Dove Valley Ranch Golf Club
Played On 02/16/2021Lots of turf and firm greens
Had not played DVR for about 10 years and I was impressed on the return. Nothing about the physical course layout or clubhouse setup has changed.. it's still a relatively flat, desert layout amongst the homes -- but course conditions were impressive! Wall to wall over seed of fairways, greens and tees have come in solid and the dormant bermuda had full coverage into the desert areas. Course was in great shape and condition -- the usual ball marks from a steady amount of play, but you can see the superintendent's efforts, as they sanded and seeded some of the bad ones.. You can see they are making an effort to keep things top notch. Great quick 4 hour round in the afternoon, on a breezy day. Thank you DVR!
Wine Valley Golf Course
Played On 04/12/2019Not up to expectations
This place is usually firm and fast. The greens were the slowest I’ve ever seen them and a lot of weeds in the fairways. It’s okay and would wait until fall.
Caldera Links at Sunriver Resort
Played On 09/23/2018Great Family Friendly Par 3 Course
Caldera Links is a great par 3 course at Sunriver Resort. We had the chance to play it during the Pacific Amateur Golf Classic this past week. It is all par 3's, with bent grass greens and contoured greens, with different levels. Tees can be anywhere from 85 yards to a couple at 175 from the back. Tons of fun with the family or with the "boys" for a little skins game after a round at one of the other 3 courses at the Resort.
Crosswater at Sunriver Resort
Played On 09/22/2018Central Oregon Golf at it's Best
Crosswater is the quintessential Central Oregon golf course -- Snow capped mountains, pure bent grass greens, fairways with bluegrass rough and fescues -- all in perfect shape., pine trees, an awesome river running through it... such a perfect setting for a great day of golf we had! There are several forced carries over the Little Deschutes River, so highly recommend you play the "right" tees. Design of the course is great, allowing for some bump and run shots, with large green complexes. a MUST play!!
Columbia Edgewater Country Club - Macan Course
Played On 04/12/2017Fair test of golf
Columbia Edgewater is one of the better private courses in the area. The golf course is traditionally in good shape and staff is friendly. The course gets a lot of airport noise with takeoff and landings being near the runways of Marine Drive. Its one of the top 5-6 private clubs in the area.
Lewis River Golf Course
Played On 08/13/2016Northwest Walk in a Park
Having lived in Vancouver for 3 years, I had not made it to Lewis River yet and heard good and bad things. We played early on a busy Saturday with a few events. Pace of play was great (4 hrs 10 mins) and staff was friendly and kind. Course had some issues with the greens as some turf loss was in spots and they had re seeded some collars and surrounds... they weren't very fast but rolled ok.. Some good views of the Lewis River from the patio too! It's a fun NW course, that isn't terribly long, you can easily walk and have a fun time. It might be a bit over priced, but I would come back.
East at Glendoveer Golf Course
Played On 06/02/2016Interesting Muni
First time playing golf course so I didn't know what to expect. The layout crosses a "ridge" for the lack of a better term. It has some really good par 3's at 225/190/180 and then you get funky driveable par 4's at 270-310... Greens were in good shape, but overall conditions very average. It was a bit wet considering all the nice weather we had lately. They would be smart to pull out some trees to open up greens and tees so grass would grow better. Good value for the $25 all you can play on GolfNow.
West at Winged Foot Golf Club
Played On 10/09/2015US Open Venue doesn't disappoint
Winged Foot - West is truly a special place and lives up to the "Big Boy" golf course that it is.. The Par 3's are an outstanding set, challenging every area of your bag, while the greens are some of the smallest "large" surfaces I have seen, as due to the slope and speeds, there are very few spots to leave yourself an easy up and down. While the golf course is pretty much "all in front" of you, none of it is easy...
Royal Oaks Country Club
Played On 08/15/2015The Best Private Club in the Portland Metro Area
Everyone always asks, "what's the best private club in Portland" and many people will forget about Royal Oaks. This place has history (Tiger Woods won here), outstanding conditions, and is a great test of golf at 7000+ yards. The golf course keeps coming at you, with tight fairways, interesting angles based on hole locations and you better make sure you don't short-side yourself or get above the hole. It is a hidden gem in the Pacific Northwest and is a must play if you can gain access to it.
Tualatin Country Club
Played On 06/29/2015Great Shape and Fun "traditional" NW course
Played Tualatin in a charity event and it was in great shape. The course has removed a few trees in recent years and is still a traditional up and back routing, with a lot of parallel fairways, big douglas firs, a few tight spots and blind tee shots. Its not terribly long and was in EXCELLENT shape, especially considering the hot weather in June we have had. The course is relatively flat, with slight green contours and a great course for beginners and intermediate players.
Rose City Golf Course
Played On 06/14/2015A great City of Portland Muni!
Great early morning round at Rose City, aka "The Country Club", with my buddies. We play here 4-6 times a year in the summer, as it's still one of our favorites in early to mid summer, plus you have a ton more shade than Heron Lakes to escape the heat. To peg it by 7a on a perfect weekend day and be done by 10:50a, walking foursome was awesome.. The course was in great shape and greens smooth, but starting to get the summer heat spots (yellow a bit in areas) They rolled true and were firm, where you had to hit a good shot to hold them. Hank and his team do a great job and its always a fun round here!
Mint Valley Golf Course
Played On 05/17/2015Hidden Gem with GREAT Value!!
Played Mint Valley for the 1st time this weekend. It was a quick 35 minutes from the I-5/205 merge in Vancouver... Found a great $44 golf, cart, hot dog, beer and practice ball special on GolfNow.com. My 3 buddies and I were impressed with the conditions and value... Fun track with some interesting par 3's (210, 190 and 145, so a good mix) and some "local knowledge" par 4's... Course greens were 3 weeks past aerification and rolling true... staff was very friendly.. We will be back, as its as close as others in the Portland metro area and in better shape than some.
Salish Cliffs Golf Club
Played On 05/10/2015Great course and hit it straight
Played Salish Cliffs, as it was mid point for me (from Portland) and a buddy from Seattle.. Figured Mother's Day would be a good day as it wouldn't be too busy... Course greens were some of the best bent grass I have seen in the NW... The fairways are bent grass too! We flew around in just under 4 hours and it was nice to have the carts off the paths. Pretty hilly track with a lot of elevation change.... Only knock was the starter started his "Welcome" to the course rather abruptly with a "Where's your receipt?" and a mild discipline of my buddy who hit 4 chips on the putting green, who didn't see the sign "putting only"... ok dude, got it.. can't hit any bump and runs... Rest of the staff was awesome and had some food and drink in the restaurant afterwards... overall Great spot!!
RedTail Golf Center
Played On 07/27/2014Slow, bumpy greens, lack of professional courtesy but 5 good closing golf holes
had to fight though what looked to be the biggest tent sale of older merchandise, just to pay a greens fee.. got to check in and was not given any direction to where the range machine is.. I had never played here, so didn't know to go right or left for the range, well I choose left and ran into a chain link fence... so had to go to the other side... hit balls., hit putts.. all good and happy to play with my buddy... we get paired up with another 2some, male/female on their first date who had not played in six months, very nice folks and we are ready to peg it.....then I get chewed on by the starter as I walk to the Black tees...."Normally those tees are closed on the weekend and not sure if you should be back there..." I almost lost it! --- Two things Mr. Starter -- 1) If I am not suppose to be there, tell your staff not to put the black tee markers out --
I paid my money-- I have every right to play them... yes I will keep pace, don't worry bro..I play fast..... 2) Ask me my handicap, I am happy to show you my handicap card and prove my ability, like many courses do...
He was really rude and didn't welcome us... greens were poor, so much so that the lady in our group commented on their lack of speed and bumps... At $42, felt it was overpriced for the conditions of the course.... many better options in the area at that price.
St. Andrews Links - Old Course
Played On 07/09/2014Birthplace of Golf - How can it get any better?
There are those places, like Augusta, Cypress and St. Andrews, that can't truly be appreciated until you have been there and that's the case here. The "Old" course is everything and more that one imagines. The crossing of 7 and 11, is always interesting to see the "right of way". We played 2 straight days and had a different wind, with the same caddies. Recommend you take a caddy to navigate the hidden bunkers, coffins and swales. The history alone is worth the round, if you play well, consider it a bonus!
Tri-Mountain Golf Course
Played On 07/05/2014Slow play makes it our 1st and last time at TriMountain.
We were pumped to play after booking a great golf, sleeve of balls and Gatorade promo on Golf Now. In the cart and we see they actively promoting a pace of play of 4:20 in the golf carts, so we thought "sweet 4.5 hrs and then off the the BBQ" but we were wrong! Tri-Mountain disappointed us big time. On a Saturday of a busy holiday weekend, the course didn't have a marshal and set us up for a six hour round. After playing 10 holes, a call to the shop got us a staff member to tell us there was "nothing I can do, sorry guys" after doing a quick drive by. Needless to say our threesome won't be back anytime soon and our families weren't happy about being 1.5 hours late for the BBQ. There are quicker and better options for our group.
Camas Meadows Golf Club
Played On 06/01/2014Fun Course, lots of forced carries and not friendly to walk..
The title sums it up... Course is fun with good greens, with some variety, but it is pretty tight and if you can't fly the ball in the air at least 130-150 yards in spots, prepare to bring a lot of golf balls... it's not designed to walk, as there are long distances in between greens and tees, so be prepared to take a cart, unless you want 100-150 yard walks between homes to the next tee.. good test of golf..
Quail Valley Golf Course
Played On 05/25/2014Great greens and played in 4 hours.
Course was great! Fun and lots of room to hit the golf ball around. We played in 4 hours as a 4some, walking and teed off around 8a. Greens rolled true and weren't too fast. Fun track and we will be back.
Santa Barbara Golf Club
Played On 05/11/2014Greens were perfect!
Great time at Santa Barbara GC. Greens were perfect and pace of play awesome. Got done as 4 players under four hours and was actually waiting in a few holes, so could have gone faster. Easy location to get to and good price on GolfNow!
Pine Crest Golf Course
Played On 03/08/2014Fun 9 Hole track to work on the short irons for quick 9
Pine Crest is a fun little 9 hole right off I-5 in Salmon Creek area.. Staff is always friendly and course gets fast in summer when it dries out. Great little gem for a quick 9 holes to work on the short irons.
Thank you! Glad to hear you had such a great time at Santa Barbara Golf Club. Hopefully you made some birdies birdie boy.
