

Got to laugh - the starter said that the course should be played in 4 hours - and then we proceeded to never see a Marshall to enforce that. We played in 4hours, 40 minutes. The main problem was that the course has 6 par threes. On every par three we had to wait. There were 3 groups on each par three. Bad design.

Best shape I have ever seen here

Excellent shape. I've been playing this course off and on for 6 years now, and I think it is in the best shape I have ever seen. The groundskeepers are really doing their jobs.

Fun course

The greens and fairways are in great shape - the course must have been fertilized recently. It’s a good layout with 2 par threes being over water to hit the green and the 4 par fives being quite accessible to hit in regulation for a senior golfer. It has 3 tees and 2 combos so you have 5 sets of tees to choose from. The greens are medium size and reasonable in shape and slope to putt.
Staff personnel are really friendly and the “cart lady”is super.
Now, the bad - there is plenty of space left and right of the fairway to keep your ball in play, but a large portion of the course is not grass or properly watered and therefore dirt and rocks. Unless you play “casual golf”and move your ball off the dirt and rocks, your, score and your clubs are going to take a hit.
The sand traps seem to be some sort of dirt mixture, and are not fluffy sand. All traps were machine raked, but because of the heat, and wind, were very and if you wanted you could “pick” them.
Overall, I think it is a decent muni golf course and the prices they charge for a round and cart are about the best around, example Golf Now has hot deals at $25 a lot of the time.

Greens are infested with poa annua

I heard they had a work party to have members try to remove the poa on the greens. I would say that only 10%was removed.
Terrible greens, and these greens were rebuilt just 2 years ago. Very sad because it is a nice layout. I'm not going back until I hear that they have solved this problem.

Have loved this course, and will try one more time. However, if greens are still in bad shape, that will be it for now.

Pretty run down muni course. Better get a good money value to play, or you will not enjoy it too much

Good layout for a muni course, but basic out and back and side by side fairways., so watch out for errant shots.

About half the greens are pretty rough, and you can't count on the ball holding its line.

I have no idea what they are achieving with the roped off areas near the greens --- I guess the soil/grass was pretty wet there, but they would be better off to have a clearly defined white line or markers to keep you from driving up near the greens.

The course really needs some protective chain link fences near about 3 tee boxes that are near the previous green.

Greens are very well trapped, but the sand/dirt mixture is not too good - a lot of hardpan in the low spots, one inch down. Grrrr.

I liked the basic layout and can see why in the old days the Tucson Open was played here. Dumpy old clubhouse, but functional. There seems to be a trap on the left and right (frontside) of every green. Small greens usually slope back to front. You can cut some of the dog legs for easy wedge shots.. Fairways hard and roll for extra yardage. Two long par threes.

When I went to the range to hit balls, there were no ball baskets - had to go out to the range and find one. I used that time to pick up all the empty baskets....all ten of them.

Gone downhill a little

I played this course in November and December and it seemed fine. This time the maintenance had gone down hill. The tee boxes on the back nine had not been mowed (?), and the traps were hard sand and hadn't been raked. If you got in them you had hard crusty sand. Seems like the grass was more sparse in places. The greens looked dry and hard.

Mountain View is a good course/value

A good choice of tee boxes for all abilities.
Greens had been sanded but played pretty true.
A few funky holes, but that makes for good variety. There are a few drivable par fours if you can hit the driver 290+ off the second tee box down (Purple, 6400 yards)
The round took 4.25 hours so the pace of play was certainly decent.
No marshalling that I could see.
I don't believe there was any "cart lady" the whole round but I bring my own snacks and water so that was not a problem. There are bathroom facilities mid-way on each nine, as well as the club house. (But hole 9/10 does not "return" you to the clubhouse.....)
Abundant wild life around the course to see; road runners, rabbits, and deer.

Good variety of holes. Over-seeded conditions but that will change.

Well, we played slower than usual because it was cart paths only, but the course was relatively open after teeing off at 12:51 and having the group ahead of us let us play through. The course is so open in its layout that we never saw the groups behind us.

I like this course because it has a great variety of holes, and not a lot of homes lining the course. The back nine has great views of the mountains and desert.

The greens were really slow because of the over-seeded conditions but I have played this course when the greens are just perfect for speed.
