Trilogy Golf Club at Vistancia
Played On 05/26/2016Course needs a little maore water.
I have only played this course a few times in the past. This was by far the driest that I have ever seen the course. The greens were hard and extremely fast. Fairways were mowed very short (extremely tight lies). Several brown/dead spots in some of the fairways. Excellent course layout/design. Extremely challenging from the back tees. High handicappers will want to play one of the forward tee boxes.
Legend at Arrowhead, The
Played On 05/15/2016Always a fun and challenging course to play
I usually enjoy playing the Legends at Arrowhead. The course was in very good condition. The greens were moderately fast on the day that I played. The pace of play was very good. The staff was friendly (which hasn't always been the case on some of my past visits to this course).
Cave Creek Golf Course
Played On 12/07/2015Another disappointing encounter with the Pro Shop Staff
While I have played the course numerous times over the years, I fear that today will be the last time. I am extremely disappointed with the Customer Service provided by the Pro Shop Staff. First, they need to get their heads out from their tablets and/or smart phones and pay attention to what they are being paid to do. They appeared to be clueless on how to pair groups (sending out various groups of 1, 2, 3, 4 or 5 players at a time). I got the feeling that the Men's Club members actually ran the show pretty much doing whatever they felt like. It has been sad to watch the decline of this once good golf course in recent years.
West at Rancho Canada Golf Club
Played On 10/03/2014Great value in the Carmel/Monterey area
I played the East course. The round took just over 3 hours on a Friday morning. The greens were slower than I remembered. My only real complaint about the course condition was the sand traps. All of the traps were wet with hard/compacted sand when I played. Interesting layout. I will definitely play one of the courses at Rancho Canada on my next trip to Carmel.
Avila Beach Golf Resort
Played On 09/30/2014Tough layout for the first time that you play the course
The course was not very long, but it had several interesting holes. I had to rely on advice from the players that I was paired with who knew the course. Many holes where you would greatly benefit from local knowledge. Greens were fast, but could have been in better shape. Fairways were suffering from the draught that has plagued the area. Too many tee boxes were unlevel and need to be rebuilt. No beverage cart on the course the day that I played,
Cave Creek Golf Course
Played On 08/02/2014Greens were in good shape for the summer time
Because of all of the rain that the course had received, the greens were very slow, but they were smooth. The greens held approach shots extremely well. The beverage cart made it around several times during our 3 hour round (18 holes in just over 3 hours).
Faldo at Wildfire Golf Club at Desert Ridge Resort
Played On 07/20/2014One of my favorite courses in the Valley.
Fun and challenging course to play. It was in great summer time condition for Phoenix. Plenty of sand traps to avoid.
The Phoenician Golf Club
Played On 07/12/2014Great conditions for the summer in Phoenix
The best summer time greens that I have played this year. Always a fun course to play.
Stonecreek Golf Club
Played On 07/04/2014Greens still recovering from being aerated more than a month ago.
The greens were very disappointing. I expected that they would have recovered from being aerated more than a month ago. Greens were slow and very bumpy. Pro Shop/Starter appeared to have trouble assigning groups to the first tee. Very disorganized! Too many dry/hard spots in the fairways and around the greens. I will wait a while before playing there again.
Arizona Biltmore Golf Club - Estates Course
Played On 06/28/2014Extremely slow/bumpy greens.
I expected the greens to be in better condition when I played (several weeks after being aerated). Course needs some TLC to return to it's normal condition.
The Legacy Golf Club
Played On 06/21/2014Always a pleasure to play The Legacy
I always look forward to a round of golf at The Legacy. Course was in good condition for this time of year. We played before they aerated their greens. Challenging course that is always fun to play. Many elevated greens that you must carry the ball on to.
Camelback Golf Club - Padre Course
Played On 06/14/2014Prepare for a 5 hour round.
Very slow pace of play on the day that I played. We never did see a ranger on the course trying to speed things up. Usually one of my favorite courses in the Valley, but I frequently encounter rude service from the Starter and Attendants. The greens were slower than I remember, but not bad for this time of year in the Valley.
Wigwam Resort - Blue Course
Played On 08/24/2013Lush fairways and very good sand traps.
The Blue (Patriot) course is getting plenty of water. The fairways were the best that I have seen on a Phoenix area course this summer. I was surprised at how well maintained the sand traps were. Again, they are the best that I have seen this summer. The greens were hard, but rolled very true. Without a doubt, this was the best maintained course I have played in quite a while. 18 holes in just under 3 hours. The only complaint was that we only saw the beverage cart once all day.
Apache Wells Country Club
Played On 08/03/20132-1/2 hour round of play - No waiting.
We teed off just before 9:30 AM and were done by 11:45 AM. Extremely fast round of golf (which was great on a hot and humid day). Fairways in very good condition. The greens were very slow, but rolled true. We saw the beverage cart 3 times. It was an enjoyable round on a fairly flat and easy course.
Lookout Mountain Golf Club
Played On 07/20/2013Fun course, but plan for a 5+ hour round
I always enjoy the golf course, but we were squeezed in between a shotgun start tournament and had a 5+ hour round of golf. We had a group of rude drunks behind us who were growing impatient with the pace of play for the day. We were hit into more than once, even while we waited for the group ahead of us to clear the green. The rangers were no where to be found, and when we did complain to one, his response was talk to the starter. The tournament needed to be managed better to ensure a reasonable pace of play. The course itself was in far better condition than most that I have played this summer. Other than some recent storm damage, the fairways were in pretty good shape. The greens were a little bumpy, but they were the fastest greens that I have seen anywhere in the Valley this summer.
Grand Canyon University Golf Course
Played On 07/06/2013Some of the better greens in the Valley this time of year.
I have played several of the resort courses in the last couple of months and I have to say that these greens at Maryvale were far better than any of the high dollar courses that I have played. I was nice to actually have grass under your ball in the fairway. The other benefit to Maryvale was the number of mature trees that provide shade in the summer months.
Raven Golf Club - Phoenix
Played On 06/22/2013Extremely challenging course.
The greens were terrible. It will probably be 2-3 weeks before they are playable again. I have played this course several times and never seen the greens in such poor condition.
Arizona Biltmore Golf Club - Estates Course
Played On 06/15/2013A Valley favorite.
Old course with mature trees. Always a pleasure to play the Adobe Course. Great value during the summer months in Phoenix.
Arizona Grand Resort
Played On 06/08/2013Challenging desert style course. Target golf.
Several blind shots. Not all par 4's should be played with the driver. You must hit the fairways.
Camelback Golf Club - Padre Course
Played On 06/01/2013Great old course in the Phoenix Area. Always well maintained.
Another one of my favorite courses in the Valley. I always expect the course to be in great condition. Some of the best maintained sand traps in the Valley.
