Carmel Mountain Ranch Country Club
Played On 02/12/2017Play too slow, greens too fast and some rough patches
Why invest in a GPS system that tracks speed of play and then let play lag? I rarely play any more because I am tired of twiddling my thumbs for 5 or 6 hours.
Friars/Presidio at Riverwalk Golf Club
Played On 02/16/2014Too Slow
If it takes over 5 hours to play, I really don't care about anything else.
But the course is harder than it looks. Wide open, but the rough was actually a bit of a challenge. Course was in overall good shape and is good for beginners or those who want a moderate challenge. If it was faster, I would come back.
Mission Trails Golf Course
Played On 9/19/20132 hours for the first 6 holes
When you host high school girls golf competition,. that's great, but don't sell tee times that start right after. This was painfully slow. Good thing it was a nice day. Course is just okay and the layout, with water ditches everywhere and trees completely blocking the fairway on some holes is annoying. Go elsewhere. But it was cheap.
The Golf Club of California
Played On 8/18/2013A great experience!
The most enjoyable - and the fastest - round we've had in quite some time. A beautiful setting and a course which is not punishing, but makes you pay for mistakes. A hidden gem.
Tecolote Canyon Golf Course
Played On 6/26/2012An odd little course
Very informal short course hidden in a - guess what? - canyon in one of the older areas of San Diego. Winding cart paths with little bridges to some of the greens and lots of tall cattail rough in the most inconvenient positions. But the fastest round of golf I've played in years. Not fancy, or particularly well kept up, but okay for sharpening the short game. Claim to have been designed by Robert Trent Jones and Sam Snead - hard to believe.
