Great Eagle Golf Club
Played On 3/26/2013Not Pristine
I played this course because the reviews I read indicated that the couse was in pristine condition. There is no way that I would say that this course is pristine, but I should have known that by the price. So the course is maintained, but nothing special. $45 is a fair value for weekday golf, but it isn't a special bargin. The greens and fairways are good. the rough and sand traps are fair. The food values are good, but there wasn't anything out on the course.
Wigwam Resort - Blue Course
Played On 3/22/2013Blue course is good for the average golfer.
Other than on one short par three, the greens were good. The fairways were very good and firm for good distance. The sand traps do need more sand.
The course is pretty open and forgiving other than the two short par threes with island type features.
Over all a very enjoyable round.
Union Hills Golf & Country Club
Played On 3/19/2013$45 was the right price.
Good greens. Fairways were good even if the grass was one notch too long. Rough was not irrigated so for the best distance hit just off of the fairway. Traps were hard and needed sand. A good value for the money.
Rancho Bernardo Inn
Played On 2/27/2013Well Maintained value
Got a special aerification rate so we knew the conditions before we got there. But all in all the course is in good condition. It is obvious that a lot of work is being done in order to bring this great course back. They have redone some of the irrigation and improved some of the bunkers. (More bunker work is still needed.) But this is a nice layout with great staff and one of my favorite courses.
Twin Oaks Golf Course
Played On 2/22/2013Nice challenge for the right price.
Not pristine, but slightly above average in condition and challenge. My only concern was that it was cart path only which slows down the pace of play. At $35 it is a good play. At $60 it would not be a good value for me.
Welk Resort San Diego - Fountains Executive Course
Played On 2/20/2013Fun
This is a fun executive course where most golfers can pull out the big dog on several holes or layup and hit a pitching wedge. Play is a little slow due to the nature of the course where you need to wait for the group ahead to leave the green before teeing up. But if you can get a deal on the price it is a great value. (We played for $10 each includung a cart which is a lot more fun than going to a driving range.)
CrossCreek Golf Club
Played On 2/15/2013Hard greens & slow play
The fairways are good and frequently challenging, but the greens were very difficult. A lofted wedge shot to the middle would roll off the back. So you need to hit short and bump it up, but then would unpredictable bounces. The greens were fast & several holes were on ridges or slopes so missed putts ran far past the hole.
Our t-time was at 11:10 & we got off of the 18th green at 4:35. It was over booked and a majority of holes were cart path only for no apparent reason.
Mt. Woodson Golf Club
Played On 2/8/2013Very scenic - good challenge
Not long, but hills make up for that. Kiss your ball goodbye if you miss the fairways. Good greens, average fairways and traps. Above average views. Worth the drive.
Miramar Memorial Golf Course
Played On 1/18/2013Long and flat
The greens are very good. While sometimes sloped they are moderate in speed and difficulty. The course is flat and rather featureless. There is some water and some sand, but except for a couple of holes they were not a factor and easy to advoid. To make up for the relative flatness the course is moderately long from the white tees. While the first couple of holes were approximately 380 yds par 4s, the last two were 430 yds par 4s and there was one par 5 that was approximately 550 yards. Even with good ball roll it would take my best shots to reach these greens in regulation.
The marshalls did work with the group that was having difficulty in order to keep the pace reasonable.
Overall friendly, average value that was interesting to play, but does not beg one to come back time and again.
Creek/Oaks at Temecula Creek Inn Golf Resort
Played On 12/4/2012This is an above average course and a very good value for $35.
Played Creek-Oaks. Nice, but nothing exceptional. Played Stone in the past and it is a little kinky as there are shots where you cannot see where you are hitting to and severe slopes that cause your ball to run into trouble.
