Coral Oaks Golf Course
Played On 01/10/2022just average....we'll find a better option next time
Trying to find a course with a reasonable rate is difficult this time of year. Never played this course before because it is a decent driving distance but decided to try it. Course is a little over 30 years old and within a housing development that appears to be the same age that obviously was never finished with many open lots. Its a good Arthur Hills design. Fairways were in good shape, greens were good. Tee boxes were rough in many instances with many bare spots. Cart paths have seen better days and need maintenance.. No water jugs on course. Went in the restaurant for a beer afterwards. No one else was in there and has a somewhat run down appearance with lots of carpet staining. Course has 8 minute tee times and we were told three times during the round to speed play up because the course was being "stacked up" behind us. We were a foursome playing behind a threesome and fell behind. Note....we played the front nine in 2:06 which included a five minute beverage cart stop and back nine in exactly 2;00. Ranger confirmed they have a pace of play target of 1;57 for each 9. We are all long time experienced good golfers and this was the first course ever played to be told our four hour round was too slow. We'll find another option next time.
PineCrest Country Club
Played On 06/24/2020good value
Course was in great shape but they need to get rid of the foam inserts. Balls won't even "settle" in the cup. Most just bounce off the foam and hard to tell if putts are really "made". No reason for these higher than lip inserts. Won't play again until they get back to normal golf.
Great Bear Golf Club
Played On 10/07/2017great course
Excellent designed course. All holes different. Conditions were perfect....although an earlier outing had no clue how to repair ball marks on greens. Several tee boxes to pick your distance. Greens were challenging but not difficult. We'll be back again.
Hopewell Valley Golf & Country Club
Played On 10/05/2017nice course, great value
We have played this course several times since it opened play to the public a couple years ago. Staff is always very helpful. Can get the feel somewhat of a private club although you can tell in some areas they might be struggling financially (practice range) but the course itself was in great shape.....including the greens, bunkers, tee boxes, fairway, rough. Practice range balls are also free. We stayed for burgers/beer afterwards and ate on the outside deck. Food and service were excellent and reasonably priced. Even at the normal rate of $50, the experience is a good deal. We'll continue to play as long as they continue to stay open to the public.
Mountain View Golf Course
Played On 09/29/2017nice course but overpriced
This course is one of four run by Mercer Country. Mercer East and West are much nicer courses but they are all priced the same.....thus my comment about Mountain View being overpriced. In the past it was priced under these two but this year the prices were made uniform among the courses. It is the only course in the area that adds on an extra $2 for an "advanced booking fee", which is ridiculous. If you are a local Mercer resident, it's a different story but if you are a non-county resident, there are numerous better courses in the area that are priced less than Mountainview.
Northampton Valley Country Club
Played On 08/31/2017course good shape....usually poor pace of play....indifferent attitude
Have played this course off and on for over 20 years. Stopped playing a while ago when they had an alternating 7 and 8 minute t time schedule. Started playing again a few years ago when they went back to 8 minute t times. Course is rumored to be up for sale and they are trying to maximize sales. We played on a Thursday morning.....course was not busy......maybe 40 cars in lot. Our 3some teed off mid morning and played the first 9 in 1:45.....saw no other group in front of us. As we are playing #9, we notice a 3some playing 10.....they must have been in the restaurant. As we finish 9 and approach 10 t box another 3some comes out of restaurant and tees off ahead of us. We waited on every shot thereafter. We called the pro shop and they basically did nothing. Another group behind us started to wait as well. The slow 3 some was hitting balls 50 yards and sometimes taking two shots. Mike, the manager claimed they were "on pace" and we should stop complaining. This is commonplace at this course. If you don't mind a 4:45 - 5 hour round, this is the place to go. Appears place is trying to maximize sales and anything goes. Beer is an overpriced 13.50 a pitcher. Won't be going back. Too many other good alternatives in area that have better attitudes.
Ron Jaworski's Valleybrook Country Club
Played On 08/24/2017overall good value
Our foursome traveled about 50 minutes from Bucks County on a Thursday. Have played other Jaworski courses which usually are a good value but never played Valleybrook and we got a good rate of $27 for our 12:24 tee time. We arrived at 11:30 and pro shop guy said we could tee off right away so we did without any warmup. Play was apparently light and we played the front 9 fast and without issue. As we were approaching 10 tee, two foursomes come riding up and cut ahead of us. They teed off earlier and stopped for lunch and came out for the back nine. We watched a couple shots and figured it was going to take us 3 hours to play the back. We drove back to the pro shop who offered to go out and talk to them or we could play the front nine again (wide open) and play the back later on...which we accepted. Ended up playing 27. We also ended up eating there after the round....place was busy. Beers were $2.50 and we all had burgers and sandwiches....$10. Food and service was excellent, Just by chance, Jaworski stopped in and visited the tables.....asked if we were having a good day....nice touch. The course itself is an old design....rolling hills, short, trees, and somewhat narrow fairways. A little rough around the edges but tee boxes, fairways, and greens were in very good shape. The rough was sometimes "rough" with bare spots and weeds. A $27 green fee with good food at decent prices and excellent service made it an overall good experience
Baywood Greens
Played On 05/24/2017golf great....food after, not
We have a group of 8-12 that makes this trip. Rotate some courses but always play Baywood....always a pleasure to play. We play it our last day and like to sit on the veranda for a sandwich/burger before we head home....food/prices in the past have been reasonable....not any more. We noticed a new menu this year....burger with no side is now $15. I had a grilled reuben for $12 that came with a few chips.....no pickle....no nothing. Presentation was pretty weak....especially with these price hikes. Everyone in our group was disappointed. Golf is great but we'll need to find another place to eat.
Ron Jaworski's RiverWinds Golf & Tennis Club
Played On 09/06/2014overall ok except for aeration
Usually when a course does aeration they have it posted on their website or tell you when making the reservation. Not the case here. They aerated on Tuesday (we played Saturday) and while they use the small hole aeration system, there was no mention, even when we checked in, and they were charging full rates. Fairways and tee boxes were okay but greens were not. Not cool. Otherwise course was in good shape and we played in 4:10.
Baywood Greens
Played On 06/04/2014a must play
We have been going as a large group from the Philadelphia area every Spring for the past 15 years to play four days/rounds at the Delaware/Ocean City, MD courses. We rotate among 6-7 courses but Baywood is our "must play" every year. Great course, facilities, and staff.
Eagle's Landing
Played On 06/02/2014one of our favorites
Visit the area as a group once a year for past 15 to play four days of golf. ...this is one of our favorites. First four holes are rather plain/non-descriptive but then becomes a very scenic, well-designed course....especially on back nine with all the views. It has a public course "feel' compared to most others in the area.....no driving range, and limited menu at snack bar/sitting area. But there is a public range just outside road entrance to course. Always in great shape, rangers usually move slow players along.....great marsh/water views.
