McCullough's Emerald Golf Links
Played On 10/15/2016Amazing
I absolutely loved playing this course.
I will start with the negative, and it wasn't even something the course itself could fix, the group behind us.
On the first tee, we were waiting behind a group on the fairway, and a group on the green. The group behind us, we are assuming were members, drove past us standing on the tee box, and drove to the senior tee box and stood there waiting. As we weren't about to tee off with them even on the cart path, that wasn't a nice way to start a round; having the group behind you passing you before you even teed up.
Once we got our round started I fell in love with the course. They give you a booklet with all the yardages, a little 'about me' section on each hole, which is a nice touch.
Things like that make me want to go back to a course, the little things done to make sure the golfer has a good experience.
This course is cool because it is influenced by holes all around the world, from Ireland, to Scotland and many other courses, the layout is a European Links layout, and it was pretty cool.
I would play here for the price I paid 10 out of 10 times.
Howell Park Golf Course
Played On 10/04/2016In Love
Being from Ocean County, my friends and I always look for the best courses for the best prices.
My friend always has been begging me to get out there to play Howell with him, and I finally committed, and I was pleased.
BEAUTIFUL course. We got out there and played the 9+ rate, and played fast enough to finish 18.
The fairways were beautiful and nicely done, although the rough was kind of thick, it rained the past week before we got out there.
The greens were challenging but fun. I heard that usually the greens are really fast, but when I played they were slow.
It does get expensive if you do not have a county card, but if you can get out there for a twilight 9+, you will not be disappointed. It was very peaceful, and once the fall comes around, I can picture that course looking like one of the nicest courses in the area.
Bunker Hill Golf Course
Played On 09/03/2016Nothing Special
At first I was excited to play this course. It seemed to be a place that took pride in their course.
The staff was rude and slow. When we finished our round, we lined our carts up behind a line of carts towards the parking lot. When we were walking towards our cars, the cart boy made a comment that we should have dropped the cart off behind the cart barn where they belong. I would have had no problem with doing that, but it seemed as if the carts were being put in that location, and the way he spoke was in a rude manner.
When purchasing our round, it must have taken 15 minutes just to check in. I guess it didn't matter because the course was backed up by 20 minutes any way.
The round was extremely slow, and the course's conditions were poor.
At 60+ a round, I would never recommend playing here. I'm not sure why courses charge so much money when the quality isn't there. I understand the season is shorter than most, and they need to make their money, but if you are going to charge that much, at least take pride in what your course looks like.
Colts Neck Golf Club
Played On 08/21/2016Short but Challenging
Had a great experience on this course.
Although the course plays short, it makes up for it with its challenges. The layout of the course made it fun and challenging both at the same time. The chances to GIR (Green in Regulation) are there, but you have to work for it.
We all found that the back nine was so much more challenging than the front, and we all agreed that the par 3s on this course were the hardest part of playing.
Not many divots on the greens which is nice and always appreciated by putters.
The ranger stopped by pretty often and asked how we were doing, how everything was going, and to have fun. You don't hear that at many courses, but a little bit of respect goes a long way.
Overall, great day. Would play there again if given an opportunity.
PS - they only serve beer to members

You can go pay the same fee and play a better course in this area.
The cart fee is nearly as much as the green fee which doesn't make all that much sense.
Their Pro Shop is empty, they had what seemed like 4 shirts on display, and when I asked for a logo ball they did not even have them. As a logo ball collector, that bothered me.
The course, although not in the worst shape, wasn't in the shape it should have been in paying how much our group paid.
We were a 3some that got paired with a single. He was a really great guy, but also agreed he most likely will not be spending his time and money on this course again.
Seaview - The Bay Course
Played On 07/08/2016Beautiful
We got a Hot Deal of GolfNow for way cheaper than what people were paying while just walking up to pay. I don't even want to say the difference. ALWAYS check out Golf Now before you book.
LOVED this place. Was one of the nicest courses I have every played. Not only for the reason of the golf that was played, but also because of everything it came with.
From getting views of Atlantic City's skyline in the distance, or the breeze off the bay, Seaview's Bay Course was wonderful. The staff was so incredibly friendly, and they were very well prepared to get golfers out there and playing.
The staff gives you a overview of the entire course from start to finish, explaining bathroom locations, pin placements, pace of play. The starter even offered us the Pines course if we wanted to play at a faster pace.
Overall, great experience. Course was in lovely condition and the greens were beautiful. They were riding around watering the holes, maintaining them the way it should be. Cart girl was on her game, making sure everyone was good almost every hole it seemed.
Play here.

Staff was really cool. Pro shop guys were nice along with the starter. Unfortunately the course was not in good shape. Bunkers were really wet, some fringes were poorly maintained. Greens were also kinda in poor shape, putts were bouncing like crazy.
Looks like it used to be a really nice course, but once the fort closed it looks like they started to care less.
I would rather play an hour away at twisted dunes for the price I paid for SE. Or anywhere else.
Ocean Acres Country Club
Played On 06/18/2016Nice Course, Not Nice Staff
If you have played in the area, maybe a little more North, at Woodlake in Lakewood, you will see that Ocean Acres might remind you of a 'beachy' type of Woodlake.
The 10th hole is the coolest on the course by far, with the water surrounding it.
2 things I want to say negative about this course are: 1. The staff was not the nicest. We were given an attitude for paying on our debit cards. I am sorry, but if you offer cards, I'm going to use my card. It is 2016, not 1920. Especially after we had waited for 10 minutes to be helped by someone on the staff.
The other negative is the pace of play. I have heard and read reviews of this, and didn't believe it. Even though it wasn't the worst, the pace of play was most certainly slower than usual.
Other than those two things, the course played great. I guess that is the most important part. They start you off with a nice challenge on 1 with a Z shaped hole.
The price was pretty decent for what it's worth. The back 9 is pretty awesome too.
Easy access off the parkway also.
Twisted Dune Golf Club

Was one of the nicest courses I have played. Truly a beautiful course. Although the fairways are wide, I found myself struggling after driving. The greens were really tough, and people can get lost in the bunkers. There were times where my partner was standing in the bunker, and I was unable to see them. Which is not a bad thing, just haven't seen bunkers that big before.
The greens were also very challenging and you had to earn your putts.
Pace of play was great. The starters were good guys and gave us some tips before hand (which still didn't help my game).
I would play here every weekend if I lived a little closer. The price for the round was good prices, especially for the way the course was maintained, and compared to some prices in Atlantic City, this place was cheap.
We played with 1 single player who had played many of the courses around AC, and he said this is one of the better courses in that area.
Great experience in the heart of the season. Going to continue to check for deals on Golf Now for this throughout the summer, because the course is most certainly worth the one hour drive.
No alcohol sold from the drink kart girl unfortunately, but I did see people putting coolers in the cart, not sure if it is BYOB on the course or not.
Woodlake Country Club
Played On 05/31/2016Local Spot
This is a sneaky hard course. Although it seems like it plays straight on some holes, the greens are small and there is a lot going on around them.
Putting seems to be most challenging, as mentioned above; the greens are small, and also are fast.
The rough was also pretty challenging to hit out of. I had a solid chunk out of the rough because my ball was about 4 inches into the rough. TOUGH.
I didn't play my best round, but I found myself hitting some quality shots regardless.
Watch out for children playing on the fairway; they will steal your balls, and talk some smack to you (on the back 9).
Bar inside with food. Can't beat it. Beautiful course in the Ocean County area.
The Bay Club - East Course
Played On 05/27/2016Great Experience
From the moment we arrived at Bay Club until the moment we left, both me and the other person I played with had an amazing experience.
From checking in and paying to getting greeted by the starter, the whole staff was super friendly. We had an 8am tee time on the West course, and the starter gave us an option: we could play behind a threesome on the west, or be the first out there on the East. We had wanted to play Devil's Island, so we chose the West option. Another thing we really liked was that they didn't pair us up with another 2 players. I feel like most people want to play with only 2 when booking, and people normally get paired up. Playing as a two made the round fly by.
The course was amazing. The greens were sneaky, but still gave the roll an opportunity to fall. Although the rough was really thick, the course played amazing. I had actually shot my best round ever until I reached the 9th hole.
The 9th and 18th share a massive green, lake, and some bunkers. Both the 9th and 18th were the hardest holes in my opinion, and both holes ruined my score.
The lady in the kitchen was one of the nicer ladies I have every met. She was super generous and willing to help, and had the thick Maryland accent that almost all Jersey boys love.
For 60 dollars, I would recommend this place to anyone. If you are staying in OCMD, it is about 15 minutes off the island, and the price for what you get was so worth it.
Great experience, would absolutely play there again. I have added a logo ball to my collection.
Mercer Oaks Golf Course - East Course
Played On 05/19/2016Mercer East
Loved the course. At first I was upset with how many divots there were on the first hole, but as the round went on, it seemed as if there were less and less divots.
The course was beautiful. Amazing views of the course from all over, as the links style course allowed for like relaxing views.
The greens were tough. They were extremely fast, and some of the pin placements were in challenging spots.
On some of the par threes, there were some decent sized divots, but that means people were taking nice shots at the green which I'm okay with.
I would recommend this any day of the week. I got this off Golf Now for 20 dollars, and I am glad I made the decision to play. A+
We're thrilled that you chose to play here, Duckworthb, and that your round was fun and challenging!
Gambler Ridge Golf Club
Played On 05/15/2016Gambler Ridge
This course is sneaky challenging at times. Although it really isn't the hardest course I have ever played, some of the holes are pretty tough.
The most challenging thing about this course was the greens. I am not sure if it was because of a week's worth of rain, or if that is just how the greens are, but putting was a true challenge.
Some of the holes have weird doglegs and hard pin placement. I enjoyed playing here, and always would play here, especially for the good prices.
The only downfall is the staff. This was the second time now that I felt the staff was rude upon arrival. It happened twice with me, and another person I played with had mentioned it also. We just felt that when paying, the staff was rude to us. No greeting, and when we tried sparking some simple conversation, we got a negative attitude sent back at us. That isn't a good look for a course.
Other than that, great day at the course.
We can't apologize enough for the gruff treatment you received. You're absolutely right in saying it's not a good look for the course, and we're upset that you encountered such treatment. We'll have a word with all of our staff, as this is really not the norm for us despite this being the second time you've been given poor treatment. Thank you for your candid feedback, and please feel free to come back again in the future. We'd love to have you!
Eagle Ridge Golf Club - Ridge Course
Played On 05/14/2016Eagle Ridge A+ Yet Again
We played the back 9 (Ridge I believe) and the Links in the back. I played with 2 people who have never played this course before, and they loved it.
We booked the tee time on Tuesday to ensure we would get out. After waiting on the weather all week, the rain had held up for us throughout the entire round. It was great.
We got there somewhat early and the starter was a great guy; he told us to go hit a couple balls and get back here and he would let us out there early. I would recommend just getting a large bucket for all 4 of you, because the buckets are kind of big.
The starter placed us behind a group who was not only good, but also playing best ball. We did not have to wait at all throughout the round. Another thing I liked about yesterday's round was that no one was placed directly behind us.
Overall, the round was everything I could have asked for. The weather held up, we were rushed, and we weren't waiting. We even got to play the challenging links course.
One negative I did notice was the massive divots on the greens. I feel like I see that on almost every course, but if everyone were to fix 1 divot on the green every time a group walked onto the green, the greens would be that much better.
Spooky Brook Golf Course
Played On 05/10/2016Spooky Brook
I decided to get a quick twilight round in as I had some time to kill. I'm glad I decided to go to Spooky, as I had a great time.
Walking alone, I ended up pairing up with a group of 2, and another single player, all walking.
We all played at a pretty quick pace, only having to wait at 1 or 2 holes for no longer than 5 minutes. What amazed me were the greens. Although there were some divots around the greens, what I thought was the best part of this course were the greens. The ball was rolling really nice, probably nicer than I have seen in a while.
The course plays pretty straight-forward, nothing too crazy challenging. We played the back 9, and I got holes 1, 2, and 3 in after our back 9.
I normally do not walk, but after yesterday, I plan on walking more as I enjoyed it. This course is good for walking because it is for the most part flat.
I would highly recommend this course if you are in the area. The staff was friendly with me, as I wanted to walk on without a tee time. The person inside the Pro Shop nicely asked to just confirm with the starter as there was a league going on. When asking the starter, he gave me a response like "yeah you can play, this is golf!" kind of mentality. Got me excited to get out there and play.
Overall, great day even with the random patches of rain. It turned out to be a decent evening,. Even though I still shot like garbage. But hey, that's the game of golf.
Eagle Ridge Golf Club - Ridge Course
Played On 05/07/2016Eagle Ridge
Eagle Ridge is one of my favorite courses in the area. With the 18 hole option along with the 9 links holes, you can get a taste of all different types of golf.
We started at 10, then played the front nine as the back nine. Playing twilight, it was as if we had the whole course to ourself.
Even with a weeks worth of rain, the course still played pretty well.
The fairways were in good shape, and the greens were in alight shape. One thing I did notice is the lack of divot fixes on the green. If you're going to be that good and get GIRs, you should have the courtesy to fix it when you get to the green. It only makes everyone else's game better as well.
When playing the front and back nine, there were some beautiful views to capture as the sun went down.
This is the course that I would play each weekend if I had to play a course that provided quality and a good price, but I like to try different courses out.
This place gets pretty packed in the summer, and I wouldn't expect the same pace of play and freedom we had yesterday, in July.
One thing I have noticed in the past is that although members do get special privileges, I don't think that they have the right to cut in front of a group on their way back from the links course. This has happened to me and my group numerous times; when reaching the 17th hole, we are all of a sudden backed up because people from the links decide to cut in front of us on the way back, hitting 17 and 18. I understand everyone wants to get those extra couple of holes in, but this has caused me and my group to miss the 17th and 18th hole due to time, because people who have got their 18 holes in decided to cut us off to get more holes in. That isn't fair in my opinion.
All in all, beautiful course. Provides challenges, simplicity, nice greens, and amazing views. I would play this everyday if I could.
Cream Ridge Golf Club
Played On 04/23/2016Cream Ridge - One of the Better Courses in the Area
This is one of my favorite courses in the area. It is challenging in almost every aspect of the game, but also is fun and enjoyable for people who are just starting to play.
I actually began my golf career at this course about two years ago, so every time I come back, I like to see my progress over the two years duration.
This course gives the player a taste of everything the game of golf gives; stress, joy, anger, and pain. lol.
The intimidating long first hole could either go great for you, or make your day awful right off the bat. With the par 3 water hole waiting for you at the second tee, you want to get off to a good start on this straight par 5.
If you hit the ball straight, you shouldn't have too much of an issue at this course. But if you start to hit the balls into the trees, it starts to get more challenging with your punches and shots out of the trees.
Staff was super friendly and had a dog running around to greet all the guests.
Pricing is right where it should be especially with the quality of this course.
This course is very hilly, but it makes it fun and unique. I would have to say my favorite hole on this course is the par 3 second, or the par 4 fifth.
Would recommend checking out this course.
Lakewood Country Club
Played On 02/20/2016Lakewood CC
Along with the great weather and decent conditions for the winter, the course also included a free bowl of soup at Maggie's, their bar and restaurant next door.
Lakewood is a perfect course for someone who wants to play a par 72 but may not have the best control over their ball. The course is very wide open and the most challenging part is the greens. If you put yourself on the wrong area of the green, you will find yourself struggling to putt on some holes, which obviously leads to aggrivation, especially after a solid drive and iron.
All in all, Lakewood isn't the most challenging course, but does have some aspects that make it challenging for any golfer. As mentioned before, the greens are pretty tough, and there are some holes that make you wonder how you're going to even approach getting to the green.
On the back nine, there is a hole in which you have to hit the ball up a what seems like a 100 foot wall in order to get to the green. Shooting blind, the green doesn't give you much in return as not only can you barely see the pin placement, you also have no idea how the green is reading.
The pace of play wasn't anything to worry about, but this was in February. I'm sure along with any other course, it will get more crowded once summer comes rolling in.
Not a bad experience for one of the first times out there this season, especially for the pricing.
Are you sure you are commenting on the right golf course? Their green fees are nowhere near 60+, check again. For the price, with cart, its really a steal.
