Super Friendly Staff, Fun layout, Awful Conditions

All the people at the course were super friendly, helpful and accommodating. The course layout was fun with a lot of fun and different holes. The greens were in very good condition. The biggest drawback of the course is the awful overall condition of the tee boxes and fairways. MANY of the fairways, had little to no grass at all. Many of the tee boxes were in the same condition as the fairways with little to zero grass. On almost every fairway I had to move my ball to an area that had grass so that I could hit from grass and not from bare dirt. On the first hole, I had a nice drive to the middle of the fairway, and there was zero grass within 30 feet of my ball, so I had to move my ball to an area that had grass. Maybe in the summer, the conditions are better when the weather gets warmer and the grass can grow, bur for the end of April, the condition of the fairways were very disappointing.

Hidden Gem off the Beaten Path

Highland Walk golf course is part of the Georgia State Park golf courses. It is a tremendous value for the very reasonable price you pay. The course is in excellent condition. The fairways are lush and full. The greens are excellent and well maintained and very few unrepaired ball marks which is so common at many courses. The greens run true and smooth. The greens have lots of subtle slopes and undulations. The staff was friendly, helpful and all around great.

The layout is fun and challenging with lots of beautiful scenery and lots of wildlife to see. There are quite a few blind tee shots, but that is part of the fun and challenge. There are lots of elevation changes both uphill and downhill shots. The first two holes lull you into thinking you will have an easy day and shoot a great score with their shortness and easiness. Hole three hits back in a big way being a long, VERY uphill hole. Excellent course to play for all skill levels.

Great course overall. It is a hidden gem and I highly recommend taking the drive to play Highland Walk golf course.

Challenging and Fun Course

Mountain View is a very good course that plays long with lots of challenges. It is a great and challenging course (has hosted many PGA tour stops during the 1990s) that has seen better days.
The greens were very playable but not great. The greens were a little shaggy and slow, due to the rain over the past few days. Most greens are very small, elevated and heavily bunkered which presents a challenge. Most of the greenside bunkers are large, very deep, and challenging. The fairways were lush and firm but with a few bare spots. Bunkers were crusty and had not been raked recently due to the rain and weather the past few days. Mountain View is a good, challenging course but not in the best condition vs. when I played last year.
The staff, as always, was very friendly. Do yourself a favor and go to Callaway Gardens for the weekend and play both courses. You will enjoy them both Mountain View course is longer and more difficult than Lake View course.

Awesome course with beautiful views

Right from check in the staff was great. There is always someone to come to your car once you have parked to pick up your bag and take you to the pro shop and the putting, chipping greens and driving range. The worst part is that the starter will not give you a key to your cart until it is your time to head to the first tee. I felt like a little child who could not be trusted with anything until my parent told me “ok”. That is how the started acted in regards to giving you a key to your cart to start your round. However, I love the fact that with your greens fee, food (hot dogs, sandwiches and snacks) and drinks (soda, bottled water, several types of juices) and range balls all are included at no additional cost. The practice area is great. I wish you did not have to hit of matts, but that is what it is.

The golf course is awesome with the great majority of the holes routed right along the shores of beautiful Lake Lanier. The water in the lake is amazingly clear. You have tons of beautiful views throughout the entire course and the was lots of wild life (deer, birds, and other animals). The course is challenging with many forced carries over water (2, 3, 6, 12, 13, 14, 15). The fairways are in excellent condition. The greens are average to slow as far as speed. The only negative I have is that several tee boxes are beaten up and lacking grass (2 and 5 especially). Overall, I love Lanier Islands Legacy Golf Course. It is one of my favorites in all of Georgia. I highly recommend you take the opportunity to play.

Always in Excellent Condition and Very Enjoyable

I have played all the Chicopee Woods (all three 9 hole courses) many times. I always leave asking myself why I do not play there more often. The courses are always kept in great shape.

The practice facility is top notch and everything you could want from a practice area.

The tee boxes on a few of the par three holes were pretty beaten up, but that is understandable for the amount play the course gets. The starter and course do a great job of utilizing all three 9-hole courses to spread out play as much as possible. Chicopee Woods is always a very good value. Great courses and excellent conditions.

I would say this course is one of the best values for your money in the area.

Fun course in excellent condition

This was my first time playing Lost Key golf club. We took an afternoon away from the beaches and went and played golf. I am happy we decided to go play golf.
The price was high for the quality of the course, but overall it was worth the spend. The practice area was
great and you got some range balls included in the greens fee price. The starter was friendly and very helpful. The greens at Lost Key are awesome.
The greens are smooth, quick and fun to putt with lots of humps and undulations.
Fairways are kept up nice, but the star of the course are the greens.
The course is challenging, but rewarding. There are several holes with forced carries off the tee box and the design of the fairways is deceptive for first time players and you have more room in the fairways than it appears from many of the tee boxes.
Take the time to go play Lost Key golf club. You will not regret it.

Challenging course in very good condition

Played the River Course today. I have played the River several times and each time a leave the course I always say to myself, that was a lot of fun. I should come here and play more often. The course is in great condition. The rough was very manageable. The prior times I have played, the rough seemed to be a lot more penal, thick and much longer. The fairways are always wide and inviting. The greens are very large and just because you are on the green in regulation, does not guarantee a two putt and a par. The Greens are very large with lots of hills, and undulations which adds to the fun as well as the challenge. ALL the greens are raised so make sure to take one extra club on all your approach shots. The service, as always, was very good at the pro shop and all over the course. The practice facilities are top notch with everything you need to hone and sharpen your game.

There's no stop for a drink at the turn, and just a few water coolers on the course. Two of the coolers were out of water, so I was ready for a drink. It is best and advisable to bring your own Gatorade or water just to make sure you keep hydrated on the hot, humid summer days in Alabama.

Fun and Challenging course in very good condition

This was my first time playing the Highlands course at Hampton Cove. A few of the fairways were a little thin in areas but very playable. Lots of unfilled divots in the fairways. The course is overall, in great condition, and I had a great time. The course has tons of bunkers. The sand in the bunkers is a soft, powdery sand. The bunkers are a true “penalty” if you get in them. The greens were nice (smooth and quick) with lots of humps and bumps and undulations. The course plays long as all the greens are elevated (as are most Robert Trent Jones courses). Tip - play an extra club into each hole that looks flat, play two extra for anything that looks uphill. There are several holes which you really need to pay attention to you tee shot (or you will be in a hazard (water, bunker, etc.)). As do most Robert Trent Jones courses, the fairways all slope towards to the water, if there is water on the hole.
The fairways are generous and wide. The rough is fair and allows you to hit out and have a fair shot at reaching the green. This is a very fun and fair course to play. I would definitely play this course again. I defiantly recommend the Highlands course and if I am in the area again, I will definitely plan to play again.

Great Course in Fantastic Condition - Highly Recommended

I played The Schoolmaster Course at The Shoals. This was my first time playing the course. This course offers a variety of different holes with lots of elevation changes. I seemed as every approach shot to the greens were up hill as all the greens are elevated. Like all Robert Trent Jones courses, there are lots of bunkers and penalty areas. The course plays long due to all the elevated greens. Make sure to take one more club than you normally would hit to all of the elevated greens. The course was in fantastic condition. The fairways were lush, the greens were firm and fast with lots of slopes and undulations. The course has a great practice area with chipping area, practice bunkers, etc.

The restaurant / bar is very good, but eat outside if you can, you have a FANTASTIC view of the lake and the surrounding area. The views from the porch and terrace at the restaurant are fantastic. The entire staff was very friendly and helpful. We saw the ranger/marshal at least 4 times throughout the round which really helped keep up the pace of play. I highly recommend the The Schoolmaster Course at The Shoals. I will definitely be back to play again when I am in the area.

Awesome Course with Fantastic Views - Great Value

This course is well off the beaten path but well worth the drive. It has several holes which play right along the Savannah River with is part of lake Russell with great views. The course is in great condition and you can tell that the maintenance crew does a great job with maintaining and taking care of the course.

For me, the only drawback is that the grill is ALWAYS understaffed. The person working at the grill went home at 2:00 pm. Who closes their grill at 2:00 pm on a weekend? The only thing we were able to get to eat was candy bars and chips which were sitting on a rack. That is ridiculious!!!

The course overall and the greens are great and some of the best in Georgia . A must play course, especially for the value you get with the very fair and reasonable price. I love playing Arrowhead Pointe when I can. Well worth the two hour drive for me to get there.

Great Course and facilities. A little pricy, but worth the money.

This is the second time I have played this course. The course offers a variety of fun and different holes with beautiful views of the area. The staff was very friendly both inside the clubhouse and outside as well. The course offers 5 sets of tees for all abilities and plays long. The greens were in great condition and rolled fast and true with lots of undulations and several uphill holes with false fronts. Holes # 9 and 18 are beautiful with he lake, waterfalls and bridges. The practice facilities are top notch. I would highly recommend this course, along with staying at the Renaissance hotel onsite. Both the course and the hotel are very nice and worth the money, even though they are a little bit pricy.

Very Challenging but extremely nice and fun course

This was my first time playing The Judge course.
The course is in fantastic condition. Greens are extremely smooth and fast. Great practice area everything you need to practice and improve your game. . Lots of water (course is along the banks of the Alabama River), lots of bunkering and tons of hidden challenges with most of the fairways sloping towards water or marsh areas. A true test. But, oh so fun and challenging. Very pretty course with awesome scenery. The views from the tee boxes of hole #1 are spectacular.

Challenging but Fun and Fair

This was my first time playing Highland Oaks. I was in Dothan for business and decided to go play the RTJ golf course in Dothan.

The layout was very fun. The course is in excellent condition. They have a very nice practice area, as do all the RTJ courses. The greens were in excellent condition. The only drawback was a few of the tee boxes were torn up with lots of divots.

I would definitely recommend the Highland Oaks courses.

Awesome Course with Spectacular Views

Their new policy where you can’t unload your golf bag by the carts but you have to carry your bag from your car (there is not bag stand to unload your bag near the pro shop) AND you have to wait until your tee-time in order to get the cart key is ridiculous. I have NEVER been to a course that treats the carts like they do. The starter managing the carts acted as the CIA inspector general and thought everyone was a criminal if they even asked for a cart key in order just to pull the cart up by the starter stand so that you do not have to walk all over the place in order to get ice, go to the range, etc. The new cart policy or lack of reasonable policy puts a sour taste in people’s mouths even before they get to go play one of the best and most picturesque golf courses in all of Georgia. It was 97 degrees and the course wants everyone to lug their bags around and walk all over the place just and will not permit you to have a cart key until the exact time for you to head to the first tee.
One of my favorite things about the course is that it is like an all inclusive resort. The greens fee you pay comes with: range balls, complementary sodas, hot dogs, snacks, bottled water and a great practice area. Each cart has a cooler and plenty of ice which makes for an great day on a great course. Too bad the cart policy is so ridiculous and the starter is such a dictator about giving out a cart key.
As far as the facilities and the golf course go, Legacy on Lanier is one of the best courses in all of Georgia. The conditions are fantastic. The course has some of the most beautiful views of Lake Lanier. Course layout is fantastic with a few very challenging holes. I highly recommend the course over any course in the area.

Thank you for your kid comments on the golf course.
We are sorry that the golf cart operational policy was not what you expected. Due to the current health crisis we assign each group their golf carts and have the group name on the front. We do understand it is inconvenient to have to walk with large bags though. The process is under review and we thank you for your candid input and comments.

Amazing Conditions, but Slow Greens

This was only the second time I have played The Chimneys. Last time I played was several years ago and I don’t remember the course conditions being so nice as they were today. The Tees, fairways and rough are in fantastic condition. I have played MANY, MANY more upscale, high dollar courses which did not have tee boxes, fairways and rough as nice. The quality of the conditions and the variety of holes make this a great value ($34).
The only drawback for me is that the greens were extremely slow. It looked as if the greens had not been cut in several days. They were shaggy and very slow. Other than the speed of the greens, I would say this is a fun, and awesome course to play with lots of variety. I would play much more often if I lived closer.
The stone work around the course, especially on the front nine, is beautiful. Lots of large rocks and stone work that make the hole layouts very pretty and appealing.
I highly recommend playing here.

Great Conditions, Challenging Layout

This was my first time playing Golden Bear. I will definitely be back to play again. Bryan, the bag drop attendant was awesome, very helpful, friendly and very accommodating.

The course is typical Nicklaus designed courses with tons of challenging bunkers along with lots of water hazards. The layout features a challenge for every skill level. It demands attention to detail and the ability for some shot-shaping. There are LOTS of trees that also are challenging for tee shots as well as many strategically placed trees which guard the green complexes. In order to score well, you must be able to shape shots both draw and fade. Perfectly placed trees await to snag a wayward drive or approach shot. There are a few fairways as well as tee boxes which are sparse and little grass, but overall, the conditions were exceptional.

I highly recommend this course to anyone.

Great Course - Staff Not Too Helpful

I have Played CCHH many times and I always like the course layout, the conditions and the challenge it presents.
Saturday afternoon tee time for $97 (with $7.for unlimited range balls). I love the course, but it is not a $100 course. It is definitely a $60 - $75 dollar course, but not a $100 course. Especially when it was 101 degree heat index and the course will not let you use a cooler for ice and water. We asked to have a cooler for ice and we were told due to Covid they do not do coolers. The five other courses we have played this week all gave and allowed coolers with ice. However, at CCHH there were rakes at every bunker as well as sand bottles on every cart. What about those for Covid?. Why can you not do coolers with ice if you are asking everyone to use rakes that others have used as well as use sand bottles on the carts which have not been sanitized which others also use? Does not make sense at all. How can you not give a cooler with ice when the heat index is 101 degrees?
On the positive side, I love the course layout and the course conditions are fantastic. The range and practice area are great. The greens were in great condition (smooth, quick and fun), as was the rest of the course from tee two green. A great variety of holes along with great scenery. The rough is very thick and long. If you are in the rough, it is a real challenge to get on the green in regulation (as it should be). I would encourage you to take the time to play, but make sure to take your own cooler with ice, especially during the summer when it is hot and humid!!!

Fun Course in Good Condition

This was my first time playing the course.

The course is challenging, but fair and has lots of variety and very fun holes. Good shots were rewarded and bad shots were penalized. The greens were quick and challenging. The worst part of the course were the tons of non-repaired ball marks all over the greens. On several greens I had to repair three of four non-repaired ball marks which were in or close to my line to the hole. A few of the greens had so many non-repaired ball marks it looked as if a scatter grenade had been dropped on the putting surface. I understand that the greens are bent grass and in order to keep bent grass alive and lush in the summertime, they have to be kept moist which makes for a surface which leaves a lot of ball marks, but the number of non-repaired ball marks was simply astounding to me. There is a great and fun course, but those who play the course do not have the courtesy, time, care or whatever reason to repair their ball marks when their golf balls land on the greens.

Other than the non-repaired ball marks, the course is in great condition. The bunkers were well maintained and in nice condition. I really like the course and I plan to return to play again in order to play such a fun and challenging course. Hopefully the ball marks on the greens will not be a distraction next time.

Fun, Challenging and Great Condition

The layout was awesome and very fun. The greens and overall course conditions were the best I have seen at Bears Best in a couple years. The management has been working to continually improve and it really shows. Greens are very nice and consistent. My biggest complaint in prior years was that all the greens had TONS on non-repaired ball marks. That has been fixed and the greens were rolling quick, true and smooth. Kudos to the maintenance crews and greens keepers.

The course has everything you could want as far as golf with very nice driving range, chipping and short game area, two practice putting greens and nice, well-stocked pro shop. Pricey course in a very fancy neighborhood. The biggest houses I think I’ve ever seen on a course.

The carts have GPS but also have speakers that and play satellite radio stations or can connect to your Bluetooth which was very enjoyable. The carts also have a section with “tips” you can reference that has non other that Greg Norman giving you tips on your game if you need it.

The course is very challenging but forgiving. There are lots of elevation changes. If you haven't been in a while or have not tried Bear's Best, I highly recommend you do so. You will not be disappointed.
