Pinecrest Golf Club
Played On 03/20/2017Good Course for the Money
This is a good course for the price, especially if you can get discounts from Golfnow. There is quite a lot of water, but a lot of it is visual only, and doesn't come into play. Still, some of the landing areas require a straight drive. This is not a problem if you play the correct tees for your ability.
Greens were very good. Fast and true. Fairways were dormant, which is common this time of year in Hilton Head area. Played the ball down, and had no instances where that was a problem. Overall a good course, and worth the money. Only complaint is that some of the tee boxes were a bit sparse. Would play it again.
Dolphin Head Golf Course
Played On 03/17/2017Excellent Course
Had a frost delay, and as the groups started the second hole, the ranger was already prodding slow groups. Kudos to the ranger!!! Played an enjoyable round in under 4 hours with 1 person in our group walking.
Course was in excellent condition for this time of year. Greens were fast, and in great shape. Played the ball down and didn't have a bad lie all day. Several tee box options, so will accommodate everyone. Holes 9 and 18 have terrific risk/reward options for those players who choose the correct tee box.
Friendly and helpful staff. One of the better values on the island. Moderate price, even at the full rate. Even better at Golfnow rates. Practice area was good, although they did have mats.
Will definitely play this one again.
Eagle's Pointe Golf Club
Played On 03/11/2017Needs lots of work
This course needs a lot of TLC. I know that they are still recovering from the hurricane, but I don't think that is the problem here. The layout was good. Fairways were moderate, a bit narrower than many of the courses on HH, but certainly acceptable. The trouble was that there wasn't enough grass on the fairways to stop the ball. Many shots went thru doglegs, or trailed off into the trees. The greens also needed some attention. They used green topping or fertilizer, so they looked better than they were. Very little grass on some greens, and large bare spots on others. The speed of the greens were fast because of the lack of grass. Some of the tee boxes also needed attention. Even the cart paths need attention. Lots of large bumps. It's too bad that the course is in such disrepair, because it could be a nice place to play. I doubt that I would go back, since there are lots of more enjoyable courses in the area.
Old South Golf Links
Played On 03/09/2017Excellent condition and good variety of holes
The course was in great condition. The only complaint was that the greens were a bit slow, however, they were in perfect shape. Played the ball down, and didn't have any problems with lie conditions. Will certainly come back. Also, very friendly staff. Good value for the money. Fairway vary from moderate to generous widths. None were overly narrow. All levels of players will enjoy it.
Crescent Pointe Golf Club
Played On 04/09/2015Nice course. Interesting holes but lots of water.
Course was in good, but not excellent shape. Played the ball down with no problems. Plenty of water. Perhaps too many fairway bunkers. Lots of carries over marshes and ponds. Fair price for what you get. Long par 3's from blue tees. Lost about a sleeve...some my fault others from unforeseen trouble. Some holes tight, and some open. Would go back. Only major gripe, they need to fix some of the cement cart paths.
