One of the best courses in Hilton Head

Cannot say enough positive things about this course. Staff was super friendly, pace of play was great (3:40 round), conditions superb, and just a beautiful course. Have played probably every course on Hilton Head (other than Long Cove and Harbour Town) and would rank this the best. They keep the course in great condition, the layout is straight forward but challenging, and the terrain/flora and fauna were a visual treat. Would highly recommend this course be added as a must play when visiting Hilton Head.

Nice course, worth playing

Course was in good shape. The greens are probably the best aspect of this course. Almost every green is tiered, which makes for some challenging and fun putts. The greens were fast and rolled true. The layout is kind of typical Hilton Head, a bit of sameness to many of the holes, but there were a few standouts. If you stay in the fairway, not particularly difficult, but there are quite a few long par4's which is nice. Overall, worth playing when visiting the island.

Good course, but nothing special

Frankly, the experience at Oyster Reef was a bit underwhelming; but perhaps I was expecting too much. There is nothing bad about the course and nothing great, in fact that is the problem, it is just rather mediocre. Only one hole provided an ocean view, the par 3 sixth hole. But admittedly, it is a stunningly beautiful hole with an old live oak behind the green silhouetted against the ocean. This hole alone made me consider giving the course a 4-star rating, but alas, that was not enough. The rest of the course plays among houses and pine tree lined fairways. The greens were the biggest disappointment. Quite slow and a bit shaggy. The fairways are fairly wide (and in very good condition), so you can use driver on most every hole. The layout is pretty straight forward, no real blind shots so you can see the hole just fine from the tee box. The staff were friendly upon arrival, but it was unfortunate there was not a marshall to be seen once on the course. The group in front of us were incredibly slow, two holes behind the group in front of them after just 3 holes, and no one to speed them up. The result was a fairly slow round. Speaking of on-course staff, we saw the beverage cart just once during our 5 hour round, and that was on the 2nd hole! Overall, no real big complaints, but nothing special either. Generally muni-type conditions and services in a resort location. But then again, for the price ($63), I probably should have not been expecting more. A good value, but not the experience I was looking for in Hilton Head golf.
