Walked

Walk in the park.

I am making it a point to review courses that I play because I often get upset when I cant find a current review. I played an afternoon round at GCU, it was cart path only but I walked so it was perfect. The course has come in great after the overseed. There are a couple of greens that did not respond but it looks like they are making the effort to repair them. If you have not played this course since the GCU remodel you have no idea what you are missing. The fairways were in great shape and the greens were really good with the exception of a maybe two with damage. The pace of play slows at times and because of the park style layout you can hit into people from time to time with a miss hit. Staff was great. The only negative I have is the street traffic is a but much and it seems the only solution would be a large fence around the property. This course is an easy walk, FYI they also put in paved cart paths which makes the course look a lot better.

Needs time

So I have heard stories about the course being in rough shape but it was coming back, I don't know what it like in the past but it still looks to be in recovery. The course staff was great, starter was friendly and gave great instructions. The practice area is OK but dry, and the chipping area is small if more than two in area. The greens were redone and nothin holds and fast which is fine for putting but nothing stays up. Tee boxes are in ok shape but course knowledge will make or brake you.

Not Bad

I was really mad when I first stepped on the first fairway of the course because I felt a spark might light the whole course of fire, so it was very dry. This is great if you want your ball to roll out 25 yards every time but I understand what time of the year it is. The back was in better shape than the front but if you do not know the course water hazards are not marked well and if you’re a big hitter this will hurt you on some holes. This course could be a great city course after the over seed and I know that in the winter it plays better.
Also it seems that this course is a part of the first tee program and a lot of high school programs. I do not hold the course responsible for the golf etiquette as much I do as the coaching staff of the high school bringing the golfers to the course. Please teach your golfers not only the rules of the game but also how to compose yourself at a golf course.
Overall this is a great place to play and practice.

Good Hot Deal

I golf on average once a week and I chase the hottest deals in the summer so I have a chance to play everywhere in the valley. This was my third time playing Club West and I would have to say this is worst shape I have seen it in. With that being said I have followed the reviews from the summer and it seems that they have fixed some of the issues from the horrible reviews they received this summer. The outside staff was great but the driving range is in bad shape with little attention to detail and no stations to hit from and you hit into a large empty dirt pit. The inside staff was very nice but reported that the course was in “great shape”, if it was your first time there you might believe it but compared to playing there in the past the course was beat up and I understand that we are very close to over seeding but I was disappointed in areas that should be mark ground under repair.
Greens were very inconsistent and do not judge the course by the practice green it was so shaggy I was scared to see what the course offered. Some greens were rolling consistent but once again there is a lack of attention to detail in the care of the course. The empty Mud Pit on the back 9 is embarrassing because it once looked to be a beautiful water feature but it is now a series of mosquito nests. I am giving this course a hard review because I have seen it at its best. I would recommend you give it a try but I would say hold them to the high standard that they have in the winter. Also to all my golfer brothers and sisters please review courses on golfnow.com it helps golfers know the current conditions.
