Sandpiper Bay Golf & Country Club - Sand Nine
Played On 12/13/2016Challenging but fair design
Despite intermittent rain showers and a couple of soggy areas, the course played very well. We were on the Piper and Bay courses, which provided different designs and challenges. Greens were in excellent shape. Best I've played in the four courses I've been on in December. Nice clubhouse and very friendly staff, from the pro shop to the starter to the snack bar. Would definitely play there again.
Jones at Sea Trail Golf Resort and Convention Center
Played On 12/08/2016Scenic, challenging, bargain price
This Rees Jones-designed course was at times like playing in a scenic wetlands and at other times amid some beautiful homes. That's how varied the environment was. A couple of fairways were soggy from previous rains but for the most part the course was in great shape for mid-December. We saw blue herons, egrets, cormorants and, on one hole, a large alligator thankfully sunning itself quietly to one side of the green not far from a pink golf ball that someone ahead of us apparently decided not to retrieve. All in all, a great day on a fine course at a bargain price. Would love to play the Byrd and Maples courses at Sea Trail.
Eagle Nest Golf Club
Played On 12/02/2016Nice course, good value
I played this course on consecutive days. Day 1 was wet from a heavy rain. Several areas were soggy and by day two they were better but not completely dry. Greens were in good shape as was most of the course. They did a nice job of cleanup after Matthew roared throug. Some work still under way. The course is challenging for a 20 handicapper like me but very fair. Pace of play was great on Day 1 -- a Thursday. Very slow on Day 2 -- a Friday. It was a five-hour round. The course could stand to have a ranger out there pushing slower groups. Decent driving range and nice practice area for putting. That said, all golfers out there were patient and courteous.
