Vista Vallarta Golf Club - The Nicklaus Course
Played On 02/20/2023Worth the price
Loved this challenging course in the hills above the city of Puerto Vallarta. Well maintained. Friendly staff. This is not a course for beginners. Take a caddie with you if you are playing the Nicklaus course for the first time. At $20 USD pp it's well worth it.
Ka'anapali Kai
Played On 01/02/2018Slow pace of play
Frustrating for the etiquette-conscious golfer, despite being among Maui's more expensive courses. We were delayed on the 1st tee waiting for the other twosome who showed up late. The girlfriend in the twosome had only just started learning to golf. Despite the published dress code, the pro shop allowed her on to the course wearing cutoff jean shorts and a t-shirt. Not once did a marshall show up to tell us to speed up the pace of play, which we desparately hoped would happen. Ended up racing to finish our round before dark, and this is not a long course. Otherwise the pro shop and practice areas were well organized and staffed. We just wish that golf etiquette, specifically keeping up with the group ahead, could be more strictly enforced.
Kahili Golf Course

This course is always on our list when we visit Maui. Love the layout and condition. Can get very windy in the afternoons. Greens will challenge you. The grass bends toward the sun as it moves across the sky; huge factor when assessing break and putt speed. Don't estimate break based only on the slope of the greens.
Maui Nui Golf Club

Well maintained course on the mountainside above Kihei and Wailea, with great deals through Golfnow. Nice greens. Offers a challenge even for experienced golfers, without the high price and often slow play of many resort courses. Afternoons can get windy. Driving range with large practice area for honing your chipping, putting and sand shots.
