Apache Stronghold Nov 2017

Used a GolfNow Hot Deal so well worth the price, offset somewhat by the fuel cost from Mesa. Upon arriving was greeted by the starter Rudy who was very friendly and helpful, even brought a cart out to the car. Having arrived an hour early, the lady checking us in was also helpful explaining we had to wait until 30 minutes before tee time. Due to a large group having recently gone out an hour ahead of us, the starter allowed us to tee off on the back nine which I’m sure saved us at least an hour. Having played the course multiple times was expecting poor course conditions. I was pleasantly surprised that there were a number of improvements, overall grass conditions improved (rating 2 to 3), where there was once bare spots now has been filled in for the most part, a number of cart paths areas now have concrete greatly improving safety and erosion. However, continued to notice low spots where drainage remains poor despite improvements. This seems to be a continuing issue that they are addressing. One of the benefits of the course is it’s beauty, as the developer used the natural terrain and did little bulldozing. Recommend the course due to it’s uniqueness, friendliness of the staff and overall improvements in course conditions. Look forward to further improvement, especially around drainage.

San Pedro annual visit

Usually like to play the course 1-2 times a year when passing through Benson. The course has an interesting layout with the front nine (3-4 holes) running adjacent to the San Pedro river The course has numerous doglegs with a few holes on the back nine running through canyons. Having played the course for a number of years I don't expect great course conditions but am okay with this as part of the trip is just to get away. The tee boxes, fairways and greens are fine with the fairways lush while the greens have only a few burned out spots and will accept incoming shots. While I read the course is being improved, the process appears to be slow, with only a few sandtraps improved but most have no sand and poor drainage. The rough is terrible, weeds and the ball seems to sink, so you will loose a few balls if your not a good caddy. Due to time of year, humity was high and attracted flies. The cart paths are hardly existent and are basically just gravel paths. The carts are gas and ride a bit rough, due to age, course and cart path conditions. The staff was friendly and allowed access to the course prior to scheduled tee time. Found the cart girl to be pleasant and came around every 5-6 holes. Don't expect a $30-$40 (summer rates) course conditions you may find in Tucson but remember where you are and the quietness of the area.

Play it a few times

Wasn't sure if the drive from east Mesa to Maricopa would be worth it. Pleasantly surprised from the service from the starter to accommodate me into a group of my ability and keep the pace of play moving. Course was in great condition but needs to be played a few times. You'll find many dog-legs and hitting to areas that only become visible after getting there, you need to trust your game. You'll find the sand soft, the occasional buried lie if you come up short. Greens have many slopes so take the right club. Overall a good experience and plan to play again.

Great course, with plenty of doglegs to keep you thinking. The multiple tee boxes provide a challenge to all golfers. Course was in great condition, greens were soft and held shots. Proshop staff and all support were most friendly. Played in the afternoon and finished under 4 hours. Ran into threatening weather and was interesting that a siren on the course went off if lighting is detected within 5 miles of course. A good course to play again.

Del lago August 8th

Had a 12 noon tee time and proshop was accommodating and we were able to go out a little early, helped beat the afternoon thunderstorms. Course is challenging with elevation changes, some forced carries and a number of doglegs. Found the course to be in excellent condition for this time of year. Only improvement would be the tee's, grass was much too long. One other issue was no cart/beverage service until the 14th hole, however water is available every 2-3 holes.

El Conquistador-Canada Course May 5, 2015

Staff was friendly, however course conditions were only adequate with many of the greens in areas totally burnt. With no marshalls assisting to speed up play, a three-some ahead of us took 4:40 minutes to play. This group proceeded to slow us and another 4-5 groups. Observed this group damaging the course by slamming clubs etc. Get some marshalls out there and maybe you can get around in a reasonable time. Do not recommend this course at all.

Apache Creek Dec 2014 Review

Friendly staff in pro shop right through to starter. Pace of play was a bit slow due to holidays. Course is tight in that the design has many holes close to each other and balls from other holes seem to find there way to your hole. Did to lack of trees given it's a desert course expect the wayward shot. Course conditions were excellent with greens better than most. Course is senic with Superstition Mountains in the background.

Southern Ridge Dec 2014

Pro shop staff was friendly and called groups to tee in timely manner. No starter to be seen. Course conditions were mostly muddy, bring towels to clean ball as course did not have enough grass or water collected with poor run-off. Course is pretty plain (flat) while there are 6 par 3's, 4's and 5'a all the holes are somewhat identical for distance and most are straight with very little doglegs.

Course just went through a shortened version of overseed (2-3 days) and was in excellent condition. Course has ample fairways and not too difficult to score as greens will provide the most challenge. Greens were sanded so putting was a further challenge but are normally in good condition.

Course has a great layout. A lot of maintenance being done to areas impacted by erosion. Greens are in excellent condition, fairways better than average but a number of tee boxes could use a make-over.

Excellent support from all the staff. Found course to be in excellent condition. Make sure to use the correct tees or else you'll be searching for balls quite a bit. Also helps to be a good bunker player as they are strategically placed.
