Brierwood Golf Club
Played On 02/08/2017Enjoyed the Course
The weather in early February was a perfect 70 degrees, with blue skies, after some rain & clouds in the morning. Head Pro, Joey was there to greet golfers and made the round friendly. There were some wet areas on the fairways, but expected due to the rains. Layout is good, some challenging holes mixed in with easier ones. Wide fairways, and sand bunkers only where necessary to make the holes appealing. Only problem were the greens. Many were uneven, with little grass. With spring weather coming, I expect the course to "green up" and the putting to be much better. I recommend to give this course a try in the next few months.

I particularly enjoyed the layout. From the regular men's white tees, slope is 127, although the yardage is around 6,000, so it is "sneaky tough" in places. Greens were in good shape, fairways over-seeded with rye grass all look good. The cart paths are a disaster, need to be re-done. The course needs an update to the beautification, cart paths, and outside the fairways in general. I hope by spring 2017 these can be fixed. Despite that, I look forward to returning.

I enjoy the course layout, with some challenging holes and some that are easier. The greens are "tricky" fast with subtle breaks in most cases. Get used to the speed & you will be okay. This is in contrast to the soggy, wet areas around the greens which meant the ball has to carry to the green and land softly on the fast green. There was plenty of rain in days leading up to our round, and a rain cloud stopped our play for about 15 minutes. Water hazards are in play on several holes, so watch the flags surrounding them.

Loved this course, it is cut through pines and marshes, very quiet and peaceful. Very playable for all handicaps. There are many ponds bordering the fairways, so you must review the scorecard pictures of each hole to figure out some of them. Greens were recently aerated and a bit slow, but otherwise were in good condition. I was told by golfnow and the starter before the round about aerification. That is very appreciated.
