Laughlin Ranch Golf Club
Played On 11/28/2019Pleasant Surprise
Had a little bit of rain and fog to start, but ended up perfect just in time to enjoy the gorgeous views on the back nine. Finished first 18 with enough time to play the front 9 again in much better conditions. Outstanding views and some fun holes. Had a great time and highly recommend this course.
San Pedro Golf Course
Played On 12/05/2018Unexpected Holiday
After receiving a holiday in the middle of the week decided to get out and play a round of golf with a buddy and grabbed a couple of Hot Deals at high noon. Arrived about 45 minutes early and staff allowed us to start about half an hour early. It was surprisingly crowded for the middle of the week, but pace of play was good. Had a little trouble with the gas powered golf carts. Had to get another one brought to us twice during the round. The course was in good shape, but as usual a little wet. Always like playing this course as it has some fun holes. The 18th got me today, but I'll be back.
San Ignacio Golf Club
Played On 01/23/2016What a Pleasant Surprise!
Playing from the tips made this course quite a challenge. Narrow fairways from the tees with some blind tee shots and lots of dog legs. Greens were hard and did not hold approach shots well and were fast with moderate undulations. Bunkers had a lot of stones and fairways seemed to leave a charcoal dust on the ball. Enjoyed the challenge, played well dropping 10 strokes, but 5 of them were penalty strokes; so keep it out of the desert. Very friendly and inviting staff. Quiet electric carts, and beautiful views.

1 1/2 hour frost delay clogged things up for most of the day, but staff did a great job of catching things up and ended up with a 4 hour 45 min round. Started on the back nine which had a lot of downhill tee shots and uphill approaches and was very scenic. Front nine was more straight forward and actually seemed to play longer. The front nine was also closer to the homes in the development which had a lot of children playing; so keep your focus with all of the screaming children in the background. Course itself was in good shape. Fairways were tight and the greens were moderately fast with plenty of slope. Be sure to choose an extra club or two with the uphill approaches. Found a few bunkers and noticed the sand to be inconsistent. Overall great time and beautiful weather. Glad I made the trip.

Played On 01/09/2016Exploring the Municipal Courses
Typical Municipal experience with a large crowd, slow play, and wide variance of skill level players. Course was in fair condition with the fairways in a somewhat dormant state and the greens at a moderate speed with some slope and unrepaired pitch marks. I used a cart because it came with my reservation, but I wish that I had walked as the course looked like a great walking course. Highlight of the day was one of my playing partners hit a hole in one on 17, but unfortunately it was for par as he dunked his first one in the pond. Reminded me of Zach Johnson's par a couple of years ago from the drop zone, only my partner choose to tee it up again from the same spot. Smart choice; the rest of us were in and around the green from the tee and all ended up with a bogey. Nice shot Larry!
Poston Butte Golf Club
Played On 12/27/2015In the middle of now where.
Course was in the middle of now where, but I am glad I made the drive. No direct route there from anywhere, but managed to find it okay. Course is set up within a community still under development and was is good shape. Greens were fast and have a lot of undulations to them, tough to read. Bunkers were strategically placed in the fairways, were deep, but needed more sand. Good mix of long and short holes, and an island green par three 17th similar to TPC Sawgrass 17th (Players Championship).

Absolutely beautiful course and will definitely come back. Plays longer than scorecard due to dog legs. Greens were fast and had a lot of undulations. Only complaint was pace of play as it took about five hours to complete the round. The benefit to the long round was having time to enjoy the views and spend more time on a great course. One of the best courses that I have played in the Valley, hands down. I cannot wait to come back and give her another try, scored okay for the first time, but will look to improve the second time around.
Raven Golf Club - Phoenix
Played On 11/27/2015Typical Valley Course
I have noticed that a lot of courses in the Valley have the large berms on each side of the fairway which tend to funnel the ball back towards the fairway (if you hit the correct side of them); and this one is no different. Fairways and greens were in good shape after the overseeding, and overall facilities were very well maintained. Pace of play was acceptable and the staff was friendly. Course layout seemed similar to its neighbor The Legacy.

Played On 11/11/2015Beautiful Veteran's Day on the Course
Nothing flashy about the course but I really liked how it blended into the community. I felt like I was playing in the back yards of the residents. There were plenty of mature trees that lined the fairways, and if I am not mistaken, out-of-bounds on every hole. This is where the challenge was as the trees and out-of-bounds really narrowed some of the fairways. Bunkers didn't have much sand in them, making it a bit more difficult to play a good shot out of them. Pace of play was a bit slow as there was a 20 minute frost delay that backed things up. I am glad that I made the trip though and do recommend the course.
The Duke at Rancho El Dorado
Played On 10/24/2015Worth the Drive
I was staying at Harrah's Ak-Chin and was looking for an alternative to Southern Dunes as it was closed for over seeding, and I found The Duke. Glad I did, nice course for probably a third of what I would of paid at Southern Dunes and didn't have to deal with the flies that seem to invade Southern Dunes. Fairways were still in the over seeding process; so the grass was a little long and the greens were a little slow, but course was in good condition and I had a great time. I will likely choose The Duke over Southern Dunes the next time I am up to play, especially now that over seeding is over. I didn't try the food at the 19th hole; so can't comment on it.

Played On 10/12/2015Quiet Holiday on the Course
Quiet Columbus Day Holiday found us with the course almost to ourselves. Tees were up; so rarely played the driver. Fairways and tee boxes needed mowing. Looks like they need to sharpen the blades on the mowers as there was a lot of grass that was just pushed over instead of cut. The 4.2 rating on GolfNow is higher than it should be. It's more in the line of 3.2 - 3.4. Nice layout with lots of potential though. Greens were just ok and have some hidden breaks to them; so check both sides of the hole before putting. Strange finishing hole with a power pole and power lines across the middle of the fairway. Course does not go back to clubhouse after nine holes, and water on course is provided with drinking fountains; so you may want to ensure you bring your own refreshments. I did not try the water though as I brought my own bottled water.
Thank you for your review. We just came out of overseeding so we need to cut down the grass slowly. Hope to see you out at the course again!

Played On 09/07/2015Good Day of Golf
Greens were soft and rolled true, but slower than usual. Surprised to see clumps of cut grass all over the course. Foursomes packed the morning tee times and slowed things down a bit, but it was a holiday weekend. Golf Boards look like fun; so I think I may try one next time.
Quarry Pines Golf Club
Played On 09/06/2015Fun little course
Heard about the course through word of mouth and so wanted to get out there and give it a try. Very unique course with lots of short holes and steep grade differences from the tee to green. Just play smart and keep the ball in play and you can score low. Fairways were in good shape, but the greens were a bit course and bumpy.
Quail Creek Golf Club - Coyote/Road Runner Course
Played On 09/05/2015Almost rained out.
Well, the light rain fell over the first nine, but not enough to slow things down. Stopped on the back and made things a bit muggy. Course was getting ready for over seeding; so fairways were scalped and dormant. I may have waited to play this one had I known that. Greens were okay and a little slow, but they rolled pretty good. Rough was thick and sticky. I will certainly come back when they have completed their over seeding and give it another shot.
Desperado/Diablo at Badlands Golf Club
Played On 08/02/2015Had fun in the "Badlands"
Had a long weekend in Vegas and looked around for some places to play. The name of the course caught my attention along with the price; so I thought I would give it a try. Glad I did, it was a fun and challenging course. Definitely worth the price of admission. Conditions were surprisingly good for the middle of a hot/dry summer. The only downfall was one of the guys I was paired up with was a club thrower. Course isn't for the faint hearted. If you can't handle the heat, stay away from Badlands.
Catalina Course at Omni Tucson National Golf Resort & Spa
Played On 11/10/2014Had the course to ourselves
I paired up with another single and we never had anyone ahead or behind us the entire round. It was a Monday, but a Monday before Veteran's Day; so I figured it would still be crowded. Had a leisurely round of golf and made a new golfing buddy.
Thank you so much for coming out to play and for the four-star review! We hope to see you again soon!
