Redding Country Club
Played On 05/22/2018$6 for Range Balls!
I played here in a tournament conducted by the MGA; a $200 entry fee. They had some clown sitting at a table dispensing bags of 20 range balls for $6! And the range is irons only! They even tried to push me to buy a yardage book as well! I have never seen a country club charge for range balls for a tournament. I was in disbelief when the afore mentioned clown said that range balls were not included in the entry fee and waited for me to hand him $6 to place in his pro v1 lid cash collection. Redding Country Club should be embarrassed by this and change their policy fast! This is a joke!!!
Try to avoid playing here in tournaments where you have to walk. Definitely not a walking course.
Ocean Course at Peninsula Papagayo
Played On 02/25/2017Nice Course
The course was in pretty good condition when I played it in February. The course itself is pretty easy, but the greens are very challenging. Not speedy, but the subtle breaks will get you. The drives between holes are a bit long. A few holes on the back nine feel crammed in. Overall, a pretty good course.
PGA WEST Jack Nicklaus Tournament Course
Played On 12/25/2015Great course
This is one of the best courses in La Quinta. In my opinion it is more enjoyable than the Stadium Course. My only complaint was that there were too many un-repaired ball marks on the greens. Other than this, this is a must play course.
Mountain View Country Club
Played On 12/24/2015Easy course
This is clearly a private club that tries to give the members the lowest possible score they can shoot. This is a very easy course. If you are renting a house in the community, they don't allow you to play golf easily. You can only play with a member a few times and it is $25 a day to use their range. For renters, there are other, better, and more interesting public courses in the area.
SilverRock Resort
Played On 12/23/2015Challenging course
This is one of the more challenging courses in the area. The front nine is the easier of the two. Holes 15,16, and 17 could make or break your score. Overall, a beautiful course worth the money.
PGA WEST Pete Dye Mountain Course
Played On 12/22/2015Great Course
This course is one of the best in the area. The back nine is very special. The course was in great condition. Greens were a bit slow though.
Firecliff at Desert Willow Golf Resort
Played On 12/21/2015Good Course
The course was in pretty good condition. The greens were very slow because of overseeding. The course was empty so pace of play was good. The price was a bit high for a course that was not in top shape, but I would recommend it.
PGA WEST Greg Norman Course
Played On 12/20/2015Pretty Good Course
I played as a single and had the first tee time of the day so pace of play was great. The tee boxes, fairways, bunkers, cart paths in excellent condition. Greens were a bit chewed up and patchy in some areas but the ball rolled ok. There is no rough on this course so either you hit the fairway or you are in the desert. Overall, a pretty good course, but there are a few that are better in the area. Good price though.
Cholla Course at We-Ko-Pa Golf Club
Played On 08/07/2015Great Courses
These two courses are definitely worth the quick drive from Scottsdale. The practice facilities, golf shop, restaurant, and both courses were excellent. The Cholla course was definitely the more challenging of the two courses, but in my opinion the better course. If you are a low handicapper, the cholla course can really be enjoyable and rewarding, but high handicappers will definitely get frustrated. If you don't hit the fairway your ball will end up in the desert where it is almost impossible to find. The saguaro course, on the other hand, had much wider fairways. Although, the same problem with the desert does come into play. Nevertheless, the saguaro course was definitely easier. My only complaint about both courses was that there weren't any yardage markers in the fairways. If there was a blind shot into the green, there was no way to get your yardage as rangefinders can only work if the flag is visible. Other than that everything was great. I played at Troon North the day prior and noticed that the course mantenence at We-Ko-Pa was much better. The fairways at Troon were chewed up and looked dead in places. Here they were flawless. The greens did run very slow however. I left many putts short. If you are in the area, one or both of these courses are must plays. They give the other top courses in the area a run for their money.
Lassing Pointe Golf Course
Played On 07/13/2015Don't waste your time
This course is definitely not a top public course. The course was not in good shape at all. The fairways were extremely long, the rough was patchy, the bunkers were disgusting, and the greens were very slow and the break was inconsistent from green to green. On top of this, I played right after a few days of heavy rain causing the entire course to be completely soaked. the balls plugged and there was mud everywhere. The staff was not friendly either. The man in the pro shop was very unpleasant and was not friendly. The one interesting part of this course is the 18th green. this green is so large that if you had to put from one side to the other, you would have to take a full swing with a putter! Don't waste your time with this course.
Stonelick Hills Golf Course
Played On 07/12/2015One of the best public courses
I played this course after a big rain storm so it was cart path only. Besides the fact that the balls plugged in certain spots, it was a great course. It was very well maintained. The greens were not too fast and rolled very true. My only complaint was that there was no ranger to keep groups at the correct pace of play. It was an extremely long round because there was a backup on the back nine. But besides that, everything about the course and its facilities were great. One of the best public courses I've ever played.
TPC River's Bend
Played On 07/11/2015Difficult Course
This course was in good shape overall. A few of the bunkers were being worked on and not playable. It was also cart path only causing the round to be longer than it should have been. Everything else about the course was great. The greens were not too fast and were overall pretty flat. This course is not for a golfer that sprays their shots as balls in the long grass are almost always lost. The course would definitely be easier if played a second time. Overall, it was a good course that is worth playing if given a chance.
Fenway Golf Club
Played On 07/08/2015Challenging Course
This course is kept in very good condition. It plays pretty challenging if you don't hit the fairways because the rough is very thick. The greens are fast and EXTREMELY undulated. If you do not put the ball in the correct spot on the green, a three put is likely. The course layout is not challenging, but the rough, bunkers, and greens make it much harder. It is worth playing if you get the chance to play this private course.
