Nice layout great conditions

An absolutely gorgeous facility with an equally beautiful course. Friendly people. The course is a good test of your game. Would give it 5 stars if it was a little more affordable. I still recommend you play this course at least once. I have about 4 times and was never disappointed.

Nice well kept course

I usuall make this course a regular stop when I am in the area. The staff is very nice and they have a well stocked Pro Shop. The restaurant is average at best. The course is always in immaculate condition. The layout/design can be a little mundane and easy depending on your ability. However the conditions of the overall course and the greens in particular are pristine. 16-18 are good finishing holes. 18 in particular into the wind will give you all you can handle. Well worth playing. Neat looking Castle style clubhouse.

Gorgeous facility even better course

The inside facility is spotless and high end. Throw in an added benefit of a beautiful large covered bar and 2nd restaurant area with flat screen tv and it is paradise. The range is great with specific daily yardages. The course itself is very scenic and in immaculate condition. You will immediately notice the flawless greens. The course has some challenges, specifically 17 and 18 but if you play the appropriate tees as indicated by handicap you should be fine. A couple of hidden hazards and as of the day I played it the rough is getting thick and high so find the fairway or you may have to take your medecine and punch out. The staff was great and we had a great day. It should also be noted the course drains well as there was so much rain the prior days and morning of the day we played but it still was 90% and no real noticeable soggy areas. One of the great golf facilities around. HIGHLY HIGHLY recommend it.

Scenic, well kept course, with great layout

I was considering giving this 5 stars but some of the greens appear to be dead in spots, although it seems to becoming addressed. The layout of the course is very nice and each hole has a stone map built in on a brick wall. There are many conviently located water drinking stations which is a plus. Although I use sky caddy the course was also well marked with yardages on all sprinkler heads, signs for carry and layup distances. The traps and fairways are in great shape. You need accuracy to score your best here. A little bummed out that they did not have a pin sheet or a color coding system indicating the flag depth. Landing on the wrong plateau on the green will penalize you. Course has lots of undulations. Very pleased at the matenence, pace of play, cleanliness and the nice surrounding development. The course is located in a quiet section of Summerville and easy to get to. The rates for South Carolina residents on GOLFNOW (not even using hot deals) are the best of all the area courses. You need to play this more than once to know where best to hit is. Since the pace of play was great I took my time to drive up and see where best to hit it. I will definitely make this course a staple and highly recommend it to others. Will try the restaurant next time.

Nice layout great greens

The course is a decent layout that is in good shape. The greens are in phenenomanal condition but be prepared for their speed. They roll very true, it is all feel putting, no banging the ball as they roll very fast. The par threes are challenging. They had a cart girl on a Monday which was the day we played which was good too.
The staff was friendly. We did not try the restaurant so I can not review.

It seems they never water the course or enforce pace of play. The pace of play was so horrible we quit after 14 holes.

Oak Forest is the least challenging and worst looking. Between the 3rd and 4th holes I felt like I was in a prison yard with all the rusting outdoor weight lifting equipment, benches and dumbells.
Bring a hammer so you can get a tee in the ground and expect to over pay for a glorified city owned muni course. As a women maybe I notice these things more readily than a man, but that setting and the garbage on the course was discusting. I regularly shoot in the 80's. I will be shooting those rounds elsewhere.

Was better before has gone downhill a lot

Most tee boxes lack grass (played white tees). Many fairways lacked grass and there was too much hard pan. On the Black Robin which was my favorite I was surprised they tore down the bathrooms which used to be accessible from the 5th and 7th holes. On the 6th they have cut away all the natural foliage away. It looks like they are clearing land. I hope they are not going to build anymore there. It is so over crowded already.
I am not sure if the cart girl was having a bad day or was just not friendly and did not care if she did any business. We saw her twice. She did not wave or acknowledge us. Not even an a hello or can I get you anything today?
I golf all the time on using golf now and had to take several months off. I was planning to make Westcott my staple but after yesterday when I saw what became of this complex, I will just pass. The traffic in the area, which I know the course can not control but is a result of the ridiculous amount of construction going on (loads of apartments) is another disincentive to play a run down course whose staff could care less if you are there.

Course is made better by it's location

This is a nice average course that becomes very attractive and beautiful as you get on the back 9 and experience some dramatic views of Charleston Harbor.
I plan on returning to this course real soon as the day I played it was unseasonaly cold and extra windy.

It could have been great but.....

The layout and the scenery is incredibly beautiful. The problem with the course is that it has horrible drainage. This has been my experience on two separate occasions. Not only do balls plug where they do not on other nearby courses on the same day, the course gets so saturated that there are literally deep footprints around the greens. Either you play and sink in the ground where you walk or if you play after a week or two dry spell you are hitting out of old semi hardened foot prints.
The inside staff was neither friendly or nasty. They just were there.
My real complaint about staff is they have one particular grass cutter that will mow the entire property without ever acknowledging your existence and moving over to the side. Somebody pointed this out to me the first time I played there and said he is notorious for doing this. Well wouldn't you know it he was there this last time I played there and was at it again. The other grass cutters were courteous. This fellow as an attitude. If you play there you can't miss him. He is a heavy set fellow with a white beard with the attitude of you do not belong on his golf course when he is working. Twice in four months is not a coincidence.

I have played this course again since this review and I really missed it. The course is in much better condition than I gave it credit for originally. By comparison to neighboring courses the layout and conditions are superior. I highly recommend playing it. If I could change my review ranking I would give it 4 to 4 and 1/2 stars. Would be a 5 if they had a full driving range and one grass cutter was courteous. This course is a must play if you are in the area.
