Its the value

Where else will you get to play with a cart for $40 or less. The tee boxes are lumpy, fairways are bare in a lot of areas, but the greens are ok. Staff is friendly and helpful.

Unheard of

I was shocked when i went to pay my green fee. First, they give a senior discount, second, they lowered the overall greens fee because they had aerated the greens about a month ago. Unfortunately, some of the greens, most actually, had developed a fungus so they were pretty slow, bald and bumpy. Only 1 fairway was just aerated and they were doing more in advance of the upcoming rain.

I have never heard of a course discounting because of aeration. Most of the time, they dont even say anything and you find out when you're on the course, which is shiesty. I appreciated that discount.

The day was beautiful. Sunny and barely any wind. A great day of golf.

A double bogie

I played this course back in the late 90's when it was still only 9 holes and you would have to play it twice to get in 18. Then i saw it grow into a beautiful 18 hole championship course with lush fairways and smooth, quick greens. Then 9 additional holes were added and a 27 hole layout was born.
Now, the fairways have bare patches and the tee boxes barely have grass. The greens were bumpy and a few of the greens had mini craters on them.
The starter doubled as the cart and range ball person. No beverage cart during the week, as i was told before my round, so stock up before heading out onto the course. Water jugs were not found until the second 9 (Hillside). In fact, besides the starter and when we returned the carts, i never saw another employee or marshall. My cart had a hole in the floor board and if the accelerator was pressed too far, it would get stuck. Then i would have to lean down, while the cart is at full speed, and pull the pedal out of the hole. I thought i was going into the water or into a tree a few times.
I was wondering why the green fee was so low. I had a feeling, but decided to play anyway. Who can pass up $15 for 18 holes with a cart?
The pace of place was really nice, but only because there weren't many groups playing. None of us are really good golfers, we are hacks, so we still enjoyed our time out there and had fun. For the price, you aren't going to get a lot, so don't expect a lot.

Still better than your best day of work

I played absolutely horrible. I try to get to any course i play, at least a half hour before my tee time. I like to hit balls, putt and chip around, warm up and let loose of any anxiety i may have. I arrived 35 minutes before my tee time and before i knew it, i was standing on the first tee, trying to loosen up after a 25 min. drive. My swing is fickle so i use the warm up time to try and dial it in. Mind you, i let the starter bump me ahead of my time. I wont let that happen again, ever.

The windy conditions and first time seeing this course, never allowed me to relax. The course was beautiful, with some scenic views and a bell on the 12th hole fairway. You ring the bell after your approach shot to let others on the tee box it is safe for them to hit. Pretty cool. Lots of undulations, fitting for a dunes course, the greens were firm but slow and there seemed to be a lot lot of sand as if they had just aerated. So even if i saw a break, the sand kept the ball straight and according to the starters, there isnt any definite breaks on the greens (toward ocean or mountains), so it is guess and hit. There also seemed to be patches of what looked like crab grass on the greens.

The water jugs on the course were far and few in between, and when we did find one, they were empty. We couldnt believe it! Yes, the tradewinds were blowing and keeping the temps mild, however, it was still warm and humid, with no water to fill our water bottles. A huge minus in my book.

When i return to maui, would i play this course again? It would have to take them paying ME to play. I played 2 other courses inside of a week and i would def play those others before coming back to Maui Lani. My money and time are too important for me to give a course "another" chance. First impressions, first impressions, first impressions...

A day in the wind

It was a windy day at Kahili, but I was lucky to be paired with Steve, who had played the course many times. I don't normaly like playing in the wind, because i hit a high ball and it can get knocked down in a head wind. Steve helped me maneuver the course and the wind didn't affect me that much. Our foursome had a good time and the greens were pretty tough to read and putt on. I would really like to play this course again, someday. I recommend others to try it. Staff was helpful and professional as well as courteous.

A beautiful layout

I thought the course was beautifully laid-out. The fairways were just wide enough. The kukua grass helped the ball sit high for approach shots when i was lucky enough to be in the fairway (better lucky than good, huh?). Holes had many elevations, so u have to choose the right club for the uphill or downhill lies. Par 3's were not difficult. Good scoring course. I would play the course again.
