Lake Jovita Golf & Country Club - South Course
Played On 03/24/2020As always, Excellent Condition
Played the South course again. As usual, course is in excellent condition. Greens held shots and were fast.
For those who've never played it, this is a course in central Florida with "real" hills. (Not a couple of dump truck loads of dirt which are then called hills.) Very scenic...lots of people enjoy the views on this course.
Due to coronavirus time, no rakes in traps and a few other things. My rating of off course amenities is due to the restaurant closed for the time being.
The Club at Eaglebrooke
Played On 01/14/2020Greens Slower Than in Previous Visits
I really like this course as it's typically well maintained, staff are very friendly, and has a good layout.
Today, the greens were abnormally slow especially a couple on the back nine. Didn't appear to be problems with the greens just slow.
Last two holes are great finishing holes and are very scenic. Not sure any two better finishing holes in the greater Tampa area.
Northdale Golf Club
Played On 01/08/2020Good layout and fast round
Played on a Wednesday late morning...played in a little over 3 hours.
Greens had recently been aerated with the very small tines and fertilized. For the most part greens were smooth and quick. Not as fast as usual.
Course has a nice layout. Mostly flat with minimal uphill in a few locations. This is not a course for a beginner as there's enough water and bunkers to wreak havoc for a beginner.
Heritage Isles Golf and Country Club
Played On 12/12/2019Good Conditions, Fast Play
We happened to play when almost no one else was starting around our time and we (twosome) played in less than 3 hours. Fairways, rough, etc. is in good condition. Greens were very fast.
Only issue was with a few greens. Too many weeds and/or big sanded areas but it was spotty even on those greens affected. Shouldn't deter you from playing.
If you playing for the first time, check the scorecard for distances. For example, the four par 3's from the blue tees played anywhere from 185 to 200 yards today. Much shorter from the white tees on the par 3's.
Not a hilly course there's enough small contours that you have non-flat lies often.
Thank you for taking the time to review us. Your feedback is valuable, and we look forward to delivering you excellent service again soon. Heritage Isles Golf and Country Club thanks you!
Pebble Creek Golf Club
Played On 11/29/2019Average Condition and Slow Play....Not Typical Here
It seems like the day after Thanksgiving always has slow play regardless of the course....almost 5 hours today.
Course conditions were not good. Picked up lots of mud on shots in the fairway and reduced roll. Greens were soft and with heavy traffic, our last nine holes showed numerous spike marks, foot drags, etc. and overall greens didn't roll well.
I've played this course since the mid 80's and neither of the above is the norm. I'll definitely go back.
I will go back as the course is worth the cost. A good layout with enough challenges for most people. Food is good at Mulligans.
Lake Jovita Golf & Country Club - North Course
Played On 11/26/2019Everything Was Perfect
Played the North course and it's in great shape. Rye has come in well in the fairways. Greens are very fast and rolling well. I've played this course at least 50 times and this is the best overall condition I've experienced here. Compares very favorably, if not better, than all the other high end courses in the area.
If you've never played here, not your typically flat course as is the norm in the Tampa area. Lots of rolling hills (small), non-flat lies. Depending on pin locations, can have upwards of 8-10 foot breaks on putts.
Dunedin Golf Club
Played On 11/24/2019Wet Conditions On Difficult Course
Overnight it had rained a couple of inches and more than half the holes were cart path only. Not much roll in most places. Pace of play was a little slower than normal...slightly over 4 hours.
Greens were fast. Don't leave the ball above the hole especially on this course.
Donald Ross design and know that this course hosted numerous PGA tournaments. Will give many people a good challenge. I always like Don Ross courses.
Diamond Hill Golf & Country Club
Played On 11/20/2019Good Layout in Good Condition
For the Tampa area this is a very hilly course...nice change of pace. It's certainly challenging with no short par 3's and a 600 yard par 5 (white tees). Has one of the most scenic par 3's (#15). Regardless what tee box you play, play #15 from the top of the hill.
Greens were very quick and rolled well.
Silverado Golf & Country Club
Played On 11/16/2019Good Layout but at It's Best Condition
I've seen this course in better condition but it's likely due to wet weather. Had quite a number of instances where mud was on the ball. Greens were pretty slow and didn't roll all that well. Greens are usually better here.
Do like the layout as it offers challenges without being impossible. Greens have breaks but not ridiculous. First time player shouldn't have trouble reading the greens. And we always seem to be able play under 4 hours...teed off at 11 and the weekend.
Will definitely be back soon.
Lake Jovita Golf & Country Club - South Course
Played On 11/04/2019One of My Favorite Courses in This Area
This is a scenic course with a good layout. One par 5 has an elevation drop of 90 ft from tee to green.
Greens were fast and rolled well which makes them very difficult. First time players will have trouble reading the big breaks on some putts. Generally, very large greens.
Tees and fairways were overseeded recently and carts were restricted to rough only. Lots of mud on the ball. This will change within a week or so.
Traps need sand and work....holdover from summer rainy season? I've played this course frequently in the past 10 years this may be the worst I've seen the traps....okay just don't hit in the traps:)
Links of Lake Bernadette
Played On 11/02/2019Bernadette In Good Condition
Bernadette was in good condition the day we played. A couple of fairways were still wet and cart path only but not severe. Will probable dry up in a week at most.
Greens were in good shape, rolled well, albeit probably a little slower than other courses in the area.
All areas were cut and the rough was an easily playable length.
We enjoy the layout and it can play harder than one expects based on the total length.
Northdale Golf Club
Played On 10/29/2019Nice Course Generally with Quick/Smooth Greens
This course has good variance on distance to par 3's, par 4's and 5's. Some water, some fairway bunkers, trees in play. Greens have undulations, one to two are extreme depending on pin location.
Fairways were a little soft due to recent rains but were cut as well as the rough. Not much sand in the traps.
Greens had just been fertilized with the tiny granules. But overall were still quick and rolled smoothly...biggest problem on the greens were a couple of foot draggers somewhere up ahead of us.
Pebble Creek Golf Club
Played On 10/26/2019Pebble Creek in Good Condition
Hadn't played here in a few month and found the course in good condition. Good grass in the fairways and rough was cut to reasonable height. Greens were a little slow but rolled pretty well. Unfortunately, had a couple of foot draggers and lots of spikes marks but those were easy to find and tamp down (now legal with the 2019 rules...smile). Played in 3 hours starting around noon.
Bear's Best Atlanta
Played On 05/09/2018Great Course with Lots of Challenges
Really enjoyed playing this course. Was able to recognize a couple of the holes from images of tournaments on TV. My rating of "Good" was due to a recent aeration and the greens had not fully recovered.....suspect it would have excellent otherwise.
The short par 4's certainly put a premium on getting the ball in the fairway. Need to pay a lot of attention to the slope of the fairways as the ball will roll off the fairway.
Par 5' were relatively wide open off the tee....thought that was interesting.
Don't be short going into a green. Greens were well protected especially in the front.
Pebble Creek Golf Club
Played On 04/12/2018Course in Good Condition and Perfect Weather
Nothing could have been better. Course was in good condition and the weather was perfect. Moderate number of golfers and played in slightly over 3 hours....early afternoon start.
Have always enjoyed the layout of the course. All levels of par 4's....short, moderate, long with varying obstacles...doglegs, traps, water, etc.. Par 3''s are not extremely long but nothing less than 140 yards (I play the white tees). Really good, challenging finishing holes on each side.
Terrace Hill Golf Club
Played On 12/30/2017Good 9 Hole Course
This is more than just a par 3 course. Has 3 par4's, albeit short, but also 2 lengthy par3's. Some elevation changes and on 2 of the par 4's, you'll likely have some sort of sidehill lie for your second shot.
Winter grass has come in and the greens were a bit slow but rolled smoothly.
New sand in the bunkers .
Have a great practice green strictly for chips and pitches....can hit pitches up to about 50 yards to a two tiered green.
Terrace Hill Golf Club
Played On 03/08/2017Great Nine Hole Course
This is a great 9 hold course ( 3 par4's and 6 par 3's). Good mix of par 3's ranging from 80-90 yds to 190 yds from the white tees. Some minimal elevation changes so it's not "pancake" flat.
Par 4's allow me to hit driver.
Very large greens and have some slopes on most.
Esplanade Golf & Country Club at Lakewood Ranch
Played On 07/26/2016Fun Course
Green aeration was almost back to normal and a few small bumps results. Otherwise course was in excellent condition.
Generally wide fairways make it easy off the tee but the par 5's tend to get very narrow on the second shot.
Excellent practice area...and balls are still free...hurrah!
Greens are undulating but fair.
Papabear,
Thank you for the great review. Esplanade is a great course designed to be very fun yet still a challenge. Great course and great times! We look forward to seeing you again soon.
Best,

Narrow Course in Need of Maintenance
Unfortunately, I played at a time when the course is in need of maintenance. Tees and fairways were dry. Fairways were sparse on grass in locations. Greens had been recently aerated (small tines) but need water and at least a couple of weeks to recover. Greens were slow. Had played this course before and it was in much better condition.
Overall, the course is narrow and the greens are small. Not a long course so should make an effort to keep the ball playable off the tee rather than hit a huge drive. Review hole layout at the tee as water is not always visible from tee or fairway.
It's a decent layout and I'll play again but only if I know the course conditions have been greatly improved.
18th hole is an excellent golf hole and finishing hole.
University of South Florida Golf Course - The Claw
Played On 01/26/2015The Claw is in Great Shape....What it Was 15-20 Years Ago
The Claw is defintely challenging. Narrow fairways with lots of trees, some water. Greens are generally very elevated, not huge, and right now are fast but a lofted ball will stick.
Course is in excellent condition. Back to the condition of many years ago, both fairways and greens. Hurrah!
Lots of diverse wildlife including a couple of huge gators.
Note: It rained the night before and there were some muddy spots....otherwise my course condition rating would have been excellent.
Thank you for taking the time to review our facility. Over the last couple of weeks, the greens have gained some speed. We hope to see you back soon!
