Azalea Sands Golf Course
Played On 03/07/2023Decent layout for a quick round
As are many Myrtle Beach courses right now, the fairways are pretty sparse. Play winter rules and go on.
LPGA International - Hills Course
Played On 09/28/2017Always A Great Round
I played the Hills course. It's been many years, but this track never disappoints. They were prepping the course for a Symetra Tour event in a week so obviously they have the place in great condition. I got a hot deal at 9:36 am. I got there a bit early and they offered to send me on out. It turned out that I was the first (and only) one out at that time. Needless to say, pace of play was no issue whatsoever!
What a great morning of golf it was. If you're in the Daytona area and want a quality round, LPGA has never disappointed. Getting a hot deal makes it feel like you stole something.
River Bend Golf Club
Played On 09/26/2017Decent Local Play
The course had recovered fairly well from the impact of Hurricane Irma. There were areas of the fairways that were still unplayable, but they were marked well as GUR and I simply moved the ball out to a suitable place. The greens were in good condition and otherwise the fairways were fine. They were out mowing all areas and overall, the course is well managed. The bunkers had been mechanically conditioned and were fairly predictable.
The employees at the course were very friendly and accommodating. My one concern (as has been the case most every time I've played here) is that the locals just aren't in any hurry to get anywhere. So the pace of play suffers. I know this going in and since I'm often playing by myself (I'm visiting from NE Georgia) I usually drop a couple of balls and practice whenever things get slow. If you're looking for a fast paced round, I'm not sure where you'll find it in this area...but it won't likely be at River Bend.
Arrowhead Pointe At Lake Richard B. Russell
Played On 06/16/2015Beautiful Setting for Golf
Arrowhead Point is built within the State park and there are virtually no structures visible when on the course. Many holes are built beside or over Lake Russell and provide great views. Again, Lake Russell has no homes visible from the water, and docks are not allowed so it is a pristine environment. Boat sightings are minimal if at all.
The course takes good advantage of the lake area topography without being gimmicky. There are several holes that play longer than their yardage would indicate because of multiple turns of the fairway. Overall, this is a very fair, shot makers course with plenty of eye candy to keep you engaged.
We try to get over to Arrowhead Point two or three times a year as a refreshing break from our routine. It's an hour drive, but worth the trip.
