Hollywood Beach Golf & Country Club
Played On 05/09/2018Slowest greens in S. fla.
Appeared cups hadn’t been moved in at least a day.
Good place to knock the bell around but bumpy, slow greens were a letdown.
Pace of play very good but probably due to below-average course conditions.
Hollywood Beach Golf & Country Club
Played On 02/17/2018Good old municipal course close to the beach
Once again, Hollywood delivered. The staff here are ALWAYS very pleasant and helpful and the course was in good shape despite a limited number of course maintenance employees.
This is a great old (1924) Ross course which is a test because of its small greens and strategically placed bunkers and ponds. To score well here, it’s best of you Approach shots are really important
Course aesthetics were a bit compromised as debris from several large hurricane-damaged trees have yet to be removed. Additionally, the reeds and marshes have been stripped from the ponds (probably to speed-up play) thereby causing the water hazards to lose visual character..
Pace of play on a late Saturday morning was good (4 hr. ) .
Currently, golf course has limited amenities ( no driving range/ small putting green.) Furthermore, the on-course hotel and restaurant are being demolished. They have a mobile trailer which has a limited selection of foods but who goes to the golf course to eat ?
Thank you,, Hollywood staff, for always being so accomodating,
West at Orangebrook Country Club
Played On 02/08/2018Just a place to spank some eggs
Basic average public course . Price reasonable, pace of play in early afternoon on a weekday was good.
Greens very slow..
Cart paths on-course restrooms in very bad shape and in need of repair.
Just a decent place to hit some balls , enjoy the S.Florida sun, and relax. Certainly not a country club !
Hollywood Beach Golf & Country Club
Played On 12/06/2017Great Value , very friendly staff, sneaky-tough layout,
Positives
Good pace of play ( 4 hrs. for a 4 some)
Very friendly staff
Location ( downtown Hollywood, east of US 1)
Good place to " hit the ball" and not necessarily be concerned about score
No houses / developments " on " golf course
Designer Ross sure knew how to make a 6,000 yd course challenging
Interesting wildlife
Negatives:
Bumpy greens ( not rolled recently? )
Parts of some fairways were bare
Some trees/ limbs reman from Hurricane Irma 3 mos. ago
Sand traps hard, unkempt
Palms at Pompano Beach Golf Course
Played On 03/30/2017Good municipal course
Have played Pompano several times in the past 25 years. The City retained Greg Norman et. al. to do some alterations to,the courses, esp. the Pines, about 10 years ago. Honestly, I liked the layout much more before the revisions were made...nevertheless, the course was in good condition....,the greens were incredibly slow and that was frustrating, but fairways, bunkers, tees were good.
The back 9 of the Pines is very long....as I understand it, the Pompano course(s) lost a lot of larger trees last summer in a tropical storm, but the course remains challenging.
We played on a weekday afternoon and completed the round on 4 hrs.
Because of its proximity to the Ocean, the site is usually breezier than inland courses..while the wind adds to the challenge, it makes golfing on warmer days more comfortable.
Palms at Palm-Aire Country Club
Played On 02/17/2017Mixed bag but good value
Of the 3 courses @ Palm Aire, the Palms Course is the most forgiving yet still offers challenges to this 19 handicapper. Several streams and strategically placed traps add to the challenge of this medium-length golf course.
While the greens are in very good shape and roll true, the tee boxes are badly worn and in need of maintainence. The Club should give to building some alternative tees as the existing tee boxes are small and chewed-up.
The course had not received any rain in over 2 weeks and some of the fairways and most of the rough were brown.
It is obvious that the course gets a lot of play most likely due to its central location and competitive pricing.
The pace of play was moderate ( 4 hrs. 15 min.) and the staff was friendly.
All things considered, a good value.
Pines at Woodmont Country Club
Played On 02/03/2017First impressions are deceiving
When you enter grounds, you will notice run-down tennis courts, neglected pool, cracks/ weeds in sidewalks. But the golf course itself is in fine condition. Well-cut ( but tight) fairways, above-average bunkers, and fast, true greens. The layout is challenging and has several water holes (strategically placed) and doglegs. The course has 5 sets of tees . It is above-average in difficulty, nespecially if you have not played it before.
Price wise, Woodmont is a good value . I would rate the entire experience as a "B".
Hollywood Beach Golf & Country Club
Played On 11/22/2016100 year old Ross Course in the middle of town
Don't let the length of the course deceive you....this is one tough course, especially if your chipping game is your weak link.
Small greens with severe false fronts/ fall-offs on the shorter front 9 . Water comes into play on the first 5 holes and ponds/ creek are located in strategic areas. Back 9 Is 300 yards longer than the front and has many trees but fairly generous fairways.
Pluses...courtesy and friendliness of staff
Pace of play ( at least between June-Thanksgiving)
Challenging layout
Proximity to beach
Minuses..,,condition of greens and sand traps
