Sad to see the continued downturn

Had not played Ridgeview for about 9 months due to prior poor conditions. Basically, the greens are unplayable. Every putt on every green is bounced offline by Poa Annua that has taken root throughout the Bermuda surfaces. You cannot get a decent roll. The condition of the rest of the course is below average for this time of year, with many bare spots, drainage issues and weeds throughout. CBIGG (the owners) continue to avoid investing in basic agronomy maintenance it appears. I have played this great public layout for close to 30 years and it has never been in worse condition. A sad commentary on where public golf is today. But hey, all the new golfers that have come into the game during COVID accept this as tee sheets continue to be close to full and rates continue to rise. If you need a place outside to drink and smoke cigars for 4 hours, I guess you could do worse. If you want a real golf course to play, find somewhere else.

Hi. Thank you for reviewing the course. Let us first start by apologizing for the poor experience you had during your visit. Your feedback about the course is important to us. We are working to get everything up to par. We have projects ongoing to recover the fairways and greens. The current condition is by no means the standard we strive to achieve. We are going to escalate your feedback to our team so we can make improvements before your next game, and we will continue to work towards an excellent experience by using your comment for guidance. Thank you for playing Ridgeview Ranch Golf Club. We hope to see you again soon.

Ridgeview Continues to Decline

Played it recently hoping to see improvement after avoiding it for the past few years due to poor conditions. I have played rounds every 4-5 months in the last 4 years too, but have played Ridgeview 100s of times since it opened in Plano in '97. Historically, it was one of the best values in the Metroplex and it's greens consistently very good to great. This all held til the last 3-4 years. For the most part, the greens have been close to unplayable for that period of time. First, it was some sort of sedge issue. Now it is thousands of poa annua clumps. You won't get a smooth putt on a single green. This is all the result of a failure by the greens staff to spend for proper preventative maintenance each of the last few years. This smells a lot like cost cutting by the ownership group (CBIGG). Add that to the fact that their so called "bunker renovation project" included removing at least 30-40 existing bunkers, many of which were key and strategic to the layout, and you end up with what those of us who have played for years refer to as a goat ranch. Jeff Brauer did an incredible job on this tract of land, part of which was on or adjacent to an old Plano dump at the time. I believe he would be appalled at what CBIGG have done to one of his first designs. All in the name of "cost savings". Meanwhile, rates have gone up, tee sheets have never been more packed, and revenues are flowing like they haven't in years due to to the "COVID effect" bringing 1000s of new golfers to the game. But hey, you can have fun with Top Tracer on the range, off mats that also need to be replaced.
. And there are a couple of new flat screens in the dining area. Bottom line- If you expect your $60-70 to include a golf course in good shape, find another tract for now.

Lost Greens

Rating based on this round alone. Greens are terrible right now. Told that they had a "nematode issue". Sad, as they had redone them in the last few years. This is a solid layout by Palmer with a good clubhouse and friendly staff. If you value the entire playing experience, wait until the greens come back and then give it shot.
