We come down every year during January and February and play all three courses in the area. This used to be our favorite course. We would usually play it 20 times or more. Unfortunately, due to water problems, the course has deteriorated into a dirt pile that has become unplayable. The other two courses in this area are in excellent shape.
In addition to that, we use Golf now on all three of the courses in the area. We never get charged any extra fees above and beyond what we pay Golf now, when it is los Palomas they always make sure to add an additional fee. A week before we had gone to management and negotiated a price for around that was equitable, considering the conditions, but when we returned for our teatime, they would not honor that. It’s the old Mexican two-step. Please look at the pics to get an idea of what the courses like.

Too bad but last year and this year there is a severe water shortage so all the fairways are literally dirt. Mosttee boxed and most greens are ok. We have always loved this course but the playing conditions have become ridiculous. I did not take pics but If you saw what it looks like you would probably pass.

Clubhouse currently in a trailer. NO amenities.
Greens rolled like a billiard table due to winter's lack of growth. Rough is all hard brown dead growth.

We love this course. We come here every Jan/Feb for a month and play all 3 courses in the area several times. Tees are set up for all skill levels.
Luis Torres, the club pro spent some time with us and gave us great information. The rest of the staff was terrific also.

Fantastic course but with deadly consquenses if you are off the fairways.

We played here over 15 years ago and it was bad. Heard they made changes, so we tried it again. The fairways were hard and terrible. You could hit down on the ball and you would only take off a thin layer of grass. 'Cow pasture'
Worst sand traps we have EVER played. Below a 1/8" layer of dirt (not sand) was a hard pack, like rock.
You could not take a normal sand shot. Your club would just skid or bounce off the hard pack.
Greens were like velcro.
A lot of fairways were between rows of modular/mobile homes. As we crossed to some holes we drove down the streets for a while. I felt like I was in a mobile home park.
Seems like nothing has changed from many years ago.
The weather was perfect though.

We go to Penasco every winter for 3 weeks to golf at their 3 great golf courses. The Links is the one we play the most.
It is the most playable as it is the easiest of the 3. Different tee options for skill levels. We play it several times while we are there so we have gotten to know the staff. They are very friendly and the pro is very engaging. Not many amenities at the course but always a cart girl.

The course is very playable for all levels of skill.
GREAT VALUE if you purchase a 16 round book.
$25. per round with a cart. (It may be going up)
We go to Penasco a few times in the winter from Jan. thru March just to play all the courses. It is their off season. The weather varied from 65 - 80 degrees.

We play here every winter. The course is fantastic.Very punishing if you are not in the fairways. The views are incredible as you play along the ocean. Its not to be missed if you visit Penasco. Although the rate is $195., we play for the resident fee of $65. That is an incredible value.
