Sneaky Trees

This is a fun and challenging course. The course has very little water hazards and very few bunkers really come into play. So, what makes this course interesting to play. First, almost all fairways are solidly lined with very tall mature trees. Absolute accuracy is required off the tee and is the key to shooting a low score. Wayward shots off the tee on either side of the fairway will end up into the trees; punching back out onto the fairway is the safest play if not the only play. The greens appear to be level, but many have little ridges that promote misdirection. My only complaint is the restaurant closes at 4PM which, in my opinion, is too early since the noon golfers are just coming off the course approximately 4:15PM.

Save this course

This course is basically run by a homeowners committee. People who bought homes on the course pay no dues ever. This perk promotes a lack of money to properly operate the course. The committee is meeting today to determine the future of this course and closing it down will be one of the options to be discussed. The course is nestled in a beautiful mountain setting. The front nine is basically carved into the mountain side and many of the fairways are moderately sloped. The fairways are narrow and lined with very tall mature trees. Tee shots must be accurate and any wayward shot right will end up in another fairway blocked by these trees that are really impossible to shoot over. The back nine can be found in the valley with basically level fairways; however, many of the greens are extremely elevated and most are small. All tee boxes are in need of much maintenance. There are many bare spots close to the green and several of the greens had places that should have been under repair. All this aside, I'm going to play this course again because it is challenging. I hope they don't close the course.

Test of your skills

I played from the gold tees playing over 6900 yards long. This was the most intimidating looking course that I have played. Every fairway and hole provided a different challenge requiring strategy and focus. If you can find a level lie anywhere, please let me know. Most of the fairways slope towards deep wooded gullies or water. I cannot remember one level green. Many of the greens moderately slope and some have extreme undulations. I found reading the greens to be deceptive. I either over read or under read the break time and again. Like I said, a true test of golf.

Additional Information

I gave my opinion about Bing Maloney. I just wanted to add that I played the championship course both days and not the 9 hole express course.

A really fun course

This is a very flat course. The fairways are lined with tall mature trees and most are comfortably wide for the average golfer. Tee to green is well maintained. Four of the greens really stood out because I found it impossible to read or even see the breaks on those greens. This is a fun course that can be conducive to low scores all the while demanding the use of every club in your bag. As a final thought, use a de-lofted club when chipping around the green to ensure you make it close to the pin.

PGA players would find this course challenging

My yearly vacation takes me back to Colorado to golf with my brothers. I also go back to be tortured and humbled because the Cedaredge Golf Course does just that. The front nine is at least a fair test of golf, but the back nine is absolutely murder. Seven of the nine fairways are extremely narrow because they are carved into the side of the mountain. I'm talking 30 to 40 yards wide with no secondary rough. Every shot from tee to green must be accurate or you will find your ball in the sage brush and cactus if you're right of the fairway or rolling down the hill out of bounds if you hit it left. Secondary rough, what of it exists, is very narrow. Elevation on most holes on the back nine is extreme and blind shots are not unusual. Some of the greens are deceptive to read and putt. My suggestion: putt straight to the pin and you shouldn't be to far off.

Fantastic course for all kinds of wildlife

This is a beautiful course full of wildlife. Deer, turkey, geese, coyote, etc. I did not feel the fairways were as narrow as some had previously declared. The fairways were well maintained and bunkers strategically placed. I found the greens to be very deceptive. I continually played either too much break or not enough. I felt my pace was good as the ball was always close to the hole. This is a great course to play and I plan on making it a regular stop.

Holes 12 and 13 are definitely signature holes

I have golfed this course several times and find it a test of skill. Holes 12 and 13 are worth the price of admission alone. The fairways and greens are in great shape. The greens do have some deceptive slopes which make them hard to read and equally hard to putt. The facilities are first rate and the view of the number one fairway from the club house is fantastic. La Contenta should be a must course on your bucket list.

So you think a 122 slope is a "piece of cake". Think again!

First, let me set the stage. I'm a 70 plus year old with bone cancer, in remission, but still hit the ball 230-250 yards routinely. I played this course years ago during it's infancy and did not like it because the fairways were close together and balls were flying everywhere. The fairways today are obviously close together, but the course has matured and trees line most of the fairways providing a barrier. I've played a lot of courses lately, but this is the tightest I have played. You have a short iron to the green if you're long and straight (290-300 yards) on many holes. Accuracy is a must for almost all shots or you will find yourself addressing a downhill, uphill or side hill lie in inch and a half thick grass. The course does have a neat little colored booklet depicting each hole and how to play it and the green. I wished I had looked through it prior to playing. I will play this course again, but hopefully not in 108 degree weather like yesterday. The big Arnold Palmers were a welcomed addition at the nineteenth hole.

Placement of drives is a must on some holes

The fairways of this course are interspersed throughout the vineyards. Don't hit too many tee shots to the right because the vineyards are always lurking. Let me say from the onset, I had a very nice experience and I will golf this course again. But, there were some things that did not measure up to other courses that I have recently played. The golf carts appeared to be very old and in need of replacement. Most of the seats were torn and many windshields cracked and just taped as a repair solution. I walked approximately 60 yards to get to the practice range. Once on the course, the championship tees were no where to be found and I ended up playing from the blue tees. My partner and I finished the front nine in two hours, but encountered two foursomes that jumped in front of us as we made the turn to the back nine. Inquiry revealed the foursomes
felt there we too many people going off number one and they didn't want to wait. Our back nine turned into three hours of slow play.

This is a championship course requiring relative long accurate drives to reach GIR.

This is the most challenging course that I have played. I played from the tips measuring over 7100 yards and mostly into a 15 mph wind. Most of the fairways were mowed very narrow followed by a first cut of rough and then a brutal second cut of rough almost making it impossible to advance the ball other than a very short distance. It was set up just like a PGA tour event and I wish more courses were set up the same way. I have two suggestions. First, more drinking water on the course. Second, they need to stock Arnold Palmers.

A links style course with ample water and bunkers

I played from the tips in a 25-30 mph wind which made approach shots into the green interesting. The fairways were in good shape; however, several of the greens were a little patchy with some kind of foreign grass clumps interspersed throughout. The greens did roll true, but I kept reading more break than existed. Course knowledge would really have helped score lower. I hit several shots that I thought were really good only to find, after walking over a small mound, the ball in the water because of water extending well into the fairway. I will play the course again and definitely play it differently. I hope there is less wind next time, too. I have two suggestions. First, there definitely needs to be more water to drink on the course. Second, they need to stock Arnold Palmers.

A great course for all skill levels. Although long, the fairways are wide. The course is in great shape. The greens are fairly fast and can be somewhat deceptive. I read more slope than was necessary. Great experience and the weather was fantastic.

This course can be challenging

My bust. I didn't read your schedule correctly. I booked Monday thinking I had booked for later in the morning. The super friendly staff showed me where I had actually booked for Tuesday. They switched me to Monday and provided my with an hour later than asked for tee time. I consider this course to be moderately difficult, but the 25 MPH crosswind for most holes made it a bit of a challenge. The fairways and greens were well maintained and the greens fairly fast. The rough was brutal and tall enough to make finding your ball difficult at times. The 18th hole is fun, but does require three accurate shots to the green. Always a great course to play.
