Mission Hills - Gary Player Course
Played On 12/19/2017Disappointing Course
We heard so much about Mission Hills courses so it was a surprise to find the Gary Player course is actually located some distance away from its sister Pete Dye course. Unfortunately, it was cart path only on the day we played which was painfully slow. The cart path is also unnecessarily twisty and winding and combining with a really heavy steering cart, it was really cumbersome to manoeuvre.
They also laid sand on the green that day, making it totally inconsistent which is really frustrating. The pro shop staff did not have the courtesy to warn us about this. The front nine layout was almost too easy while the back nine demands good shot making and course managements. Not having a GPS on the cart making this quite difficult as you'll be guessing the distance to many hazards. The bunkers are also filled with clayey sands which is almost as hard as concrete. I never felt so relieved seeing the hole 18 sign.
Finally, the pro shops and "clubhouse" are actually portables so don't waste your time after the round for a drink.
