same as before
green mostly very nice and receptive
fairways going dormant for winter but nice condition

worth the drive, especially for money.

Westfields Golf Club
Played On 05/10/2020Conditions could be a touch better
generally Westfields was perfectly fine today.
Rough could stand attention
Greens seems a bit dry, especially considering the wet spring we have had. This had them rolling blazing fast.
Otherwise the course was most enjoyable and played as one would expect. Fair yet challenging.
Musket Ridge Golf Club
Played On 06/17/2017A must play!!!
At just over an hour from Northern Va, it was worth the drive.
Plan your trip for after 2 on a weekend to take advantage of the $60.00 Twilight Rates and this course will not disappoint.
Grass Tee practice range with free balls and short game green.
This course is near perfect in condition and will provide not only ample challenge but great visual vistas as well.
Do yourself a favor, play this course.
Pleasant Valley Golf Club
Played On 02/25/2017Work to be done
Bunkers are amazingly inconsistent from hole to hole. These inconsistencies range from different sand types, amount of sand and basic dressing of each bunker. They also contain large and dangerous rocks, some the size of bird eggs.
Otherwise, this course was in reasonable winter condition.
P.B. Dye Golf Club
Played On 02/11/2017Work to be done
Generally, this course was fine with only two exceptions.
Greens and bunkers:
Greens were airated and sanded which, normally, is something we all deal with. The greens here however, were near bare in most areas. Overall, they were just ugly, even for winter conditions. Especially during such a warm winter.
Bunkers, again, just not what I expected from PB Dye. The bunkers were poorly maintained with numerous weeds clumps, washouts and debris.
Otherwise this course was fun to play and I still recommend to those who haven't played here.
Montclair Country Club
Played On 12/27/2016Course is rough but playable
Nice to play this course a second time and know its quirks.
Shot making a must due to blind angles, elevation extremes, short holes to set up approach shots and unjulated fairways and greens.
Course is rough due to poor up keep compounded by winter conditions but is easily playable if the player isnt a picky player needing ideal conditions.
This is a challenging short course that is harder than the card indicates and will provide an array of shots not always pulled from the bag on longer flatter courses. A nice course to work on distance control and putting.
Currently open to the public, recommend playing it before they go back to full private, if the do.

Played On 12/26/2016Work to be done!
Course quality dropping year to year.
Greens as hard as rock with little to no give. Land front and expect big rolls.
Bunkers inconsistent throughout the entire course.
Fairways and rough generally okay in most areas, but expect many really soft wet areas as well as patch clumpy grass around greens.
Tee boxes generally mixed quality and show lots of hard use.
Otherwise course plays as it normally does, medium challenge but fun.
Lake Presidential Golf Club
Played On 11/05/2016The should pay people to play their course!!
A free winter round isnt worth the cost of a round.
Generally this course should be a voided until sych time as they can repair all aspects of the course, from the tees to greens and everything in between.
Suffering the worst conditions of any course i have played throught the DC metro area in years, coupled with cart path only made this course a miserable outing.
Hopefully the figure out how not to ruin it again and blame it on harsh summer weather. Until then i will not return, not even to use the free winter round.
Laurel Hill Golf Club
Played On 10/16/2016Not worth a Hungy
All in all, this course is typically more forgiving to the player that needs room left and right. Greens often run fast to very fast and are reasonably well maintained but show use. Green side areas are to be expected, fairways are good, not exceptional, and tee boxes aren't worth mentioning.
The course is a mix of short and long P4's, the same for P3's and typical P5's all with a smattering of elevation changes. Nothing truly amazing unless your a BIG hitter and can reach the P4 #7 from the tee.
For a weekend end prime time rate of $99.00 this course is hardly a good deal unless all you want is a course you have never played before.
Recommend off hours and off season play.
Cannon Ridge Golf Club
Played On 09/19/2016Hoping it continues!
I missed my opportunity to play here before it closed four years ago so I was happily surprised when it showed up on golfnow.
I decided to brave 95 and take a peek even on a rainy Monday.
Once there, based on how green the course looked, the multiple mentions from staff that no matter what, it will not be cart path only (bermuda fairways), I opted to play. I was not disappointed.
Fairways were green and mostly healthy throughout.
Greens likewise were nice with only two needing minor attention.
Rough is mostly scruffy, but in all fairness this course was down for 3 plus years. That, and the fairways are wide so playing from the rough was infrequent.
I never hit a bunker, thankfully... but the managemnt acknowledges they are poor right now and are beginning to address them (their website clearly warns players of this).
I had a typical rainy round playing alone and the course all to myself. It was fun snd yes, wet.
The course may be open, but it still demands good tee shots, solid approach shots or 2nd shot on the 5's with rolling terrain and eye for the read on putts. The greens look benign, but they have soft undulations that make putting just a bit trickier on an otherwise fair course.
I will be back, soon!
Highly recommend!
Lee's Hill Golf Club
Played On 09/17/2016Generally in good shape
Course is still in the late season dressing stage, especially the back nine. This and the dry summer has taken a small toll, but otherwise the course was very playable and mostly green from tee to greens.
Rough was mostly dry and very thick to the point of being severly penalizing. That is, IF you could locate your ball. Even a yard off the fairway the balls would settle down into the rough and unless your standing on it, was very difficult to see, let alone get a club on it.
Bunkers are a bit rocky but the two I found were playable.
If this course was closer to home i would play it more. It provides an array of lengths to work on various shots, the greens are pretty good with plenty of options for pin placements and the rough places a premium on hitting fairways.
Recommended.
Prince William Golf Club
Played On 08/13/2016Green reading a must!!
As with most muni's, traps need upgrading!!
This rather short course, 6300 from the tips, is slightly hinky but provides adequate challenge to for most players and offers opportunity to shoot low scores.
Today, as with most days here, the greens were hard as concrete and slick as greased ice. Even under different conditions, the greens here require speed control, break management and above all, patience.
A course worth the reasonable rates they are asking.
Recommended!!
Old Hickory Golf Club
Played On 07/23/2016Work to be done
Bunkers filled with 2nd rate play box sand mixed with pea sized pebbles diminishes what is otherwise a reasonably well maintained course. 9th hole green damaged by what appears to be spilled lawnmower fuel was an eyesore and affected putting (needs to be addressed).
Generally Old Hickory is and was worth the time, money ($44 hot deal) and bunkers.
Classic course layout makes play more enjoyable than some of the other hinkier local tracts.
Recommended and will continue to visit Old Hickory on a regular basis.
South Riding Golf Club
Played On 04/30/2016Work to be done
The course was acceptable with some needed maintenance especially greenside bunkers, run up areas and skirt areas, otherwise worth the money ,will be back.
Forest Greens Golf Club
Played On 04/11/2016Ugly Conditions
Generally FG's was in terrible overall condition. Fairways appeared dormant and yet lacked even a hint of base grass. Fairway shot were off dirt. Tee boxes were average at best. Bunkers played were rock filled dirt messes as were the ones just viewed in passing. Greens are second rate, uneven and poorly maintained.
Grass tee driving range mats only, was disappointing.
Pass was slow slow slow!
Will avoid this course for a while.
Grass range is now open for the season and the course has greened up. Because of our turf type, we need prolonged stretches of warm days and nights to get the grass going. We are green, healthy and now look like other courses in the area. Come see for your self and let us know how what you think.
The Gauntlet Golf Club
Played On 11/07/2015Fall Weather and leaves!
Cold with light sprinkles did not effect round. Fairway dormant but full, tees needed cutting and greens needed blowing. For a Sat morning, this should have been done. Otherwise the course played as expected and price was excellent with a -72% hot deal.
Always a nice round with multiple lake view holes and plenty of challenge.
Augustine Golf Club
Played On 09/12/2015good course at a discount
Taking advantage of discounted rates makes this course even more enjoyable.
Overall, course was in good condition with lush greens and think rough. Played front in heavy rain and was impressed with how well the course handled the water.
Always enjoy playing here and will return in the near future.
Swan Point Yacht & Country Club
Played On 07/19/2015Worth the drive!!
First visit to the course and was not disappointed.
Overall the course was in pretty good shape. A few greens were burned and bare in spots only, but otherwise no complaints. Players at this course seem to take pride in their course and repair ball marks and divots, this is a real plus. The scenery is unmatched for beauty, especially on the back 9. Had the good fortune to see and photograph a juvenile Bald Eagle (not white plumage yet) and the courses favorite Osprey.
This course plays much like the coastal course it is with an added Florida like flavor, especially in the 98 degree heat today provided.
Highly recommend playing this SoMD gem of a course!!!
Somerset Farms Golf Course
Played On 07/18/2015Short but challening!
Cost to play a Saturday morning as a walk-on can only be described and a "great deal". Worth the drive down from NoVA.
Overall this course is clearly a shorty, but don't let that dissuade you from playing here. This course provides more than enough challenge via smaller yet receptive greens, elevation changes and several interesting water/creek holes. There are also eco zones to avoid for the less than accurate hitters.
As previously mentioned by others, the tees are hard (I use plastic tees so it wasn't a real issue), and still the fairways are near perfect condition for a public course. The greens were also near perfect, moist and receptive and they rolled true. Club selection is critical for first time players off the tees on some holes, so read all the reviews and take the advice, a 3 or 5 wood could save you a few strokes.
My only real complaint would be the bunkers (especially on the front 9). There was not a pretty or well maintained bunker that I saw, though I was able to play from the rear green side trap on 11 (it was not ideal). This is really a minor criticism and if the traps are avoided, is a non-issue.
GolfBuddy reads the course backwards (front 9 as back and back 9 as front), management should inquire about this or maybe I just need to update my software??
Memorable holes: #3, #8, #9, #12, #13, #14, and #18.
The staff was amazingly friendly and informative to this first time visitor/player and I am thankful for their kindness.
This is a fun short course filled with ample challenge and the potential to be even greater with a touch on lengthening.
Worth exploring and scoring, especially for the price!!!
Blue Ridge Shadows Golf Club
Played On 06/21/2014Good all around course.
This course plays wide and forgiving from tees to green.
Rough was reasonable the few times I found my ball off the fairway.
Traps (fairway and green side) need attention.
Tees were reasonable but show signs of misuse and poor grounds keeping (just a few out of 18).
Fairways were, for the most part, in very good shape and would be even better if players would fill their divots.
Greens were very nice with very few exceptions (a few minor bare spots on only a few greens), and again, would be even better if players took the time to use a ball mark tool (even on marks they may not have created).
I played on a rainy day and other than a few soggy spots, this course was more than enjoyable.
I also require a handicapped cart flag and management was more than happy to provide one.
Terrific holes with views, especially #15 from the upper tees.
I had a good time playing the course.
Thank you for the review and the recommendation supratbo! We can't wait to have you back on the course!
