The Winter crowds are gone and locals like me can enjoy the great golf courses nearby.
Of course the Westin brand will say a lot so my neighbor and I had a good day. I just wish we played better. Getting older is no fun but everyone can still appreciate the quality of the people and this golf course.

Now the East Cape is becoming the land of the Uber rich...Mexico has the biggest gap between local life and developments like Puerto Los Cabo....

When you visit remember to tip the help generously. Even visit the church in San Jose del Cabo and add to their mission...

It's hard to think how far $1,000 usd goes locally compared to $200 dinners for two at any resort community...

Eaglecrest is one of the most naturally Lush courses I have played but Mother Nature has not been kind by providing us more rain. the course is covered with mature trees that offer plentiful shade and beautiful settings.

As previously described the greens were perfect tee boxes were fine but in between the lack of water is evident. I play unlimited Mulligan's when alone for fitness and if you play Super winter rules allowing you to move the ball up to 10 ft you should have a great time.

I have played many courses throughout Southern California and find that if you're too picky you're never going to be happy. The course should invest in more white sand to fill the remainder of the bunkers but other than that everybody could enjoy this place.

A little help from Mother Nature would make this place shine....and fill in or clear out the giant Reed Bunker on the back nine where three 250 drives couldn't stay in the the fairway...Thanks I will be back.

I had fun finding a great price to this course which I enjoyed in the past. The rain had stopped after three days and the course was not flooded.

The resort and buildings are showing their age so don't expect too much and you will have fun as well. Greens were in better shape than the fairways and sand was hardened by the rain.

The local folks play here a lot and I met one who was a fine player....he knew everybody and that made for a pleasant day.

I would say there are courses nearby that are far inferior like Castle Creek. Fallbrook CC and Reidy Creek so try Pala Mesa. When a few nearby actually closed it shows the market has shrunken, so try for the best price on GolfNow.

The Valley and Palms courses were both open and not undergoing aeration yet.

The weather is still warm for locals hot for visitors....clouds kept it under 100 for me.

Greens were in very good condition versus Shadow Ridge where I played about a week ago.

Shadow Ridge is newer and more a modern tract with tougher situations including the greens.

Hospitality was at its highest and the starter John has always been gracious to me every time I played here.

Enjoy the over the top water hazards which are a part of the resort decor....including the flamingos.

Have fun and play at your pace while most stay away....

Playing golf anywhere in August is very difficult in Palm Desert it is dangerous....Bring two water bottles and fill them at least five times each round... They provided a towel that should be soaked and worn around the back of your neck tucked in at the collar... Rest in the plentiful shade.
Use a ball retriever when searching in the brush for your ball....anything that moves will move before you are too close.... The fairways were in great shape but the greens were under dressing....I play two to three shots each time so after making about 150 swings you need a rest...I let two 20 somethings who hit from the black tees pass me and they were very courteous....people in the desert off season seem to be extremely polite, including the staff here....Enjoy

Many courses in the Palm Desert area are going through the worst drought in California's history. I have played about ten of them....this course is one of the best and would be worth four times what I paid if it was winter. So if you look past the bare spots and tight lies the greens and traps were in excellent condition. Play winter rules in the fairways and even the rough....enjoy yourself and don't tell too many folks so I can still get on first thing in the morning and have a great round with friends....

La Quinta is an area of the valley very close to the mountains...or tall rocky hills for those of you from Colorado. The course can be beautiful and tough if you play from the back tees. Greens needed water as all of the desert does.

The lack of water and the canal must have spawned the insects which rarely are an issue in the desert. they didn't bite only annoyed what could have been an excellent experience.

Feels like a private resort and staff acted accordingly. Go and have fun especially when you are all alone next to one of the valley's biggest residents...a male bighorn led his band of seven down the hill at 16th green to 17th tee....amazing that they fear not...GREAT MOMENT

I have played these courses both North and South about 10 times....it amazes me that they are not more popular....maybe its because you get off the Freeway at the same exit as the Fantasy Springs Casino....being only a mile down the road from the Casino might lead us to temptation....maybe that's why you might avoid this remarkable facility...it has a great clubhouse, restaurant and bar with very polite staff....plus two 18 hole courses that skirt the desert meaning you see plenty of wild life...including the reptiles. You will not regret passing the Casino to play here...Enjoy one or two of the Black tee boxes which are elevated to boost your ego....Have Fun

Right near the 101 freeway...so easy access...in a gate guarded community area with very nice homes.

Looks like it was planned as a private course many years ago....the design has many dog legs and water hazards but no elevated tees...

Fairways, greens and bunkers were all in fine shape....cart paths were a little worn and the water hazards were let go...

I would play again....nearby cliff faces were spectacular to see....

This course is full championship length from the balck tees....just over 6700 yards....greens were cut tight, fast and firm with no bare spots....fairways could use some rain as all So California could....some tight lies but soft underneath....scenic everywhere with water features...big trees and mountain rock scapes to behold....

I will go back once a week during my month at the Welk...and play Arrowood and California Golf Club in Oceanside....but Woods Valley is less expensive....

Try it and you will come back....

The Palm Desert area has a lot of golf courses to choose from....many are lush green and relatively Bland....this was a nice change.

If you have played in Scottsdale or La Quinta you know the proximity of the desert hills can add to the experience. While you were not as close as those courses you get the same feel....No wonder this place has been ranked as the best public tract in the desert...

Great Ruben for lunch and well priced in a very modern club house restaurant building...classy.

I drove 20 minutes to get there and will again.

North Course only consists of the 18 holes from both sides....great condition

Unique aspect was the elevated tee boxes and greens similar to a Scottsdale course.....say about 50 to 75 feet elevation changes really added some beauty to the tract...

I will return

Enjoyed the day here but the South looked better except for the cost.....Great Value for a fine tract....

Almost North shore in character once you get going...first hole is flat and near the shopping center...then you go across the road and start to watch the mountain range faces...

Each hole has lush foliage surrounding it and the undulations and fair placement of the fairway bunkers and ponds added to the appeal.

The blue tees add some challenge and there was a championship tee box as well...

Fairways and greens were in very good condition...traps and water hazards are well designed. The layout is deceptive as you wind through adjoining the residential homes....

Very Good value if you can get the Golf Now deals...I greatly enjoyed the experience...

I have played here about seven times...always a pleasure...Now the locals tell me the Lake Tahoe planners want to re route the river and it will take away six holes until rebuilt. The upper Truckee is a clear and winding waterway that usually can carry a kayak or two. I want to run it before they try to adjust Mother Natures plan. I have seen these things fail before so I hope the planners keep that in mind.

This course might have been the second 18 for King Kamehameha country club which shares the entrance driveway....

The fairways and tee boxes were in great shape but the greens were under annual rehab....with a few showing signs of mis-steps in the process....

The experience was the best and for Maui it was the best value I have enjoyed....played six different courses and this came in number one. Much better than the old Blue course and Ellair.

Greens were great as were the big trees and surrounding wooded areas but the fairways were short rough grass.

I remember playing here when it was perfect...maybe a private course at that time....but the price was perfect for a qucik fun time.
