Lone Tree Golf Club
Played On 12/10/2022Nice Course
Overall good experience with a mix of tough and easy holes. Only gripe is I have never played a course with NO yardage markers until this one . Forgot my gps watch, so it was a crapshoot on distance the whole day.
Grand Elk Golf Course
Played On 06/22/2022Nice course, POOR management!
Good: As many have noted, very nice design and condition.
Drove almost two hours to hear: Sorry, only 9 holes open due to paving contractor showing up unexpectedly.
Just a pile of BS. No first class facility disrespects their paying customers with this nonsense. When you have tee times booked for over $100 a round, you notify all customers on advance and offer a refund as an option.
Bottom line is that contractor should have been told to come at a later date. Nope, five star course with one star management.
Won't be back. Beware!
Ak-Chin Southern Dunes Golf Club
Played On 11/18/2020One of the best
First time here and the good reviews are for real.
I have played most of the best Scottsdale / Mesa courses and AK-Chin is on par with any of them.
Great design, conditions, staff is well worth the ride.
You won't be disappointed.
Mountain Brook Golf Club
Played On 11/17/2020Course condition Iffy and Mystery guests cutting in front
As I first time visitor, I had no idea what to expect. Golf course and staff were good overall. Unfortunately, some of the greens were in bad shape and a number of bunkers had either little sand or lots of rocks in them.
Just unacceptable.
Two players appeared in front of us on the first tee, to be joined later by two others (found to be employees). They were not slow but the extra bodies fit into the tee times caused a wait on every hole on the front nine. The back nine went better, but a couple of players appeared out of nowhere in front of us. Most likely members/homeowners that think they own the golf course. I work at a high end golf course and people would be fired for "squeezing" in employees in front of paying guests.
There are better options out there, so I won't be back.
Arizona National Golf Club
Played On 01/08/2019Beautiful Course
First time at AZ National and thoroughly enjoyed the course and experience. The course is very challenging and scenic with lots of elevation changes. Not the longest course but very challenging. Staff was friendly and helpful. Terrific value as you would pay at least $200 for a course of this level in Scottsdale. Only reason I did not give it five stars is the lack of sand in the bunkers.
Very thin with lots of rocks, also. It's hard to understand why everything else is excellent about this course, the bunkers are not "up to par". If you're in Tucson, this is a must play.
Quintero Golf Club
Played On 05/08/2018Great layout with a couple of issues
Played for the first time in 105 degree heat. Very well designed , challenging course that rivals most of "the Big Boys" in Scottsdale. Very scenic with nice elevation changes. Although not real tight, mistakes will be punished with lost balls. A course that you need to play a few times to have a good score.
Only real problem is that most all greens are well elevated with forced carries over bunkers. Greens were not holding most wedge shots as they were hard and fast. I love fast greens, but with the Arizona heat, they are too hard. Bring your "A'" game and enjoy. Also, staff was friendly, but the facilities are minimal as they expected a big real estate event that never happened.
Omni La Costa Resort & Spa - Legends Course
Played On 12/04/2017Good older course
Had a chance to play La Costa for the first time last week. Followed a junior tournament, so pace was great as most players were done on the course.
Nice layout with good variety of holes. Fair amount of parallel holes with few holes that would be considered memorable. Overall good condition with fast, firm greens. Some patches on greens where repairs had been made but no real problem. Staff was great and facilities are top notch. Would happily play here again but would not pay over $75 as there are more interesting courses in the area.
Only real down side is the chaos in the parking area in front of the clubhouse. This entrance area serves not only the two golf courses, but the entire hotel, function and food venues, so there are tons of cars converging on this small area at the same time. Just poor design from back in the day.
Oakcreek Country Club
Played On 01/14/2017Very Good course
Even though the weather was lousy, the course is in great shape for this time of year. Good mix of easy and hard holes with nice rolling greens.
The course ran an 11am shotgun which worked well.
Threesome played in 3.5 hours.
Despite my putting woes, a very enjoyable day at a great price.
Las Sendas Golf Club
Played On 01/13/2016very nice course
Excellent design, condition and service. This course is a terrific challenge with excellent conditions. It does require some local knowledge to score, but that's typical of most. Terrific value on GolfNow compared to most Scottsdale courses. This is a Must Play if you're in town. Lastly, be smart and play the right tees as this is one tough track.
Pendaries Golf & Country Club
Played On 08/03/2015Nice golf course
Very scenic mountain course with shot making and position very important. Played for the first time and enjoyed it except for the wet conditions due to rain and the slow greens. Reminded me of courses in Vermont and New Hampshire - true mountain courses with lots of elevation change and tight, treelined fairways. A few doglegs require precision distance off the tee as the landing areas are small. Very interesting and quite difficult for a short course.
Overall, a very good experience which is much different than the desert golf that is typical in New Mexico. It is worth the two hour ride from ABQ.
Pine at McCormick Ranch Golf Club
Played On 12/07/2014Good Course but Very SLOW
First time playing here and enjoyed the course except for playing poorly. Pace of play terrible. When you get to the second hole and wait for ten minutes you know it's going to be a long day.
Course in overall good condition with slow and WET greens. Would recommend during on a weekday only as the weekend was just a 5:15 hour cattle drive.
Ventana Canyon - Canyon Course
Played On 08/23/2014Nice olf Course
Despite playing poorly, I enjoyed the experience here.
Very well kept conditions with many challenging but fair golf holes. The only issue is the slowness of the greens. I realize that summer heat requires them to keep them a bit longer for their health, but this combined with the midday watering of the greens made them real SLOW.
Excellent summer value for a nice golf course.
A tip for first timers - you can't find the clubhouse with a guide dog as there are no signs anywhere.
The clubhouse is behind the Flying V Restaurant.
Enjoy !
The Club at Starr Pass - Rattler/Coyote
Played On 08/22/2014Excellent Course
Mid Summer can be tricky in the Tuscon heat for conditions, but Starr Pass was in excellent shape. Greens are a bit slow, but that is necessary to keep them in the heat. Terrific challenge with nice variety of holes. Also, great value in the summer as this course is big bucks in the prime winter season.
Go play it now and enjoy !
Pinon Hills Golf Course
Played On 08/07/2014Worth the Ride !
Played twice this past week and was impressed by the course design, conditions and the overall experience. A very challenging course in excellent condition.
You will need your A game (which I could not find) and enjoy the great value from Golfnow.
SunRidge Canyon Golf Club
Played On 06/28/2014Fun golf course
Fun course on a hot summer day. First time for me and found the course to be fair and challenging. I played the white tees and the course is very playable from these tees. Yes, the wicked six are tough holes that are up the hill and into the wind but are very manageable for mid level players and above.
Course is in great shape. Staff and cart girl were smiling and provide good service.
Highlight of day was one of our group had an ace on number 17. Good fun!
The Phoenician Golf Club
Played On 06/27/2014Always good at The Phoenician
Canyon nine in great shape. Oasis nine has some brown spots on greens, but they rolled ok. Maybe some kind of summer issue. Desert nine was closed for the day.
Always enjoyable at The Phoenician.
Mt. Woodson Golf Club
Played On 05/16/2014Nice find east of San Diego
A short, but challenging course in the mountains east of San Diego. Lots of fun and unusual holes with a premium on accuracy. Played with a couple of locals who were very helpful. As a first timer here, it was a fun experience. Well worth the ride and an excellent value for the area.
The Crossings At Carlsbad
Played On 05/14/2014Unusual in a Good way
Very interesting course built into valleys/canyons, so many elevation challenges. Played with two other first timers, so it was very tricky gauging distances with the terrain and wind even though there is a nice gps system on the cart. Very tricky, rolling greens make this course a true challenge.
A very enjoyable golf experience. I will be back when in San Diego.
chucklehead51 Thanks so much for playing with us and glad you enjoyed the golf experience! Come back and see us again soon.
