Royal Manchester Golf Links
Played On 07/20/2017Too hot, quit after 9.
The course was great. Staff was super nice. Sandwich at the turn was tasty.
The course was in GREAT shape, except for all the ball marks on the greens. Greens were rolling pretty fast.
Weather was 95 degrees with high humidity. Too hot to finish the course. Can't wait to go back.
Furnace Brook Golf Club
Played On 10/13/2016Course is in great shape, once I found it.
Google maps has the address of the course wrong, and one 'road' on the map is barely a dirt path. But I did find the course eventually.
With the drought this summer, it's hard to keep a course looking this good. The fairways were all nice and green, and the tee boxes and greens were great. Sure, there were a few bare spots, but that's fall golf.
A couple of slow groups, but otherwise pace was good. One group was apologetic, "We just wanted to get up the hill to the bar, sorry for being slow."
Guy in the pro shop was great. Answered all my first-timer questions. One rude guy on a mower. Drove my cart to the side of a fairway, and the employee drove his mower over and yelled "THAT CART DOESN'T BELONG THERE." Even though there wasn't any "NO CARTS" signs. He drove over to another group right after and scolded them as well. Dude must have been having a bad day.
Great little course though. I'll definitely be back.
Dunwoodie Golf Course
Played On 10/03/2016Decent for a weekday round.
The course was in average condition. Some spots needed repair, a couple of greens have bare spots. Only a couple of spots were unplayable. Totally expected for fall golf on a city course.
The good: The carts have GPS built in. It's nice to click on the screen and know exactly how far to the pin.
The bad: The carts have GPS built in with control of the golf cart. There are 'no go' areas of the course you can't take the carts. While some of the areas make sense, like the fringe, other spaces are just baffling, like driving down the rough on one fairway.
These areas aren't notated on the gps screen until you enter one of them. When you enter these areas, you have to REVERSE OUT of the zone. You can't turn around and drive forward, you can only go only in reverse. (Guys on the next tee box loved the reverse beeeeeeeeeep.) It also makes you back out at about 2mph. Once you clear the forbidden zone, it reverts back to full-speed reverse without warning.
The driving range is nice, lots of stalls and a bucket of 70 balls is $6. Didn't try the food or the bar.
The course was fun enough after 18 we did another 9 holes.
Fairways are narrow in places.
Bowling Green Golf Club
Played On 09/20/2016Great shape for a public course.
Booked on Golfnow for $38. Two other guys booked for $19, so there's deals to be found.
The course is in great shape.
Somewhat narrow fairways, lots of trees. Pin places were tucked in pretty well on some holes. Greens had lots of curves.
Pace was slow because a 3-some ahead of us were playing the tips, while not hitting it past the front tees on most holes. No ranger to move them along. Did get all 18 in before dark.
Hotdogs from the grill were good. Better than most courses.
Bunch of wildlife on the course. Was nice to see.
Twin Willows Par 3 Golf Course
Played On 09/20/201610 holes, 9 are wedge shots. Great place to practice.
Pros:
Fun course.
10 holes, the first 9 are wedge shots, the last hole is 180ish. Great place to practice short game shots.
Greens in good shape, and all have a good deal of break to them.
Really nice guy in the pro shop.
Short, great for a walk.
Course was in good shape.
Not busy.
The cons:
Tee boxes are mats. Good quality, but still mats.
Hole 3 is kind of confusing. It's in the center of the course, and there's 3-4 greens around the 100 yd distance.
Only hole 10 is a full shot. All other tee shots are around 100 yards.
Hilldale Golf Club
Played On 07/20/2016Carts are the reason for slow play.
Great course for a $10 GN special. Lots of great holes, including a couple of tricky ones.
Noon on a weekday, the course was not busy.
Driving range was decent, (although a couple more yardage flags would be nice,) and the practice green was in great shape. Didn't check out the restaurant.
Some tee boxes were too hard to put a tee into. Moving a foot or so the tees went in easily.
Slow play only because the carts are SLOW. The slowest carts I've ever played. The course needs to open them up and the rounds will be much faster.
Glendale Lakes Golf Club
Played On 07/01/2016Great course
Weather was perfect. The wind was a club or two on some holes, but still made for a fun round.
"The water comes into play on 12 holes." was the advice I got from the pro shop. He was right. A few of the holes are bordered by water, and others are a target practice to stay out of the drink.
Got paired up with two guys (Bob and Wally,) who made the round a blast.
Would highly recommend this course.
George W Dunne National Golf Course
Played On 06/23/2016Great round.
The GOOD:
The place was in great shape. Greens were amazing, the sand was well-raked, the pro shop attendant was extremely nice. They have a grass hitting area on the range. They have surf board carts (next time I'll try one.)
Course is quite challenging. A few holes require some thought.
The bad:
A big storm rolled through the night before only left a few fairways wet.
Poison ivy/oak just off the course. I lost half a dozen balls during my round, only one ball was thirsty. Two of the other five were deep in the trees. The other three errant shots were right off the fairway, normal punch outs. After being warned at the pro shop and seeing the signs, I dropped and took the penalties.
I didn't rent a surf-cart! (But that's my fault not theirs.)
Will definitely be back.
The course is in AMAZING shape and it's awesome to hear that you enjoyed your round. We definitely recommend trying out a golfboard next time they are at ton of fun!
Deer Creek Golf Club
Played On 06/21/2016Great place to golf.
Everyone was nice, the course was in great shape. The range has a short game area.
Edgebrook Golf Course
Played On 06/12/2016Fine for a quick round after work.
The good:
Course is short, so my score was 10 shots lower than normal!
Early morning round meant I had the course almost to myself.
The guy bringing out carts was very pleasant, and gave me the rundown of the course.
The mediocre:
The back tees are all high-quality hitting mats with tee holders. Not great, but at least they're not AstroTurf.
No Par 5's. It would be nice to be able to crank the driver once or twice per round.
The bad: I booked the first tee time of the day. While I was waiting for the clubhouse to open so I could pay, the starter send two people out ahead of me. He mentioned they were employees, and I didn't have a problem letting them go first.
Except I don't think they fixed a single ball mark on the greens. Just about all the greens had a couple of fresh ball marks when I got to them. How do they expect people to fix their ball marks if the employees won't?
Thank you for taking the time to write this review. We do understand the importance of golfer etiquette and apologize for the ball marks that were not fixed. This is something that we take seriously and will make sure to talk to our employees about. We are glad to hear that, aside from the unfixed ball marks, you had an overall good experience at Edgebrook Golf Course. We hope that you are able to make it back to the course again soon!
Foss Park Golf Course
Played On 05/07/2016Great course for a Saturday morning.
Was the first or second out for the day, and didn't have anyone to slow me down. Finished in about three hours.
A little rain on the front, and dry and windy on the back. Putting in the gusty wind blew up my score.
Everyone I dealt with at the course was nice.
Course was in good shape, even with all the rain lately.
Thanks for playing Foss Park, glad you enjoyed the course and the staff made your experience better. See you soon!
The Meadows Golf Club of Blue Island
Played On 04/23/2016Slow round, course was ok.
Saturday golf. Slow slow slow. Waiting 10-20 minutes between sinking a putt and teeing off the next hole.
Greens were punched and not sanded, which made for interesting, bumpy putts. Second cut was pretty rough. Lost a few balls a few feet off the fairway.
Course layout was pretty nice. A few challenging holes, a few cakewalks. Staff all seemed really nice.
Is a poor pace-of-play standard here? I booked a tee time at 9:48 for Saturday, but I can't afford to do a 5+ hour round.
We are so sorry for the slow pace of play during your round. We hope this did not negatively influence your experience on our course.Thank you for your feedback, we do hope you come back to play again.
Morrison Lake Country Club
Played On 07/31/2015Fine course.
"GolfNow doesn't work with our system, so make sure you call when you book."
There was a golf outing at 9am. I skipped warming up and went out a half hour early. Only got 16 holes in before the event started.
The course is in great shape, the people were all friendly.
The back 9 is eight par fours in a row. Makes for somewhat boring golf.
The Highlands
Played On 11/05/2014Good price for fall golf
Lost 4 balls in the leaves, but what can you expect for November.
Couse is still in decent condition. Lots of leaves in a few places.
Yarrow Golf Course
Played On 11/03/2014Can't wait to come back next year.
The course was great for November golf in MI. A little rough here and there, but nothing out of the ordinary after the first frost of the year. Greens are massive, and were running fast. Fairways in good shape.
Staff were all super friendly and helpful.
Beer and a dog for $6 was a decent deal. Best GC hotdog I've had in MI.
If you golf this late in the year, don't forget a water bottle. All ball washers have been stored for winter.
The Vineyard at Escondido
Played On 10/24/2014Good for the money, but slow.
Good course for the money, but leave yourself a good bit of time. Our threesome took close to 5 hours. Couple that with the fact our 9:22 tee time was more like 9:35, and the course gets 4 stars overall.
Fairways and tee boxes were in okay shape. They (along with a lot of Cali) are suffering from the lack of rain. Seems like they're watering just enough to keep things alive.
Greens were in decent shape, having been half-punched recently. All the holes were cut in the non-punched side, so the greens rolled pretty well--as long as you got close to the hole.
There are a few tough holes very early in the round. Not quite sure why the architect of the course decided to design tough holes that early in the round, like #2. But overall the course was a nice challenge.
Next time I'm in town I'd play here again.
Bonus points for the $8 burger/hotdog, chips, and a beer special.
Pines Golf Course, The
Played On 07/08/2014Course is in great shape.
Fun course to play.
It has been raining quite a bit lately, and stormed the night and morning before my round. They weren't letting carts in the course, so I walked.
The manager at the pro shop said "you were supposed to get a call from GolfNow letting you know about the carts." No call or email from GN, so I don't blame the course.
Nice course, a lot of undulations in the fairways, greens were in great shape. I'll definitely golf here again.
Lincoln Country Club
Played On 8/14/2013Great for an afternoon.
Nice course, pretty empty in the afternoon. Staff was all really nice. Not too hard of a course.
Tyler Creek Golf Club
Played On 8/13/2013Nice course
The place was almost empty on the Monday afternoon. Some of the greens need some work, otherwise the course looks great.
Not that hard of a course, hard to lose a ball unless you hit the creek.
Whitefish Lake Golf Club
Played On 6/11/2013Good couse, but confusing layout.
Friendly staff, Nice course, but the layout is crazy.
I finished on 2, then went to the next tee box and took my first shot. When I got over the hill to where my ball should be, there was a water hazard. I looked at the map on the score card again. Oops. I hit off 7, not 3. I looked at the map again and you have to take the cart path from 2 to 3. Huh. I paid closer attention the rest of the round, but there was still a couple times I had to pull course map out to find the next tee box. I'm sure the next time I golf there it will make more sense.
Otherwise the course would have gotten 5 stars. Everyone was really nice, the course was in great shape, greens were well maintained.
Hi "badcoffee" Thank you so much for the great feedback. We appreciate you taking the time to leave us a review. We hope to see you back out on the course in the near future. Thanks Mgt.
