Enjoyable day on the course

For starters (pardon the pun).... our starter seemed to be the only one interested in good customer service — simply outstanding, very friendly and welcoming. The bag man and pro shop staff were “there “ — not unfriendly, but not welcoming either.

Course was in very good shape, but the greens were on the slow side and a bit rough — part of that reflects the fact we played Kelly Plantation yesterday, and their greens were very fast and impeccably smooth, so the Raven’s green suffered in the comparison — not terrible, just not as good.

Pretty course, with lots of flowers and fancy houses to look at. Water is in play on many holes, but landing areas are certainly big enough that water only penalizes the truly errant shot.

Pace of play, even playing as a twosome at mid-day on. Sunday, was reasonable- we finished 3:45.

Certainly would put it on our list to play again.

Nice course, great staff

EVERYONE we had contact with was very friendly and accomodating!

Course was in good shape for the time of year.. Greens were very fast, but rolled true. Layout is pretty, with a few holes along the bay.

Nothing especially challenging about the course itself, very playable. Most holes “have” water, but it really comes into play on only a few holes. Marsh is the greater challenge, but again, landing areas are generous and only truly poor shots are penalized. Keep it in play and you should score well here.

All in all, a nice place to play on a March get-away from winter.

It is the number one thing for us to treat our very important guest like members for the day. Spending time with our guest and truly getting to know them allows us to give the best service on a personal level. The golf course speaks for its self and we want to make sure the service parallels it. It is very expensive to play golf and we recognize that and we want each patron that chooses to play here to feel that their dollar goes a long way. Thank you for taking your time to tell us about your golf experience, believe me, we are listening. Ashton Crowe P.G.A.

always a great time here

Staff is always friendly and welcoming. Ranger promptly took care of getting us thru a slow foursome who had no clue they were holding up two twosomes and a single behind them. Course is always well kept. Nice player-friendly layout.

Course was in good shape

Course was in good shape. Have played here many times, and that's usually the case.

Pace of play was SLOW -- not by fault of the course, but a slow foursome who were not letting anyone play thru. Idiots!

Nice layout - enjoyable round

We play mostly as a twosome so often get paired up at busy courses. Meet a lot of new people this way, and golfers are generally a friendly type. That was the case today -- had an enjoyable round with a couple who traveled from Germany to play golf in Myrtle Beach. Course was busy and pace of play a bit slow, but diidn't seem so bad with new.friends to visit with.

Greeter/bagman and starter were very friendly, as was the cart lady.

Course was in good condition in spite of some rain the previous day, and some fall maintenance going on -- the crew was doing a great job not intruding on play. Like we've seen on other MB-area courses, there's not a lot of rollout on shots like we're used to up north -- and threre's no running shots up onto the green. So, choose your tee box wisely when you start your round, nd take an extra club to carry onto the greens.

Layout is very fair -- fairways are generous, but it's still important to hit it in the right spots to set up your next shot. No surprises (other than a few on green reads, perhaps!) -- it's all right there in front of you with no blind shots unless you get badly out of place.

Nice finishing par 3 and par 5 on numbers 17 & 18.

Get the yardage/tips book -- play on a dry day

Played the day after a night full of rain, so perceptions may be skewed by the fact that the course was cart paths only -- made for a long day, with all the extra walking and playing out of wet sand traps (of which there were many).

Staff members were VERY friendly and welcoming - and apologetic for the cart path only conditions.

As a first time player here, I wish we had thought to get a yardage and tips booklet. Had a GPS, but it didn't do justice in showing us important areas to hit to and away from -- several holes we would have played totally differently with the benefit of more course knowledge (and several which led enexpectedly big scores on holes). We started on #10, an especially tough beginning hole if you have never played the course -- even more so if it is wet! And, starting on the back nine exposes you to some tough sand conditions early in your round, before you have the chance to settle in. If you have your choice, ask to start on the front nine.

Lots of interesting holes, with both nines having strong and memorable closing holes.
Nice veranda overlooking the 18th green to relax and have a beer, after your round.

Great value course

Arrived to find we were starting behind a traveling group of 52, but not to worry -- pace of play was still OK as we paired up with another twosome. Everyone we had contact with was very friendly and welcoming. Course was a bit wet, so not a lot of roll-out on drives -- keep that in mind when you select the tee box you will play. Water, water everywhere -- on all but one hole, I believe. Again, proper tee box selction, and hitting the ball in the fairway, is important -- but, keep it in play and you'll have fun. Nice variety of holes, and greens and tees were in good shape despite a lot of play that day. Closing couple holes make for a fun finish.

Overall, a GREAT value for a very reasonable green fee!

Decent course, but nothing special

First off, EVERYONE working -- from the greeter/bagman, proshop attendant, starter, to (and especially) the ranger were GREAT. Friendly and very welcoming -- seemed to genuinely appreciate us being there.

Got there early, and starter was very accomodating in getting us off early. Played as a twosome and course was busy, so we expected it to be slow -- but it was REALLY slow. Ranger saw that, saw a gap in the lineup, and moved us from #2 over to #6 where we could play at our own pace -- and encouraged us to not only go finish numbers 3-5 when we got off 18, but to feel free to play 1 and 2 over as well if we wanted to. Eventually, of course, we caught up to some slower groups again, but played a good share of the round at a reasonable pace. He seemed genuinely concerned that we have a good time.

The course, honestly, is nothing special -- don't mean to be too negative, as it's still a good course, but nothing really stands out as memorable. Played their "sister" course (The Witch) a few years ago, and enjoyed that one a lot more. In decent condition, and without surprises -- you can pretty much see what's in front of you. Approaches to the greens were all pretty soft, so take enough club to carry the green -- the ball won't roll up.

Our THANKS to the course staff for making us feel welcome!

good course, terrible pace of play

Played mid-day on a Sunday. early season, so no ranger present -- but course was busy enough there should have been. Course sheet on the cart stated a 2 hour and five minute pace of play was expected. Front nine took 2:25. When we asked about it at the turn, they didn't seem too concerned. Back nine took 2:20 -- for a four hour and forty-five minute round. Expressed our concern in the proshop when we finished, to see if this was unusual (and to gauge whether we should ever come back), and they seemed to think it was no big deal. This course is NOT that difficult! Pace of play was absolutely ridiculous, and no one doing anything about it.

The course itself is very nice -- good layout, very well-maintained (we have played her a couple times before and this was the case, then, too).

Solve the pace of play issue, and it's a fun course -- as it played yesterday, horrendous!

Decent layout, conditions could be better

A nice little layout, but conditioning could be so much better. Tee box grass was longish, grass in fairways was burnt off in MANY places from either too little (or too much) water, or a scalping mower. Starter warned us that greens were extremely fast, but did not find that to be the case -- prettty average, maybe a little on the faster end of the spectrum, but nothing I'd consider "fast". Greens were also a bit beat up from all the foot traffic, and many putts did not roll true because of it.

Played as a twosome on a fairly busy day, but pace of play was good because several groups let us play thru -- and were friendly about it, which isn't always the case, unfortunately.

Unless today was an exception to normal, the course is getting a high enough volume of play (unlike many courses these days) to generate the revenue to keep the course in better playing condition. With several other courses in the same price range in the area, management should take note of this to stay competitive. Played Marengo Ridgejust a week ago, and found it a better value for the money.

Everyone on staffthat we had contact with, though, was very friendly and helpful. We'd play again.

Could be so much better

Don't understand the high ratings from others. Average course, but could be so much better. Greens are slow and rough -- seemed to be soft, so must be getting enough water that they could be cut shorter/better. Sand traps are TERRIBLE -- obviously had been watered and then left to sit -- hard as concrete, and lots of rocks. Good strategic location of the traps -- but if you're not going to invest in manpower to keep them in good playing condition, take out the sand and leave grass bunkers as a hazard.

Nice enough layout, but course condition is rather mediocre. Quite a few blind shots, which could use better directional marking -- perhaps striped posts for 150-yd markers.

nice course in Chicago area

A nice course kept in very good condition. Fun variety of holes. Not especially tough if you hit the ball reasonably straight, as the fairways are generously wide -- though the threesome behind us may not agree as they spent lots of time in the fescue, where the course undoubtedly becomes more challenging. Only negative to our day was the odor from the large landfill immediately adjacent to the course -- though that wasn't too bad because the wind was blowing away from the course and the landfill keeps the trash well-covered with soil.

Great finishing holes on both 9 and 18.
