Mare Island Golf Club
Played On 09/07/2017Tamp down the area where you reset the holes and put sand in the traps
I play the course at least once a week. Basic course knowledge is that you should play most shots to the left, since the fairways invariably slant to the right. It's a fun course, but it's hard to score well. There are still a number of dead trees that need to be removed (notably on the first hole, where it impedes many shots). Greens are recovering from recent raking. Big gripe is that whoever digs out the new holes does not level the area around the hole. Thus, many a putt curving toward the hole makes a last-second detour in the other direction. Bunkers need sand (in a previous life at this course, Swabbies were assigned to weed the traps and level the sand). As it is now, in order to protect our clubs, we just take a non-penalized drop out of the traps. With the various promotions and special rates, this course is a good deal, but fixing the above-mentioned problems would make it more attractive each day. On weekday mornings, if you tee off about 10 or later you should have the course to yourself the rest of the day.

Played On 05/09/2017Rough needs to be squared away
I golf here every week. Although fairways and greens have come back, work needs to be done on roughs, which should be a gradation from the smooth fairways. On some holes you're already in four-inch high grass just a yard off the fairway. Even worse is the clover and fescule runners, again just off the fairway. I've been losing balls on the second and 14th holes that hit in the fairway.

Played On 04/04/2017Somethings good, some not so much
Course is a good value, with senior and club rates. Fairways and greens are looking good again. Decent shots are penalized however due to overgrown roughs and anise weeds.
Thank you Lawsonbob for the review. We are sorry to hear that the course conditions were poor. This is not the standard that we are trying to achieve and will make sure to pass this note along. Thanks for playing the course and we hope to see you again!
Delta View Golf Course
Played On 05/13/2014It was an enjoyable round
We played on a very hot day, but conditions were good. Front nine plays easier than the back nine. Matted surface on the greens makes them slow, which takes some adjustments if you're used to slick greens. Even if you don't put backspin on your chips, you should aim for the stick.
Hiddenbrooke Golf Club
Played On 03/19/2014Enjoyable course to play.
Course was in beautiful shape. Even though the greens had just been sanded, it played well. Even on the greens, you could putt with regular feeling.
Blue Rock Springs Golf Course - West
Played On 01/23/2014OK, not as tip-top as it has been
Drought has had some effect on the course although it's still decent. Biggest complaint was the greens on the West Course. They were punched some time back and are still a bit lumpy. Play midweek when we played was slow, more crowded than usual at mid-day.
Paradise Valley Golf Course
Played On 01/14/2014We had a good time
First time on the course and we found it a pleasant experience. Some challenging holes. It was a calm day, but open layout could be tougher with wind.
Mare Island Golf Club
Played On 4/23/2013A-One Shape
I've played Mare Island quite a bit in the past, but I was particularly impressed that it was in such very good shape this spring. Bunker sand is hard. Greens in good shape, but have a lot of tricky twists and turns. I'll be back.
Desert Dunes Golf Course
Played On 12/2/2012It'll Blow You Away...literally!
This course is lush with lawn (few trees) and would be enjoyable but for the high winds that sweep through from the northwest (where there are hundreds of windmills) We were almost knocked over on some tee shots into stiff breezes 30-40 mph.
Cimarron Golf Club - Boulder Course
Played On 11/30/2012Needs clear description
My friend booked this for me, not realizing it was a pitch-and-putt course. Although a nice break from the longer courses we were playing here, I probably would not have chosen it. Would rather have played the Boulder Course. Price was right, however!
Indian Palms Golf & Country Club - Indian/Mountain
Played On 11/28/2012Pretty course
You play two of the three nine-hole layouts (We got Indian and Royal, other one being Mountain). Wide open fairways for the most part, so less chance of hitting a shot on someone's roof. We found it a very pleasant place to play with good chances to score well.
Cathedral Canyon Golf Club
Played On 11/27/2012Good bargain
It was a pleasant course, easily accessible from where we were staying. Good deal for a mid-day teeoff.
Rio Vista Golf Club
Played On 11/1/2012Course is friendly on all levels. Water holes create some challenges, but maps on scorecard helped..
We had a very good time. We were a slow group, but you can generally get around this course reasonably fast.
Napa Golf Course at Kennedy Park
Played On 9/26/2012Good midweek deal
We enjoy playing the course and are generally able to tee off immediately. Only downside is that recently when our threesome tees off it is immediately followed by several singles or twosomes and it takes a while to sort it all out and let them through. Nonetheless, we always have a good time here.
Thank you lawsonbob for the four star review! We appreciate you sharing your experiences from the course. See you again very soon!
