Deltona Club
Played On 07/21/2020Challenging Course with Elevation Changes
Lots of sand -- both greenside and fairway bunkers. This course had uncharacteristic elevation changes for a Florida layout, which made it more interesting. Bermuda greens were firm and fast. Enjoyed this track and will play it again when I'm in the Daytona Beach area.
New Smyrna Golf Club
Played On 07/20/2020No Frills Donald Ross Design
Flat terrain, classic elevated Ross greens. We played on a weekday and were finished with 18 holes in just over 3 hours. Friendly staff.
LPGA International - Hills Course
Played On 07/19/2020Extremely Challenging Golf Course
The Hills Course at LPGA has relatively generous fairways, but if you do hit it off line, your ball is most likely lost. There were several forced carries over marsh and/or swampy areas that are a golf ball graveyard.
We saw three (3) snakes during our round -- two of them next to the tee box.
The course condition is excellent; plush fairways, firm and fast greens. We played as a twosome and finished our round in just over three hours.
I hope to be able to play the Jones Course at LPGA the next time I'm in Daytona Beach.
White Plains Golf Course
Played On 04/18/2020Scenic, Quirky, Fun Course
The fairways are Bermuda grass and were just beginning to come out of their winter dormancy. The bent grass greens had recently been aerified, but were in good shape.
The clubhouse was closed due to COVID-19 precautions, but food and beverage could be purchased through the pro shop window.
The only complaint was pace of play. A ranger was present and kept things moving on the front nine, but he was nowhere to be seen on the back nine. We ended up behind a drunk threesome on the 16th hole; it took 50 minutes to play 16, 17 and 18. When we asked one player to get off of his cell phone and play golf, he fired back with a series of threats and F-bombs. Cooler heads eventually prevailed.
I that's all I've got to say about that.
Oak Hills Golf Course
Played On 04/16/2020Oak Hills Continues to Improve
The greens were aerified a few weeks ago and have come in nicely. The Bermuda grass fairways are a few weeks away from being plush.
The ownership of this course has poured some $$ into making this course better. A few trees have been cut down on holes 17 and 18 to make them more playable. Numerous tee boxes have been sodded and are looking good.
I enjoy this course because it has a laid-back feel and is tranquil. The people who work here are very friendly. I'll be back numerous times this year.
Riverside Golf Center - Farm Lakes Course
Played On 10/12/2019Much Improved!
New ownership has had a lot of work put into this golf course. The greens held up during the summer, and have recently been aerated. Bunkers have been repaired and are full of new white sand. Hole #6 was sodded with Bermuda grass. The biggest improvement visually, however, is the work done to the trees and shrubs. Most low-hanging branches have been cut away from the trees bordering the fairways. This also makes it easier to recover if you hit a stray drive. Huge difference between October of 2018 and now.
Lake Tansi Resort
Played On 09/28/2019Challenging, Scenic Golf Course
The members of this retirement community golf course take pride in their facility. The course was well-manicured, and there were very few unrepaired ball marks on the greens (a rarity these days). Lake Tansi has a full-course irrigation system and they use it. I played in the middle of a mini-drought and the fairways and greens were still plush.
The pace of play was pretty good; I played as a single and was able to play through a couple of foursomes, finishing in just over 3 hours.
Tennessee Tech Golden Eagle Golf Club
Played On 09/14/2019Fun Course, Greens in Good Shape
I played this course in the middle of a mini-drought, so the fairways were hard. The lies were generally good, however, and the greens were in good condition.
This is a moderately challenging course that is fun to play. Several birdie opportunities, but some tough holes as well (#4, 8, 12 are strong par-4s).
Pace of play was great -- 18 holes in 3 hours flat.
The pro shop and snack bar were stocked sparingly; not much to offer.
Nashville National Golf Links
Played On 09/07/2019Excellent Course, but bring a Novel to Read while you wait
This course was in very good condition. The fairways are zoysia grass and were lush. The greens are MiniVerde Bermuda grass, and while a little slick and crusty, putted true.
The course is not very long, but you must hit the ball straight. When I play it again, I'll use a long- to medium-iron off the tee for several of the par 4s.
The only real complaint here is the pace of play. We waited on every tee box to hit. ALL 18 holes. Took us 4 hours, 50 minutes to finish our round. In some instances, two groups were on the tee box waiting to play.
I'll play this course again, and hopefully they will have a ranger keeping the play moving.
The Golf Club of Quincy
Played On 08/29/2019Nice Course Off the Beaten Path
Bermuda greens, Bermuda fairways, well manicured. Pace of play was very fast until the high schoolers showed up to play a match; everyone else had to go to the back nine. I had the course to myself prior to that.
Nice elevation changes to this track, atypical for most Florida courses. I recommend this course.
Smithville Golf Club
Played On 08/17/2019Quiet Golf in the Country
Simple, rural layout. The course was pretty well maintained; the fairway grass (combination of Bermuda, crabgrass, fescue, etc.) is identical to the rough, but mown closer. Pace of play was great -- course was not crowded.
This is a 9-hole track, so you play it twice to complete your round.
The pro shop had a very limited offering of food and beverage. It was more like a snack bar. And they didn't have any ice, nor do they sell beer.
Not a course I would play a lot, but it was nice to get away from the city and enjoy a laid-back round of golf.
Pine Creek Golf Course
Played On 08/03/2019Quiet, Scenic Course
I've played this course several times through the years. The bentgrass greens were in good condition and have weathered the hot temperatures well. I was disappointed by the number of unrepaired ball marks, however. This isn't the course's fault; it just seems most Middle TN golfers don't bother to repair their marks.
We played our round in 4 hours, 10 minutes. This is not bad, but would have been 30 to 40 minutes quicker had a foursome let us play through (I played in a twosome).
The course was in generally good condition except for the sand traps. It appears they are giving up on them -- most of the sand was washed out and it looked like they haven't been groomed in months.
Riverside Golf Center - Farm Lakes Course
Played On 07/27/2019Riverside Continues to Improve
I play this course several times a month, and the new ownership has made great strides to improve the condition of the course. The difference between now and 12 months ago is remarkable. The bent grass greens are in much better shape and are holding up well in the summer heat. Numerous trees have been cut down or trimmed, making the course look much neater. Hole #6 was closed due to the laying of new sod, but this hole will be plush in a week or two.
I would recommend that you give this course a try if you haven't already.
Kenny Perry's Country Creek Golf Course
Played On 07/24/2019KPCC is a Must-Play
One of the most enjoyable rounds of golf I've played in a long time. The weather and pace of play were perfect.
There are two holes -- #12, 13 -- along the creek that have a few bare spots on the fairways, but the other 16 holes are plush. The greens are soft and receptive. The staff here is always friendly.
Drove from Nashville to play, and I'll definitely be back.
Nashboro Golf Club
Played On 06/15/2019Firm, Fast Greens
Nashboro G.C. switched from bentgrass to miniverde grass on their greens a few years ago, and they are challenging. Very firm and fast, but true. If you like slick, smooth greens, you will like NGC.
The course from tee to green was not in its typical good shape. The edges of several fairways were bare, and they had been chewed up by aerification equipment. A little rain over the next few weeks should bring them back to life.
We appreciate you leaving us a review on Golf Advisor, Shrag. We're working hard to keep the course in top condition, so be sure to book another round with us in the coming weeks to see the results firsthand!
Oak Hills Golf Course
Played On 05/27/2019Oak Hills is Making Improvements
This course has made numerous improvements in the 30 days since I last played it. Several tee boxes have been sodded and are taking shape. Only one green has any trouble spots (#12); the other 17 are full and putting well.
I'm pleased with the efforts being put forth to make this course better, and I'll be back.
Kenny Perry's Country Creek Golf Course
Played On 05/26/2019Grip It and Rip It
My second time to play this course, and it did not disappoint. Generous fairways and soft, receptive greens. There were a few bare spots on the fairways due to the recent lack of rain (holes #12, 13), but generally the course is in good shape. My playing partner and I finished our round in 3 hours due to the course not being crowded on a hot afternoon. I'll play it again.
Oak Hills Golf Course
Played On 04/27/2019Good Greens, Fairways need some work
I have played this course several times. The pace of play is usually very good, but today it was a bit slow. Took us 4 hours, 25 minutes to finish.
There are several fairways that need some work. It was good to see the fairway on hole #6 roped off to keep the carts on the path. This will give the grass a chance to grow. Some sprigging / planting is also needed on holes 10 and 18.
Work is underway on several tee boxes. Looking forward to getting back on the regular tee boxes in a few weeks.
As the course name suggests, this course is hilly. Every par-4 and par-5 has elevation changes, some significant.
I will play this course again, but will wait until late May when the grass has come in a bit better.
Hi, thank you for reviewing the course. Let us first start by apologizing for the delay of play during your round. This is by no means the standard we strive to achieve. We are going to escalate your feedback to our team so we can make improvements before your next game. We are glad to see you noticed the work we are putting in to the conditions and appreciate your patience while we get everything up to par. We will continue to work towards an excellent experience by using your comment for guidance. Thank you for playing Oak Hills Golf Course. We hope to see you again soon.
Glen Abbey Golf Club
Played On 03/06/2019Glen Abbey, aka "The Swallows"
I played this course a long time ago before the houses were built alongside it. With the exception of a couple holes (#15 comes to mind), the greens were in excellent shape. The fairway grass was thin, as is to be expected at winter's end, so the lies were pretty tight.
I had to skip a hole to get around a very slow foursome, so I only got in 17 holes before darkness. Other than that one encounter, the pace of play was very good.
Glenlakes Golf Club - Vista/Dunes Course
Played On 10/09/2018Vista -- Fun; Dunes -- Tough!
I played the Vista-Dunes nines. This course is in excellent shape. I found the Vista 9 to be the more enjoyable of the two nines; the Dunes has a couple of holes that I simply don't have the game for (#3, a long par-3, and #5, a killer par-4).
The Vista nine mostly winds through a wooded area, but the fairways are generous. The Dunes nine starts and ends with holes that are links-style, but holes 4, 5 and 6 feature wooded areas and elevation changes not usually seen in southern Alabama.
I thoroughly enjoyed this course, I'll just play the shorter tees on the Dunes next time.
We want to thank you for your positive feedback on the course. Our staff works hard every day to make Oak Hills GC better and continues to make it enjoyable for everyone. Come back and see us again.
