Las Vegas National Golf Course
Played On 04/01/2017Greens were the silver lining to otherwise disappointing experience
The attraction of playing here waa to take in the history of this old-school course, and that did not disappoint. However, if this course were anywhere else, it would cost $40 to play, not $99. The overall conditions were just average. Beware of the bunkers, many are not raked, and they are extremely inconsistent, most are hard pan with very little sand. Then some have a lot of sand, which is really more like crushed rock. Don't take your gamers there if you don't want to scuff them up.
The pace of play was poor, tee boxes sometimes had 2 groups waiting. I would not return to play here given the chance.
Dale Hollow Lake Golf Course
Played On 06/21/2015Scenic but green speeds were excruciatingly slow
The course could be really nice. The zoysia fairways are awesome. I played on June 21st and the temps were in low 90's. Understanding the greens are bent grass (and that bentgrass is not the most heat tolerant grass); but, they have bentgrass greens as far south as Macon, GA. These were the slowest greens I've ever putted. By my estimations, they rolled at about an 7.5 - 8 on the stimp meter. They simply don't cut them low enough; they had plenty of grass on them. At the very least, the could be rolled to make them more of an average speed. I know they've gotten a lot of rain; so, I'll give this course a pass on the bunkers as they were all either under repair or washed out. I would hope the greens roll a lot better in the fall, winter, and spring.
