Kokopelli Golf Course
Played On 11/03/2022Seriously people!?!
I haven’t played Koko in years and I didn’t play recently. I’m just commenting on how there could still possibly be new people playing this course given all the horrible reviews. Seriously people. Stop coming here.
Painted Mountain Golf Club
Played On 09/12/2022Downhill fast
I reviewed this course a month ago when they were having water issues. I’m sad to say it was in better shape then.
Apparently they put chemical down in what I’m assuming is prep for overseed. The whole course is dead and they cut everything and left the trimmings everywhere. Just a completely unpleasant place to play.
My main problem though is that they still charged the full $40 as if their course conditions were worth that. I’ll be playing Viewpoint for the rest of summer. Their course is green and $30.
Painted Mountain Golf Club
Played On 08/16/2022Pretty good considering
Apparently they’re having a water reservoir issue and can’t water the fairways. They’re pretty burned out, but still decent coverage considering. They’re focusing on watering the greens and tee boxes and I have to say those are actually the best I’ve seen them in awhile, though a little brown.
Still worth the price.
Red Mountain Ranch Country Club
Played On 07/16/2022Bad value
$80 for sanded shaggy greens without any notice to make a decision. I hate courses that do this. Won’t be back for awhile.
Western Skies Golf Club
Played On 07/11/2022Above the rest
Western Skies is always a good value, but seems this summer they’re just outperforming most courses with conditions. Everyone else seems to be letting fairways and greens go to the point of being unplayable but not dropping prices.
WS great greens by comparison, fairways pretty good, bunkers are great. Saw the bev cart 3 times. Round took 3.5 hours.
This might be the only place I play this summer.
Superstition Springs Golf Club
Played On 06/24/2022Not great but as expected
Just tired of AZ courses charging more than their poor conditions warrant. Fairways, bunkers, and tee boxes generally poor. Aesthetics are poor given all the dry water areas.
Only positives were the greens which were decent, and the staff. But for $60 on a Thursday morning absolutely not worth it.
Arcis golf can get bent.
Longbow Golf Club
Played On 04/24/2022Not worth it yet
In that weird time of year where courses have stopped caring about course conditions for us locals but still have the snowbird prices.
Tee boxes fine, fairways are starting to burn out and some pretty tight lies, greens were actually pretty good but really fast (difficult).
Biggest complaint were the bunkers, specifically the sand. Typically you find no sand in bunkers in the Phoenix area, but these were filled with A LOT of beach sand. I don’t know what kind of sand is appropriate for bunkers but this wasn’t it. Maybe this was cheaper or something, but I’ve never seen that kind of sand used before. Had a ball that wasn’t just plugged, but completely buried.
I’ll wait until the temps come up and the prices come down before playing again.
Encanto Golf Course
Played On 02/12/2022Difficult greens
I hadn’t played here in a couple years and it was always a well priced, easy course. Only reason I was here today was price (I live a little too far away now to play regularly) was reasonable compared to everywhere else’s ridiculous rates.
It’s still an easy, somewhat boring layout, but that has its place and what I wanted for the day. Fairways were nice, bunkers were above average, tee boxes average, and rough the typical bare lie no grass average you’d expect this time of year.
The surprising, and somewhat disappointing, part was the greens. They are incredibly firm and fast for a muni, and supposedly easy course. Don’t get me wrong, they were in great shape, but there was a bit of a “stay in your lane” factor that Encanto should have considered. I don’t know about everyone else, but I come to courses like Encanto for an easy, and hopefully under par experience. Not stressing over 4 foot putts or if my wedge is going to hold on the green. I had a 4 putt on 11 and had to go back and look at my stats to see when the last time I had a 4 putt was. It’d been awhile.
Anyway, I probably won’t be back for awhile, but that’s mostly because I live far away. But I’ll certainly consider elsewhere if I want an easy day if the greens remain in that condition. I’d say they easily cost 6 strokes. Stay underneath the hole people!
After all that, it’s still a nice course, and in great shape. Greens just weren’t what I was expecting.
We appreciate you taking the time to review the course and rate us. Thank you for the 4 stars! We aim for a 5-star experience, so we always welcome feedback for improvement. Thank you for playing Encanto Golf Course.
Monarch Beach Golf Links
Played On 08/02/2022Underwhelming
Ridiculously overpriced for an unmemorable course. Anything good about the course has to be tempered with the fact that it’s simply too expensive for what you get.
Ranger came by 2 or 3 times to tell us we were half a hole behind even though nobody came close to being behind us. 4:20 right on pace on the card.
One ocean hole. Guess that’s what you’re paying for. Won’t be back, too many better courses around for less than $200.
Staff was nice though, and was put with a good group of people.
Las Sendas Golf Club
Played On 05/30/2022Disappointed this time
Las Sendas has always been a good course and typically a good value when compared with all the crap courses that are still overcharging for the time of year.
Unfortunately this time the value wasn’t there as the greens were sanded and very firm. They were punching the fairways too. No indication on GolfNow. Had I known I would have played elsewhere. I hate courses that do this as it seems very dishonest.
I’ll be back most likely, but this round was annoying.

Bear Creek Golf Complex - Bear Course
Played On 05/01/2022Not worth it
Conditions average. Mostly just an uninspiring course with lots of dirt. Pace of play was decent. Hopefully the valley courses come down off their winter prices, because they’ve definitely stopped their winter course maintenance.
Western Skies Golf Club
Played On 04/08/2022As expected…except
Western Skies is always decent value and in good shape, and it was this time as well. Fairways, greens, bunkers, and tees all pretty good. My only gripe were how the greens played. They were in good shape and rolled well, but they were confusingly frustrating. Super slow and sticky, yet didn’t hold any approach shots. Couldn’t figure it out. I was having wedges roll out 10 to 20 feet…yet they were somehow slow. That’s probably just me though. Still a fun course and will definitely keep playing here.
The Legacy Golf Club
Played On 03/12/2022Fun course
Course is in pretty good condition. Greens and fairways pretty good, as well as tee boxes. Can’t speak to the bunkers as I wasn’t in one, but the fairway bunkers looked firm and the green-side looked decent.
Played as a single and was grouped with a father and son and another single. Great fun and great company.
Pace of play was an issue on the front 9 behind two foursomes that were playing a scramble and totally unaware that they were holding things up. 2:50 front. Legacy actually had a ranger though and really got things moving. Might have been under 2 hours on the back and we didn’t have to wait on a single tee or green, so great job on the ranger’s part.
Saw the beverage cart a few times throughout the round, although I don’t ever get anything.
Only downside is just time of year. Can’t wait for summer when the prices come back down to earth.
Hello, thank you for visiting us at The Legacy Golf Club. We appreciate your great rating and review. We hope you join us for another round soon.
SunRidge Canyon Golf Club
Played On 01/29/2022Not for $200+
It’s a good course but overpriced in my opinion. When paying north of $200 I expect premium everywhere. It’s nit picky, but 2/3 bunkers I was in had very little sand before compacted or very hard surface underneath making a standard bunker shot impossible. Super frustrating.
Other than that it was an enjoyable day. Very difficult course from any tee. Lots of target golf and strategy required. Blind tee shots where you can’t see the landing area. Greens were very quick compared to the standard courses around the valley.
Personally I won’t be back until the prices are reasonable, but it’s a good course.
Dobson Ranch Golf Course
Played On 09/18/2021Slow
Dobson Ranch is always in pretty good shape and a fun course. The new range set up is pretty cool, although the mats aren’t very good (pretty hard). I don’t mind mats like some do but these are gonna damage clubs over time.
I played on a Saturday and expected a busy course, but we got behind a foursome that was way too slow and unaware of it. 3 holes in one hour. No marshals, I had to be that guy that calls them out. If you’re gonna suck at golf, suck fast please!
Thank you so much! We are glad to have awesome guests like you!
Arizona Grand Resort
Played On 12/27/2020Fun course
First off, I’ve always wanted to walk this course just for the workout. I came not knowing if it was allowed and when I was told it was not I asked if they could make an exception. The course was fully booked and I told the manager there was no way I would be holding up pace of play if that was the case (I turned out to be right). He was kind enough to let me go ahead and walk. I wouldn’t bank on this becoming the rule, and I wouldn’t necessarily recommend walking anyway as it is TOUGH to walk. In any event, a lot of the course seems to be cart path only so you’ll walk anyway (hint to management, this is why your rounds take forever. My riding group was actually slowing me down). Still, staff was excellent and I appreciated being allowed to walk. It was a beautiful day.
As for the course, it was in pretty good shape. Tee boxes were pretty inconsistent with some of them having no grass at all. Fairways were good. Bunkers seemed good but didn’t find any of them thankfully. Greens were good and rolled true and fast despite what looks to be some kind of disease on some. Gotta hand it to the groundskeeper for keeping them very nice in spite of the patchy spots visually. The layout is awesome and I’ve always enjoyed the setup and views.
We finished in 4.5 hours which is pretty reasonable. The group behind never caught us. I imagine they played in close to 5 hours and past reviews have indicated this course can have a slow pace of play. Probably due to the numerous cart path only sections.
I would definitely play again, but probably not the rest of the winter. $75 is a little steep for me, and even though the course is pretty good, not a lot of value for the money for me anyway. Golf is golf and I can find courses that play in under 4 hours for less money and in decent shape. Would recommend though.
Championship at Viewpoint Golf Resort
Played On 05/27/2020Just ok
I was first out at 0530 as a single so pace of play wasn’t any issue. Finished in 2:10. Course was in ok shape for beginning of summer. Some reviews indicate the course was closed for a time for COVID so that could have something to do with some patchy spots on greens and fairways. My main gripe is being kicked off the range because they needed to mow, and then I watched as they did not mow. They could have at least let me warm up for 20 minutes. The other issue was one greenskeeper in particular. He was mowing some of the greens and not replacing the flagstick. Also wasn’t cleaning the clippings off the green. Other greenskeepers were mowing as well and weren’t leaving clippings behind. I get they have to maintain the course, but a little awareness for customers would be nice. So front 9 wasn’t that enjoyable.
I would play again though. You get what you pay for, so I wasn’t expecting TPC for $25. Just put the flagsticks in next time please.
Ahwatukee Country Club
Played On 01/26/2018Good layout, awful conditions
It’s such a shame that this course is in such bad shape, because it has a lot of fun holes. The fairways and bunkers were probably the best part of the course. The greens are awful and dry and were getting chewed up by players’ shoes. There wasn’t much organization at the start, although the front desk guy got me out earlier than my tee time, which was great. Problem was the other single that he paired me with wasn’t the correct player, so who knows how they keep track of who is actually starting. Course was packed and at times there were four groups on a hole. I payed $25 for a twilight round, but this course is NOT worth any more than that in its current condition. I sincerely hope they improve the conditions of this course. Otherwise I will be finding other places to play.
Kokopelli Golf Course
Played On 04/13/2017Dowhill
This course has gone downhill in just the last couple months. Fairways weren't great, rough is non-existent in many places, bunkers are concrete, and so are the greens. Driving range is in terrible shape. About the only thing good still is the layout. Pace of play was awesome because nobody was playing. I'm not sure if they just let the course go because the snowbirds left and they don't care about the locals, but this place used to be really nice a couple years ago. If it wasn't one of the six Arcis courses I'd probably not play here for awhile. Hopefully they'll pick it up over the summer, but I don't hold high hopes. If you're paying more than $25 a round you're paying way too much.
Thanks for your feedback. We’re sorry to hear we disappointed you. Your comments will be shared with the rest of the team.
