Good but not Great - Used to be Excellent

We had a terrible experience with conditions about 1 year ago on Los Colinas and were skeptical about coming back. El Campeon was the course we played on Feb23-2022 at 2:30 in the afternoon. I have played El Campeon probably 6 times in the past 9 years and the greens have always been EXCELLENT. From their look and feel, to their speed, you could tell the money was spent and the experience was great. Not quite anymore, the greens are only slightly above average on the "nice public course" scale, and like mentioned, a good 2 steps from where they were a couple of years ago. I know not everyone has an unlimited budget, but the perception is that the greens are just not as nice as they should be for this historic and beautiful property.
Had we payed $90 or $100, we would have been disappointed. We got the twilight rate, and made 17 holes, but the last 6-8 holes were very slow, and could have been sped up by 10 minutes with a ranger out there watching things, which would have allowed us to finish our round. Don't expect excellent, just expect slightly above average and you won't be disappointed.
I would rather pay $120 and have the greens and experience be EXCELLENT than to pay $60 and have it be slightly above average. Of note, w played Disney Palm later in the trip, paid $120 and it was EXCELLENT. We played PGA Village Dye course and paid $125 and it was EXCELLENT. Florida golf is booming, but driving a bit out of the way to go here is a bit of a stretch if you have high standards. The 3 of us that played are all 4-6 handicap snobs if you will, so our standards are on the higher side.
Hope that helps.
