About
As a golf and travel writer, I spend more than a third of the year on the road playing and reviewing golf courses all over the world. I am on a "quest" to play the Top 100 courses of the World (I have already played about 60 of them, including all top 10). I always play at a brisk pace and I love playing two rounds on one day.

CordeValle Golf Club
Played On 04/06/2015One of the best public courses in California!
It's no coincidence this course has hosted the PGA Tour a number of times and will host the US Women's Open in 2016. Great resort and the course was in immaculate condition, just a treat to play. I teed off first thing in the morning walking with a caddie and had a wonderful experience. Hope I get to play the course again!
SilverRock Resort
Played On 04/01/2015A must play in the Palm Springs area
This former PGA Tour host course is fun to play. There are no homes on the course (a rarity in the area) and the scenic mountain views never get old. The course has numerous bunkers that can quickly wreck your score. This is definitely a "must play" course which is among the best public courses in the area.
The Golf Club At Creighton Farms
Played On 06/03/2014A private Jack Nicklaus masterpiece
A "Jack Nicklaus Signature Course" that boasts wide and rolling fairways and that is very challenging. A great variety of holes. Many bunkers and a number of wetlands can wreck havoc on your scorecard. A great overall experience with state-of-the art facilities. Just a treat to play.
May River Golf Club At Palmetto Bluff
Played On 04/16/2014A low-country gem
This Jack Nicklaus Signature Course is part of the Palmetto Bluff Resort. The course is secluded, very scenic and was designed to be easily walkable. I teed off at 8.30 am with a caddie and played in 3 hours. The course was in immaculate shape and boasts a number of interesting holes. The back nine consists of 3 par 3s, 3 par 4s and 3 par 5s.
Dunes at Monterey Peninsula Country Club
Played On 01/20/2014About as good as it gets
Monterey is mostly famous for Pebble Beach, Cypress Point and Spyglass Hill. However, with two fabulous 18-hole layouts, MPCC is as good as any golf club I know. The Shore Course is annual host of the AT&T and became an instant favorite. It was in immaculate shape when I played it and with many oceanfront holes and views to die for, this course can hold its own against neighbors Pebble and Cypress. Be sure to play it if you ever get the chance!
Penati Golf Resort - Heritage Course
Played On 10/08/2013Arguably the best golf resort in all of Eastern Europe
Penati Resort offers two diverse 18-hole courses at which is arguably the best Resort in all of Eastern Europe. The Heritage Course was opened in August 2013 and I played it in October. When I played it, you could tell the course was brand new and the course conditioning wasn't perfect on a few of the holes. However, once the course will be grown in there's not doubt in my mind it will be phenomenal. Architect Jonathan Davison created an Inland links that will Play firm and fast. The layout is characterized by a few Elevation changes, lakes that come into Play and a couple of blind shots. Overall a very diverse design that is a lot of fun to Play.
Penati Golf Resort - Legend Course
Played On 10/08/2013Eastern Europe's newest "must play"
This fairly new Nicklaus Design is arguably one of the best courses in all of Eastern Europe. "Signature hole" is number 15, a par 6 that is Close to 800 Yards Long. The beautiful course was laid out over rolling Terrain that boasts gentle Elevation changes. The Greens are huge and ondulated and they have many different tiers which makes putting a real challenge.
Galloway National Golf Club
Played On 09/14/2013A private Fazio masterpiece that is a "hidden gem"
Galloway National Golf Club is regularly ranked among the best courses in the country. World renowned architect Tom Fazio, meticulously crafted Galloway National’s 7,000 yards out of a 200 acre tract of heavily wooded, gently sloping bayside property.
Fazio made the course perfectly walk able by placing tees close to the greens, there are only four holes which are not very close to one another. The club has excellent caddies which additionally enhance the walking experience. Add breathtaking vistas of the bay and Atlantic City and you have a "perfect walk in the park". Everyone having a chance to play at this exclusive private club should consider themselves lucky.
East at Broadmoor Golf Club
Played On 09/02/2013My favorite mountain course!
The "East Course" is generally considered to be one of the best public-access courses in the country.
There aren't many resorts that have a golf course which has hosted so many USGA championships, with the U.S. Women's Open 2011 being the most recent one. That is part of the experience when you play golf at the "East Course". When visiting The Broadmoor Golf Club, you literally "walk in the footsteps of legends"as the course has hosted many USGA championships! The "East Course" consists of 9 holes that were designed by Donald Ross and 9 holes that were designed by the late Robert Trent Jones (holes 8 through 15). I love the ondulated greens that always putt fast and true. The "East Course" is certainly my favorite mountain course (and one of my all-time favorites) and playing there on a sunny Rocky Mountain Day is always a treat.
West at Broadmoor Golf Club
Played On 09/01/2013A classic masterpiece at a legendary resort
The "West Course" sits at a higher elevation than the "East Course", plays tighter off the tee and has more tree-lined holes and more doglegs. It plays a little easier than the "big brother" but it is a fine course in his own right. If you stay at The Broadmoor, be sure to play all three courses.
Mountain at Broadmoor Golf Club
Played On 09/01/2013A modern course at a classic retreat
The Mountain Course was redesigned by Nicklaus Design a few years ago. With a mind boggling 7,600+ Yards off the back tees, this course offers a stern challenge. I love the location on the mountain where breathtaking vistas abound and you can see different kind of wildlife. The course looks and plays drastically different from the two other Resort courses [East and West].
Woodlands at Sunriver Resort
Played On 06/05/2013A locals' favorite at Sunriver Resort
This Robert Trent Jones II layout is a locals' favorite. Jones took adavantage of the natural surrounding which include mountain views, slight Elevation changes and countless trees. If you hit it wayward off of the tee on this course you will be in the woods all day long. Driving it straight is necessary to score well on this track.
Tetherow Golf Club
Played On 06/04/2013David McLay Kidd's High-Desert masterpiece
This course is unlike any other course in Central Oregon. David McLay Kidd created an all-fescue linkslike design that is extremly challenging, even though it has been softened up a little bit. The brownish look even gives the track a different visual appeal that can be seen at first glance. Due to the bumps, craters and hollows and the firm ground the ball can take unexpected bounces. The layout is sort of love-hate but I always enjoy tackling this unique design when I visit Bend.
Woodlands at Sunriver Resort
Played On 06/04/2013A Sunriver classic next to the main lodge
This course, located right next to the main lodge, is a locals' favorite. The course is flat and very playable. However, it is challenging from the back tees - the course hosted the CPC in 2013 and the Women's Public Links in 2002. The par 71 layout has three par 5s, bunkers and a few lakes come into play and punish inaccurate shots. I have played this course numerous times and it's a "must play" for me whenever I visit Sunriver.
Brasada Canyons Golf Course
Played On 06/02/2013A fun ride through the High Desert
This spectacular layout boasts a number of downhill tee shots and amazing views of the surrounding mountains as well as the high desert. The layout meanders up and down and through a number of canyons. The course is really a lot of fun to play.
Woodlands at Sunriver Resort
Played On 06/01/2013A nice par 3 course
A perfect course to practice your short game or get in a quick 9 holes. A nice layout that is very playable, even for beginners or less skilled Golfers.
Crosswater at Sunriver Resort
Played On 06/01/2013The original High Desert masterpiece
This spectacular course basically put Central Oregon on the golf map. The course has hosted many big events icluding a couple of CPCs and a "Shell's Wonderful World of Golf". Crosswater is regularly ranked among the best public-access courses in the country. Bob Cupp created a very challenging course that features water hazards on most of the holes.
