Pitreavie Golf Club
Played On 11/13/2022Interesting parkland
We played in mid November so off winter tees. The course was in great condition especially greens for time of year.
Quite hilly - personally I like but not to everyone's taste and would be hardwork without an electric trolley for those older.
At the time of our visit the club was undergoing major renovation so did not go inside.
Strathmore Golf Centre - Rannaleroch Course
Played On 07/24/2022Ok parkland
Great location. Pretty views. Never been on a golf course with no tee markers before. We started on 10th by accident. Shop person gave no advice and no directions. Card map not lot of help and there is literally nothing to tell you what tee you are on.
After a period of sun had been heavy rain previous day. Fairways were bit patchy and some bunkers contained major pools of water. Greens generally in good condition with many challenging contours.
Kirriemuir Golf Club
Played On 07/13/2022Tricky little parkland
The course is short and even shorter if you don't know the yellow tees are shorter than the reds for some obscure reason
The course appears deceptively simple but various slopes and bunkers can easily add to your round total.
Beautiful location with great views of the hills.
Greens in very good condition.
Alyth Golf Club - Glenisla Course
Played On 06/09/2021GolfNow confusing. Average parkland course
When you go to Alyth on the App you are only offered Glen Isla course and not Alyth. While both are connected they should the difference should be made clear
Our booking was made for Glen Isla because of this and switched when got there.
The course is a standard parkland with few things to make it memorable. That having been said it made a gentle relaxing afternoon
Drumoig Hotel Golf Resort
Played On 02/07/2020Varied course
My personal experience was spoilt by slow play despite it being mid winter. The course is long with varied holes and beautiful views. Club house is hotel as well and offers good facilities
Duff House Royal Golf Club
Played On 02/02/2020flat parkland
Staff very helpful and excellent clubhouse. Course was a flat parkland course with wide fairways and little rough, a few bunkers and 3 holes bordering the river. Playing on frost / winter greens ment that not all the bunkers were effectively in play.
The course is a pleasant scenic course but can't really be said to be challenging. For the middle of winter the fairways were in good condition.
Forfar Golf Club
Played On 10/27/2019Imagine a frozen sea
I like hilly courses. That is not exactly what Forfar is though. Many fairways have multiple rolling undulations a bit like a frozen sea. This makes for interesting golf - and this is written by someone who has a links course as their home club so does not expect iron flat fairways.
Notwithstanding it is a course you should play. It is interesting the scenery good to. Green fee prices vary so if you can wait for a hot deal it is worth doing so. We were greeted well at the pro shop. This time we did not eat in the club house
Aboyne Golf Club
Played On 10/20/2019Interesting mixed style course
Played late October so no problem with pace of play. Though had been Some rain beforehand not much mud. Rain had slowed greens but they were still in excellent condition. As mentioned course is varied with differing challenges. All staff were welcoming and clubhouse offers excellent facilities. Beautiful location.
Ballumbie Castle Golf Club
Played On 10/13/2019Nice enough parkland
Once an estate well outside of Dundee is now surrounded by houses. The course is simple enough with challenges from slopes and dog legs.
It depends what you want from a course. This is neither the greatest challenge you are ever likely to meet or a course you will remember for years to come. On the other hand it can offer a pleasant afternoons golf. Pro shop and club house eye both welcoming.
Like many parkland courses it cam get muddy!
Edzell Golf Club - Old Course
Played On 02/13/2019Beautiful views and nice clubhouse
If you want a stroll around a fairly flat parkland course with some great views and enjoy clubhouse facilities then this is the place to go. The course layout is largely forgettable with wide fairways and mainly straight holes especially on the outward 9. The back 9 have a little more challenge including one significantly high green with bunkers on the way and all round the base.
Stonehaven Golf Club
Played On 10/15/2018Fun shortish course some challenges
Course goes right out on cliffs just to north if Stonehaven. The holes zig zag and include 2 across a small ravine (circa 100 yds to clear). Spectacular views. People in club house friendly as were members. 1 of the few to make an effort for international visitors. Playing mid October course was in good condition. The greens are slow because of the type of grass used but were generally good. As with many links courses greens relatively small.
Kendal Golf Club
Played On 09/09/2018Good fun hilly course
As you would expect from its location it is for those who like hilly course, which I do. You play over the summit of the hills and you can have an extra challenge from the wind. Shooting over rough to the fairway on a few holes and in one case quite a high wall.
Fairways and greens were in good condition.
Montrose Golf Links - Broomfield Course
Played On 09/05/2018Nice for training and quick round
This is a short 18 hole next to its big sister - the medal ground. It is flat and has few obstacles and billiard ball flat greens. I went there because my game recently, particularly with woods was off and I wanted a bit of quiet practice. Its good for that or if you need a quick round. If you want a challenge then you need the medal course.
Stonehaven Golf Club
Played On 08/22/2018Fun Links course
We were welcomed on arrival. The course was quiet as it was raining and we had the additional problem that the clouds coming over meant the flag could not always be seen especially when playing over the gorge to the other side ! Luckily we had friendly advice from other golfers. Definitely one in my book to play again, hopefully when the sun is shining so we can see the flags and enjoy the sea views.
Arbroath Links Golf Course
Played On 08/16/2018Links with some twists
The course is flat occupying a long but narrow strip so it's mainly 9 holes out, literally, followed by 9 back with only minor exceptions. That having been said it is a course that favours accuracy more than big hitters with bunkers and some small twistsin the fairway. The fairways are not cut that short which often prevents much roll and the rough typical of a links course. Whilst very close to the sea the raised railway line prevents views of it.
Overall I think an interesting course to play occasionally speciall to practice your medium distance accuracy. As with most courses in this area the summer full rate is expensive but bargains can be found if you can be flexible with your timings.
Forfar Golf Club
Played On 07/21/2018Interesting parkland course
Height of summer and course was good. Greens excellently maintained. Interesting course uses bunkers well - varying width fairways and rough you can find your ball in usually. Little bit back and forth parallels for some holes. Some closeness between greens and tees in places. Definition nicely somewhere I’d play again
Staff in pro shop and bar made us welcome.
Turnhouse Golf Club
Played On 06/24/2018Good course
Ideal sunny conditions. Fairways and greens in good condition. Fairways mainly wide greens not huge but largely flat. Course is somewhat hilly but not extreme. Personally can't stand flat courses. Not the very best Edinburgh course but good
West Linton Golf Club
Played On 11/11/2017Nice Scottish rural course with great views
Taking into account playing in winter after a very wet spelll the course was in not bad condition. The course has been expanded over years and as a result is a little up and down in layout as extra holes squeezed in. None the less had interesting parts and some spectacular scenery close to pentland hills. We were welcomed by various staff. Will come back to play in summer time.
St. Boswells Golf Club
Played On 07/02/2017Nice for a relaxing Sunday morning
It's not a competition course and is 9 holes but they encourage you to go round twice. It's a beautiful spot. If you just want a relaxing fun game this is the place to go. Friendly locals on the course
SCHLOSS Roxburghe Golf Course
Played On 07/01/2017Good condition left a little dissapointed
Much was made of this being a championship course. Whilst the condition of the course was good the layout and play left me a little underwhelmed.
I found little memorable about the course and have played a number of course that brag less but are in my opinion more interesting.
Thanks for taking the time to write your review.
Apologies for the belated response
