What a joke

Save your money. The tee boxes are all chewed up and the greens had dry spots with voids but were nicely covered with green dye. The same dye that was on the tee boxes. We paid $300.00 plus per person to play this course. I would never recommend this course to anyone. I can’t remember the last time I paid that much for a round of golf and had to hit off fake grass mats that on the par threes. Yes fake grass mats that were installed in the ground, which means this is long term. Also some greens had sod removed and replaced with new sod but had 1/4” gaps filled with sand, which also had a beautiful green dye job. I’m a 6 handicap and my overall rating a solid 1, because the Bluetooth speaker in the cart was great. 😳

Sanded greens

They did not inform me some greens where sanded. I’m talking heavy sand like the beach how can you putt on this. They should have disclosed that to everyone our cart was filthy also the cart kid said water usage. Management needs to inspect the place grab a cart and tour your property.

Once is enough for me.

I can only say one thing about this course: The Owner(s) need to give the course ambassador the authority to kick golfers off who don’t fix their ball marks on the greens. Warn them once and the second time they’re gone. Every single green, yes all 18 greens, had fresh ball divots that where not repaired or were sand filled with green sand. Yes green sand. So, this is not something new for this course. So before putting your ball,
you had to repair at least 2 to 3 old divots holes. It’s a simple fix; remove the problem people and the word will get out. And I don't care how old or young you are if you can’t fix your divots, take up cards

Desert course has burned out fairways.

I’m afraid it’s days are numbered. The Desert Course has had a water problem as no parts are available at this time. There are burned out fairways and green issues. So let’s talk about the Lakes Course. There are green fairways but the greens are a patch work of a bad Herman Munster show. It looks like Grandpa and Spot went for a walk on all the greens and then Eddie and Lily tried to repair it. Just a foot note; we didn’t see Marilyn. That would have been a high lite. Also the food service ended at 1:00 pm. can you say hungry?
Numerous greens had 3 major sod repairs l. We are talking at least 5X10 total Sod removal.

Greens where great

We have played this course maybe 40 times in the last 5 years. So today we play Black horse and I hit a tee shot straight down the middle on number 1. We drive along the cart path into the fairway to my ball in the middle of fairway. No ball. Why you ask? It’s because the groundskeepers have mowed the fairways and all the wet grass is now laying in fairway so you get to play adult kick the grass to locate your ball. The entire course was like this. Black Horse and Bayonet are some of the best courses in Monterey to play. I know some people will say I’m overreacting but to present a course like this today was plain bad and showed just how the groundskeepers feel about what they present to the public. I HOPE A GM sees this review and can address this problem. It’s a simple fix; they make vacuum equipment for golf courses. Hole 17 was the worst. Your soft spikes filled so fast that grass covered your entire size 13 shoe. I’m certain this will fall on deaf ears, but I had to be honest in my review and it’s the sad truth about two beautiful gems that should not be presented that way. Because I can tell you, I did not get a discounted rate for a sub par course. If you’re going to charge full rate at least have some pride in your course. I think the GM FAILED TODAY. They should jump in a cart and tour the outdoor office because it does not look good and reflects poorly on you.

Course Under Repair

Every Tee Box except one was under repair including several areas in the fairways. It was not disclosed and I wish I could have cancelled this round for a refund. It’s didficult to give a fair assessment when the entire course is under repair. It’s a no go back me.

Shame on The City of San Francisco

Save your money. The city of San Francisco has completely let all aspects of this course go; clover filled fairways and greens that have a fungus on every single green. Yes That’s All Eighteen. That being said, BE WARNED. The last blow for this course is the CART PATH ONLY. You will not find this information on web site for Lincoln Park nor disclosed by GolfNow. I have a feeling The City will be closing the course and making it into a City Park as I see the new Mayor spending money on something that benefits the homeless population in lieu of people who pay taxes and live or visit SF.
Last comment I have, check out the golf cart we were issued; an old cart with all four tires bald. That’s correct, bald and also a broken steering box. You are required to leave your drivers license for the key to the cart. But the views of the Golden Gate Bridge were great.

Great value

Course was still a little wet but after all the rain we have received in Southern California this past month it held up good. Greens were true and fast. This is a course we will play again. They had some detours on course and some temporary greens as well as some cart path only but the course was still very playable.

Why Why Why

Why did I waste my time? GolfNow shows a nice club house photo on the site. Must have been taken many years ago. With that being said, we checked in with no problems. The cart was almost new that was a plus, considering it did not have even a partial windshield. No1 tee box had bare spots no problem as California has a very bad drought. We make it to first green and man what a mess. It's not a green. It's a mixture of different weed grasses fighting to take over a area that was a green many years ago. Every green was like this. Putting was a joke; aim toward the hole and hope you get close. Save your cash and stay home. Fairways were dirt with very little grass. So very sad.

This course is a joke! Dead grass, weeds, snakes and who knows what else! Never water or clean it up. Just sits here and the community has to look at this mess!!!

A true Gem in the desert

I've been playing golf now for just a little over 40 years and I can say this course is so beautiful. It is cool to walk through the breezway to the club house and see all the black and white photos of past Hollywood legends and PGA pros who have walked where you are now walking. When you step onto the first tee box it hits you. Plush fairways and greens that are firm and fast. Sand that looks like it just came from Carmel. It's no wonder Walt Disney, Bob Hope, and Frank Sinatra called this place home.

Good GolfNow Value

The course is dry and ill maintained. Tumbleweeds and shrubs over grown. It's a good value if you pay less than $20 with a cart.

What a view

Course is in great shape. Fairways like carpet and greens fast and made for a hard time reading. Sand traps soft and silky smooth. The views are the best. Take a camera because there's not a bad shot to be taken.

El Tigre; Where the Sand , Lakes and Tigers meet.

Water and sand come in to play on 14 holes. Some traps are compacted dirt not sand. Fairways are green and soft. Greens were slow and a little burned out. Overall this course is a must play. Par 3, 6th hole is a hole that plays longer than it looks. Add one club to avoid going in the island lakes. Make sure you stop and see the head groundkeeper on 17th tee box area. Talk and take pictures but don't stick any body parts you want to keep inside; He bites. Cab fare from the cruise terminal was $4.00 per person. Don't get ripped off. After your round cabs are parked inside the course parking lot making it no problem to catch a cab.

Great for your short game

Yes the greens had been recently punched so they were a little hairy, just part of green maintenance. They will be great. Pace of play on this day was fantastic...just under 4 hours to play. Good place to work on your game or for newer golfers. Great value.

Course under repair but still worth it.

You replay 6 holes due to flood damage so this course is a nice discount and worth it. I played from the black tees and it was a great challenge. Down side is a lot of sensitive areas and all cart path only. We ate in the bar after our round and had the best blackened salmon ceasar salad ever. Bar manager was extremely pleasant.

Designed by Alister Mackenzie

If you know golf you should be honered to play a course designed by Mackenzie. Sharp is old and under going much need yard work. They say the greens will remain true to the original design. We golfed with a great local named Jerry. He was full of history and it was a pleasure to golf with him. There are currently some temp greens. This course will be beautiful once the greens are completed. If you're from out of state, please remember CA is going through a severe drought....very dry and hard fairways.

Poor Man's Pebble Beach

The tee boxes were nice. Unfortunately the course failed to inform that the greens were recently aerated and sanded. Not worth the GolfNow rate. Not once did the course mention the condition of the greens. I have never been at a course that did not post the fact that the greens were recently punched and sanded. All you can do is hope to get close to the hole. Had I have known, I'd of played Bayonet again or Blackhorse who made it public that the greens were recently aerated.
