Scenic Hills Country Club
Played On 01/17/2020Older course with challenging holes
The course has obviously seen better days but it retains the charm of a private course built in a housing development. Greens were inconsistent and fairways had good turf even for January. For a shorter hitter the whites are too long at +6,000 yards, but the senior tee locations are way too short and mostly paired up with the most forward tees. Lots of challenges with right angle fairways and places to get into trouble.
Dogwood/Pines at TimberCreek Golf Club
Played On 01/18/2019An excellent course overall
We had played before but since the drive is nearly an hour, we hesitated, but were able to get a Hot Deal so we took the challenge. It was well worth the drive. It is an older course set among pricey homes but the design and conditions have stood the test of time. Fairways were just fine or Alabama winter and greens were fast and had some character to them. We will play again during our visit this year.
Talking Stick Golf Club - O'odham Course
Played On 11/20/2018An excellent course to play it forward
I played the more forward tees and found it to be a very comfortable course, with interesting holes and great conditions. My wife played the most forward tees and found that she could reach the greens in regulation on most holes.
The most concerning part of the round was that the website and Golf Now said that it was not cart path only, but it was making for a difficult walk for my partner's bad knee. Lots of construction going on, but still worth the trip.
TPC Scottsdale - The Champions Course
Played On 11/19/2018A very playable course - but long for a short hitter
We enjoyed the course but both my wife and I felt that the length was too great for shorter hitters. Despite that we felt the conditions were great, the staff was friendly and courteous and the pace of play was perfect. We would come back again just to play such a great course.
Gator Trace Golf & Country Club
Played On 04/11/2018Surprisingly good golf course.
At this time of year, rates become more reasonable, but the prices here are not at all indicative of the quality of this golf course. It is short, with a par 70, but with water on every hole and lots of challenges. This is an older style course but is well maintained and just a lot of fun to play. We have played in this area for several years during April but never gave this course a thought. I would recommend it to both the advanced and beginning players. Just stay out of the water and watch for the alligators.
The Club at Starr Pass - Rattler/Coyote
Played On 11/18/2017Our favorite course in Tucson
The three nines at Starr Pass are definitely our favorite courses when we visit Tucson - even if we have to drive from Phoenix for the day to play at least once when we visit the area. The courses are challenging with lots of desert and several holes with desert to shoot over to either reach the fairway or the green from the fairway. Despite the difficulty the course is just so well laid out and so beautiful that it is worth a visit.
Lookout Mountain Golf Club
Played On 11/16/2017A jewel of a course near the mountains
A beautiful course with both high altitudes and flatter and more ordinary holes. The staff could not have been more helpful and informative. We played behind a slow foursome and despite meeting the course time limits, we still waited for these poor players on every hole and we were a foursome as they were.
We will go back and try this again now that we know where the blind downhill shots over the desert and cacti should go. An unexpected jewel.
Rancho Manana Golf Club
Played On 11/14/2017Fun course with beautiful vistas
A favorite course when we come to the Phoenix area. It is not the newest or fanciest, but it is very playable and the elevation changes are lovely. Some very easy holes and some very challenging. Just a great place to go for golf and then dinner at Tonto, the restaurant at the resort.
The Champions Club at Summerfield
Played On 04/09/2014Very nice course at a great value.
Champions Club is a very nice golf course in a great setting. Conditions are good, but not great. Still I would recommend it to golfers of all levels. My two female companions would golf it again but only played nine holes. We played for a great rate and that only made it better.
We played the course last year with other companions and they agreed on the conditions and the recommendation.
The Club at Starr Pass - Rattler/Coyote
Played On 11/21/2013Challenging course with great views and layout
Excellent set of courses with three different nines. Rattler and Road runner are much more target golf with several challenging carries. Coyote is a bit more forgiving but with some truly memorable holes.
We have enjoyed playing these courses in the past two years and will go back again.
Caledonia Golf & Fish Club
Played On 3/20/2013Wonderful and scenic course but expensive
We golfed here in 2010 and were so impressed that we needed to golf it again this season. The $150 fees were expensive, but we deemed it worth it since it was so beautifully laid out and maintained. In 2010 we had ample time to play, but moved along well. In 2013 the tee times were spaced much closer together and we waited on each hole. To the credit of the rangers, they tried to move slower players along but the round was still in excess of 5 hours. We're glad we went back, but it is not worth $150 (or more) when the play is this slow. But in the end it is one of the more beautiful courses we have played around the country.
Panther Run Golf Club
Played On 2/15/2013Challenging course with forgiving fairways
This relatively new course is set in a Del Webb community under construction. The course is well laid out, with challenging aspects, yet with relatively wide landing areas on most fairways. The greens are excellent with true rolling and great conditions. The course has quite of bit of water along many holes that can also be avoided by keeping the ball on the wide fairways. Alligators were observed on at least a couple of holes.
Construction was underway during our round, but did not bother our game in any manner. This course is a true value for the money and should be strongly considered.
Arrowhead Golf Course
Played On 2/12/2013Short par 72 from the white tees but still very challenging and fun
I would golf here again despite the relatively slow pace of plan - 7 minutes between tee times and slower players. Challenging if you get in the traps or the ever-present water, but very forgiving if you hit down the center or safely on the two holes with sharp doglegs. I was not tempted to go for these two but our two playing mates were and only successful for one out of four drives.
Water driving range and decent putting greens and good beverage cart service. My spouse would have preferred one more bathroom on the course, but four locations is typical.
