Another Great Day (like all day) at Rhodes Ranch

This is one of my favourite courses in Vegas. We played 5 days in a row on a 6 days vacation, with RR being day 5. Good thing our redeye flight wasn't until 1030pm as we were on the course for almost 5,5 hours. I don't know why it's so slow, no marshalls to speak of, not that it would have helped...?
Otherwise, a very enjoyable round in a beautiful setting. I like the variety of holes, the challenges with the water features etc, but also there's some pretty wide fairways, and I managed to stay out of all but 1 bunker. No penalty stokes, no balls lost. That's a 5* round in my book!
Just a note...we did not see cart service all day, and with limited options at the turn, we felt extremely parched out there. Thankfully we found a fountain around the 15th? hole, at the comfort station and I was able to fill up my water bottle.

Extreme Wind on a Very Dry & Sandy course

This was our 2nd day of 5 rounds booked whilst on vacation. Not sure it's fair to Boulder Creek that it was sandwiched in between 2 rounds at Chimera, but I'd say the course conditions were like night & day. While Chimera was in amazing shape, lush fairways, lots of green, BCreek was sparse, fairways patchy, just overall feeling of dry. The backshop guy that helped with our clubs after the round said we were 2 weeks ahead of overseeding, which would make a huge difference, but for the same money (all Hot Deals) both Chimera & Rhodes Ranch were way more enjoyable.

Great Course, Won't go back on a Weekend

We love the challenge of playing 16 par 3s (& two 4s) on a course with lots of elevation change & great greens. But Turnberry does attract a lot of beginner golfers and the pace is definitely a problem. We were behind a 4some of young guys in 2 carts. Ok, yes, maybe the first time playing for at least one of them and 3-4 swings before even making contact, but there's no excuse for their complete lack of course etiquette. We were astonished to see them driving their carts right up the greens, often on the far side away from the path and even once across the green!
No marshall ever came around (we teed off at 4:18) so they just continued this the entire round. The 2 young guys we were paired wtih were very nice and trying to learn but they shared one set of clubs, which I'm surprised was permitted .
We have learned a lot of patience this season with so many new players out, which is good for the industry & the game. But with the very full tee sheets, courses should be trying harder to keep things on pace & within the rules.

Terrible Weather Ruined the Day

Rhodes Ranch is one of my favourite LAS courses so I always try to book at least one round during our week long vacation. While my husband is conventioning I go out solo to play. It's always stressful to show up as a 'one' and I hope to get paired with a couple or at least some friendly guys. Not sure I've ever seen any ladies playing RR but there must be some. The weather forecast was unfavourble but since a hot deal cannot be cancelled I had to go and wish for the best. It was not busy and the starter didn't have anyone for me to play with, though he said he'd sent a single out ahead of me, and there was no one on the sheet behind me for at least an hour. I think they could do a much better job at pairing people up. I would have been happy to to out with the other single if they'd told me as soon as I arrived, 30+ minutes before my tee time. There were many groups of men out playing, drinking in the bar, etc. I honestly felt like an unwelcome outsider.
Towards the end of front 9, the weather got worse, it started to rain & the temp dropped to 54 degrees. I had to quit after 10 when I couldn't feel my hands anymore. The most expensive 10 holes I've ever played.
RR is a beautiful course, visually it's a 10. Very player friendly IMO, however,
I do find their customer service to be lacking. I carried my bag myself from the parking lot, through the club house, checked in with minimal sense of being welcome, continued with my bag down the stairs to the range/starter area. Same when I drove in, soaking wet, in the rain. Nobody offered to help or acknowledged me in any way. I don't need to be coddled but the whole staff could probably do with a bit of service training. I love the course but will never book it again as a single.

Great Value but not sure I'd play it Again

I made a last minute booking as I had no golf plans for the day and the price was very good. When I go out to a course by myself (husband at his conference) it's always stressful not knowing who I might be paired with (& how they'll feel about playing with a woman) but I went out with a very nice local couple. The course was longer than I expected and very windy so that took away from the experience. It's a very interesting track but there were a lot of holes that seemed unreasonably difficult , ie: raised greens protected by full bunkers across the front, weird dog legs, etc. I should have paid more attention to the hole maps as I lost a few balls into water I didn't know was lying ahead. .
Quite a drive from our hotel (Bally's) so not sure I'd go out there again. But, for $35 w/ cart, it was by far the best value of the week.

A Woman's Perspective

Each Spring we vacation in Las Vegas, anxious to get on the links after a long cold Canadian winter.
We never pay more than $80us a round so I'm always looking for the best possible deal at a 4* or better course. I would say Rhodes Ranch is the closest to perfection we've experienced in Vegas, given these parameters. I booked a round on our 2nd day in town, as a solo while my husband was conferencing. The starter put me with a father/son from Ohio and a single local gentleman.
This worked out very well. I played from the forward tees, which was maybe a bit short but the next set of tees made the course over 6,000 yards which is too long.
It's always a pleasure to play on forward tees that are in great shape, with groomed tee boxes on a flat surface.
The track itself is quite player friendly but the greens are fast. Really fast if you're not used to that, so our scores were higher than our tee shots/fairway play would warrant, but that's ok.
There is one permanent washroom building on the course, about 6 holes in on the front, 4-5 on the back. This is always a very welcome amenity, especially for lady golfers.
Apparently Rhodes Ranch is a sister course to Chimera, which we also really enjoy. If you can play both, I think its a great combination of groomed, gated community lushness vs groomed, gated community out in the desert.

An Almost Perfect Day on the Course

We try to travel to Las Vegas every spring with the goal of playing some great golf after a long Canadian winter. I booked Chimera with GolfNow , HotDeal with a further promo discount.
While the drive from Las Vegas is kind of hum drum and the surrounding area not that appealing, once you pass through the security post into the Tuscany 'enclave' everything is just beautiful.
The greens are so shiny and the colour so intense, you have to look closely to ensure it's real live grass! The course was in amazing shape, not too busy, challenging but not crazy. Only my 2nd game of the vacation and 5+ months since our season here ended and I shot an 88. I was very pleased. The forward tee boxes were as immaculate as the others....I always appreciate that.

A wonderful end to our Vegas adventure!

We had a quick 5 day getaway and played golf 3 days at 3 different courses. Boulder Creek was our last day and by far the best experience. I can't say enough about the condition of the fairways and greens - absolutely amazing. We played the Eagle and Coyote 9's, but the gentleman we were paired with (a local resident) played the El Dorado 9 last week & he said it was in terrible shape, so keep this in mind. After the round, we drove to the Hoover Dam, for some sightseeing - conveniently about 10 minutes away.

Nice course but a bit boring....

We played 3 courses in our recent trip and this was probably my least favourite, but not because there was anything really lacking. The course was in good shape, the staff were very friendly and the scenery was nice. But, the majority of the holes are all very similar - narrow fairways surrounded by traps and scrub with slightly elevated greens. I prefer a variety of holes, with changes in elevation, maybe some water carries and a dog leg or two. I'd recommend Angel Park over Painted Dessert, but only if you love rabbits!
