Getting Better...

Played this course (Oleander) for the first time in 5 years. I usually play the other two JI courses because they are in better shape. Oleander had become tired and seemed to be the less manicured and cared for. It was a soggy mess even on days when it hadn't rained recently.
I was pleasantly surprised that the conditions were very good. Greens a bit worn but very playable. Layout is very challenging from the blue tees. Some long par 4s and 3s. Par 5s can be reachable. Good track and I hope they keep it maintained. Fun to play.

Great Turn Around at H.O.

I am a local and have played this course for over 15 years. There were times I would not play - or even recommend that others play - because of the poor conditions of the course. Then the previous owner tricked it up into circus style target golf. In short many stopped playing the course and went to other venues.

The new owner and has put much thought ($$) into the course. Most importantly he hired an amazing greens keeper who has completely changed the look and quality of the layout. The result has been a top-notch gem in the Golden Isles that I would recommend over any track in this area. It is not a bomber's course even from the blue tees but there are more than a few opportunities to hit it long and score. But the driver probably won't be a staple off the tee. The greens are in excellent shape. If you are playing for the first time consider hitting to the 150 marker rather than trying to bomb off the tee. Carts are quality with the GPS being a nice bonus in getting yard ages. Hats off to the owner and staff for really turning this course around!

Great track

This course has always been a favorite in Southeast GA. Challenging layout. 3/4 par 5s are reachable with a good drive and the par 3s are varied distances that will make you think about club choice. Also, there are some par 4s that are long that make even long hitters use a mid iron into the green. A few of the greens have problems with mold but the staff is very attentive to these issues and they don't last long.

Southern Hospitality...not

The course was in good, not great, condition. They typically let the fairways grow a little longer and you get very little roll-out on drives. Not really a big deal if you know this ahead of time. The greens are usually in very good condition and this was the case for our round. They roll on the slower side but very true. I was pleasantly surprised to see that they are now rolling the greens. The challenge is to stay in the fairway. Although not real tight if you miss the fairways the rough will eat your ball alive. You may have a hard time finding it even if you are a few yards astray. This penalizes you appropriately and presents the biggest challenge when playing this course.

We were a twosome who played behind four sloppy old dudes. They had a full hole and a half open in front of them all round and refused to let us play through even as was waited for them to tee off right in front of us. We told the starter Lou at the turn and he said THEY WERE MEMBERS and he wasn't going to say anything. This isn't the first time and it really gives the locals (I am one too) a bad rep at this place. The Canadians who come down in the spring are so courteous and pleasant to play with and understand golf etiquette. It's too bad these elderly bubbas, who looked the part and carried all the right equipment, didn't have the class to match. Driving the cart onto the green fringe, putting with your shoes off. Genteel southern gentlemen indeed. Al Czervik (Rodney Dangerfield) had more class than these 'members'.

Great turnaround in course conditions

I have played this course over the past 15 years and it is in the best shape its ever been. This is because they have finally found a greens keeper that really knows what he's doing. In the past they've tricked this course up with planting grasses in the middle of fairway landing areas. Made for circus golf and a very frustrating experience that caused many locals to abandon it as a regular loop. The greens had previously been a very bland mixture of soft greens and slow rolls. The greens now roll according to their intended undulations and provide for some challenging putts. I played from the blue tees as this is not a bombers course (6265 yds) and will make you think about which club to pull from your bag off the tee. Fairway shots into these greens also give you pause as to how close you want to shoot at the pin and risk bogey or worse. Good job to the ownership and Travis for improving the course and getting it into great shape.

Play this Course!

We logged on and got the GolfNow early tee time. Very good value for the money. I'm not so sure about the $115 it would cost without the GN price though. The greens are always in great shape. This is not a very long course and we played from the blue tees. Greens are very undulating, pretty fast and they will penalize you if you land on the wrong side of the pin. A downhiller isn't your friend. The wind is usually a factor on the point that goes out into the river (holes 12 -15) so beware. Overall a very good track and I highly recommend if you want to play a great southern course.

Great Experience and Challenging

We've been coming to this course for over 10 years as part of our Litchfield golf package. Our group of 8 always puts this on our list because the course conditions are the best. Compared to our experience at the much higher priced Caledonia this course was in better condition with the fairways and tee boxes dry (Caledonia was a mud pit) and allowing 90 degree carts even after considerable rain. The course is challenging from the whites and the wind made it even more so. The staff is very accommodating and professional. Very scenic layout in a gated community that obviously considers the upkeep of the course as a positive. We will be returning again next year,

Overpriced for course conditions

First off, I have played this course for the past 10 years so I'm very familiar with it. I completely understand that its been a difficult winter in the coastal south, and this has hindered the course conditions, but don't charge an arm and a leg to play. Overall the course is very well manicured and maintained around the edges. But the fairways have been in very poor condition over the past two years. In fact, we noticed today that even if you pick the ball clean on your second shots in the fairway you end up with mud all over you. The tee boxes and fairways are painted green to cover the muddy conditions. The greens are actually in good shape and very firm. The staff was very friendly. Overall, not worth coming back to play at these prices.

Solid Track

I'm a local so when you play this course in the winter I always expect the snowbirds from the north to be out. Was paired up with a very pleasant Canadian couple who were good golfers and good company.

The course is in excellent shape. The greens will fool you as the footing feels soft but they are surprisingly fast in comparison. The short par 4s challenge you off the tee in what club you use and how much you want to bite off. The 18th par 4 is one of the toughest you'll play due to length and water down the right side of the fairway.

Great golf experience

First time playing this course. Have driven by it on 95 many times and wondered about the layout. Course conditions were excellent with the greens playing firm but not overly fast. Many greens were undulating that will leave a challenging 2 putt if you don't hit the right areas. Pretty open layout that allows for risk reward decisions. Highly recommend.

Great layout.

I play this course often and it presents fair challenges to golfers at all skill levels. They're having trouble with the greens lately but it looks like they are coming back. Sand bunkers are not as consistent and they should be. But overall its the layout and setup of the fairways into the greens that make this course. They force you to think about club choices off the tee.
